What do you mean they're teaching kids a reading method that's tailored to produce this exact error?

I'm coming back to this and I want to try to take a stab at one of the Cues, the "look for context" because.... well that's what I was taught. I was also taught phonics(little cartoon characters like Licky Lick) but I was also taught to look for context. Even called them little context clues.

However there seems to be a break down in doing that these days from what I read. It seems instead of trying to glean context and understanding of what a word mean, these days it's being taught to look for context and what word you can REPLACE with.

Take what I just wrote. Read it again. I'm sure there's a word in there that's odd. Glean. 'Glēn .

Now how I was taught I would use the understanding of the sentence to try to understand what Glean means, which in this case is well, understand. Know. Gather/collect info. Piece together. Find out. But instead of doing that, these days it would be "What can we replace Glean with". Which isn't the way to go about it, more so if you replace it with something close but not contextually correct like Gleem(to shine).

The best part of this is that before the world cup you had a lot of people saying shit like "omg you guys are going to hate it here it's so bad you all will finally see how horrible and ugly this country is!" And then when people came it was literally the exact opposite. Lol

The "experts" knew it would be a failure because we didn't build any infrastructure. No stadiums. No training facilities. Nothing.

The Spanish; y'know the winners? They trained at a high school (private) in Chattanooga, TN. The facilities were better than they have at home. The city of Chattanooga also showed up with signs and a police escort as they came and went to their various games.

The stadiums? We have extras that we never used. We could host a SECOND world Cup (give us a minute to install grass) and not re-use a single stadium. And those aren't even our biggest stadiums! 8 of the 10 largest stadiums on the planet are on COLLEGE CAMPUSES.

They held a friendly at Auburn and brought out the War Eagle and a flyover. The visitors had never seen anything like it.

The English fans? They went to an Atlanta Braves game and adopted a outfielder. Made up chants for him and everything. They didn't understand baseball at all. They still had a good time.

This is also leaving out them just apparently falling in love with Ranch dressing so much one of the manufacturers started making basically ranch carrying case that followed airline regs so you could take some home rather than trying to sneak too many bottles on board(something about too much liquid with your carry on or something).

I hope anyone that came for the games had a pleasant stay and I hope you come back to visit from time to time. Granted we might not be as nice, we kinda rolled up more of a carpet for the world cup, but at the end of the day we like good food, fun and have more in common with you than some people would want you to think.

The defense's job is to defend. This involves providing alternate theories to the facts of the case, showing where there is doubt, doing everything they can to make sure the prosecution's case has to be strong.

Regarding the warehouse arson, he wasn’t working for Kimberly-Clark, whose inventory he destroyed, he was working for a contracted inventory management company. So his “protest” didn’t actually make a point, his employers didn’t actually lose anything except maybe a contract for that one warehouse which can be offset by firing his co-workers. Kimberly-Clark likely had insurance, but will suffer some loss due to higher premiums, but they didn’t control his pay.
