There’s no such thing as a “healthy” ship.

Ships aren’t food, they’re not exercise, they’re not even a nonfiction book or a classic novel. A steady diet of LGBT+ ships with no age or power gap won’t make you emotionally or mentally any healthier. It won’t teach you about how actual relationships work and it won’t prevent you from getting into an unhealthy relationship.

Unhealthy ships won’t ruin you. They won’t corrupt you, they won’t destroy your understanding of actual healthy relationships or erode your morality.

Your fictional diet isn’t your actual diet. There’s no organic vegan gluten-free ship that will fix a single goddamn thing.

Relax. Enjoy yourself. Read whatever fiction fascinates you, tantalizes you, engages you. The content doesn’t matter much for your health, but the joy it brings you might.

When you’re in a small fandom that doesn’t have much fanfiction written for it but when you write fanfic for it hardly anyone comments or even leaves kudos despite the hits on the fic making it clear people are have read it. That’s not the way to motivate people to continue to make content

Yeah. I’m starting to get writting as no one’s going to tell the stories I am(Or follow up on them) so I just figured to do it myself if there’s none for that fandom or that pairing. Or just odd ideas.

Seeing the jump in comments/kudos for something smaller vs something more popular or based around ‘meme of the month’ makes me want to shelf my own ideas and go for what’s popular right then.

When ever there’s someone trying to promote fandoms into critically thinking about the media they’re consuming it’s always someone who either a) Doesn’t do any of that and just blindly follows what other misinformed fan tells them or b) Overanalyze everything to high hell trying to find something to be offended by because they can’t comprehend the idea that people just like shit and it’s none of their damn business why that is.

When “woke” people give their negative “unpopular” opinion that literally nobody asked for an “overrated” character/ship/story they don’t like and they think they’re being all “look at me I don’t have bad taste unlike those fans who aren’t like me.” Bonus points if they put the negative “unpopular” opinion in the pro or general fandom tags where fans who want a good time can see it.

The Rise of Kylo Ren

Okay so, just read the last issue of The Rise of Kylo Ren and here is everything we have learned from this comic:

1. Ben did not destroy Luke’s temple. Palpatine did, and somehow he gaslighted Ben into thinking he was responsible.

2. Ben thought he killed Luke but it was in self-defense, but he still feels enormously guilty about it.

3. Ben did not kill ANY of Luke’s other students that night. He was instead relentlessly hunted by a small group of them across the galaxy, including one (Voe) who had a particularly large chip on her shoulder wrt to Ben and feeling inadequate in comparison to his Force-abilities.

4. Ben wanted to go home to Leia but felt he couldn’t because he didn’t think she would believe him.

5. Snoke was just casually in his head having full-on conversations with him when he was at least 11 or 12 years old, feeding him lies about his family and how they didn’t really give a shit about him.

6. Ben killed one of the Jedi students hunting him by accident.

7. He turns to the Knights of Ren because he literally feels like he doesn’t belong anywhere else.

8. He openly acknowledges that even Snoke only cares about his legacy and not himself as a person.

9. HE DOES NOT WANT TO KILL ANYONE. Even after he joins the KoR, he goes out of his way to avoid killing if possible… until it’s no longer possible.

10. He did not “fall to” or “choose” the dark side – he was gaslit and pushed into it. Treat someone like a monster long enough, they will start to believe it.

11. Ben doesn’t think he’s “special”. He just wants to be treated like a normal fucking person.

12. The first person that Ben killed on purpose was Ren, the leader/founder of the Knights of Ren, thereby facilitating his fall to the dark.

13. Leia felt his fall…

14. … AND SO DID LITTLE BABY REY

15. Ben finally killed Voe after he killed Ren.

16. Ben’s preferred mode of drawing his saber was from over his shoulder, like at the end of TROS.

17. He bled his kyber crystal while shirtless, and he squeezed it so hard that it cracked.

18. He never did anything wrong, ever, in his life, and they still let him die.

           When you befriend someone and have a great time talking and gushing about fandom stuff, and then that person suddenly cuts you off without a goodbye or an explanation.

Do antis realize that AO3 was censored because of homophobia? It wasn't because of "immoral fanfiction", it was because of LGBT content. This isn't a fucking win

So I have read several people complaining that they can't be expected to know the "unwritten rules" of fandom. So here's what I wish people knew:

Fanfiction is fiction.

Fictional people are not real.

Fictional people do not have rights.

Fictional people cannot be abused.

Reading or writing about something does not mean the desire to do or support it in the real world.

If I find art upsetting/triggering/disgusting/outraging/unpleasant/squicky/distressing/offensive, it is on me not to read it, not the creators and hosts to remove it.

Curate your own experience. The back buttons exist for a reason.

If you don't trust yourself to do that, get someone you trust to do it for you.

Fandom is an adult space. Adults create and own and host fandom spaces. If minors want to participate, then the onus is on them and their parents/guardians/trusted adults to ensure they participate appropriately, not on strange adults to stop being adults.

You often don't know the assault status or mental health status or neurotype or race or nationality or religion or gender or sexuality or age of a creator or consumer, and they do not have to disclose to you to justify their fantasy.

AO3 is not a safe space. It is not intended to be a safe space. Proceed accordingly.

Just because you don't like something or find it offensive doesn't mean it is a "problem" that "has to be dealt with".

Most characters in anime are not white.

There is no onus on you to reblog or share anything.

Everyone makes mistakes in fandom and is less than their best self sometimes.

Persistent pseudonyms encourage long term relationships.

Ship wars are stupid.

Someone else enjoying things does not impact on your own enjoyment of other things.

Tagging and warning is a courtesy, not a requirement. Assume any fic might contain untagged content.

Rating is an imprecise art, not a science.

Don't hassle IP creators.

Most people who are in fandom are hoping to make connections based on a shared passion.

Trying to profit from transformative fanworks puts us all at risk.

No one is obligated to share your head canon or fanon.

Being kind rarely fails to pay off.

It is okay to block and remove people who make your experience unpleasant. You don't have to placate them. (Learn from my mistakes).

Britpicking is a good thing.

You don't have to justify why you like a canon/pairing/trope/kink. Sometimes navel gazing is fun, but you don't have an obligation to explain yourself, especially to strangers. I share the overwhelming desire to refute an unfair accusation, but the people accusing you are rarely doing so in good faith, so you're batting a losing wicket.

I'm not your Mum. (Well, okay, a very few of you can call me Mum or Mom, but if you are one of them you already know who you are ❤️)

If you aren't mature enough to take responsibility for your online experiences, you aren't mature enough to be in fandom spaces.

It’s nice you have all those ideas, and have put lots of work into them, but it doesn’t mean you suddenly own them and get to call yourself the ‘creator/captain/owner/leader etc of *insert ship/character*’. Ships/characters are for everyone, whether they have 1 idea for them or 100. Some people need to learn how to share.

When there’s a piece of media that it most definitely not for children, probably not even for anyone under 18, minors find it, and most of them enjoy it, no problem there, but you know that with today’s fandom policing it’s only matter of time before some random fucko starts complaining about the “problematic” aspects of this very-much-made-for-adults media.

Minors that do problematic things on tumblr and then proceed to cry victim when older people call them out on their behavior because “I’m a minor and you’re bullying me!!!”

in my fandom, there's been this huge split between antis and fans of the main villain, who is a killer. the villain has been a big comfort and fave ever since he happened, but now i'm afraid of harassment. (i won't stop yelling abt him tho) there's dni banners everywhere saying dni if you like the villain, even on pics of him bc even antis draw him lots. an anti even said that trans people shouldn't hc him as trans bc it's bad and its made me feel like a bad trans person bc i project onto him...

Gosh I’m so sick of fandom police. Firstly, “dni if you enjoy this character” is so freakin childish. Reminds me of school children alienating a classmate like “you can’t play with us because you like (character).” I’m sure some people have a genuine discomfort with certain characters, but I doubt that’s the case for every single person like that there. And I also hate when they say you can’t headcanon a villain character as lgbt+ too… most people who headcanon characters like that are lgbt+ themself.

Sorry you’re having to deal with such a frustrating fandom >.< I’m glad you’re continuing to yell about your fave though haha
