what software do you use to write fics?
word
google docs
libre office
some other (mention it in comments or reblogs)
also, do tell me why you like that particular software.
This man, the joy that is Darth Vowrawn, has been in Sith governance for over fifty years and is quite the company. Darth Arho lasted less than a year and he didn’t have a sense of humour.
Following the Story
This is mostly a question for those who like to develop stories for their character(s): do you rigidly follow the games, or do you diverge at some points so everything makes sense? Or do you simply ignore the main class stories altogether, make up your own from scratch and/or borrow certain elements (i.e. companions) carte blanche?
Reason I’m asking is because I’ve been finalizing details of my Legacy’s story solely for art/fic purposes, and in regards to the Sith Warrior, his story diverts pretty drastically about the halfway point (involving the Sith Inquisitor, who is a Darth at that point), and I’m still not 100% sure how taboo-or-not divergences from main class stories are in the SWTOR fandom. =V
I talk and post about my characters in the context of their class stories quite a lot because I love the stories, I love the companions and playing through in-character is one of my main sources of enjoyment in the game, not to mention a great source of potential character development.
However, I consider all the class stories 100% not-canon for my characters, so they all have a ‘real’ story completely separate from their class stories, companions, etc., which is much more developed. (In some cases I didn’t start development on these til after I finished the class stories, and in others I already had plans before I even began). I tend to post about this stuff less, because I feel like it’s probably of less interest to people, not to mention the closer to ‘original’ content things get, the more nervous I get about sharing them, but if your characters have any interactions with mine, expect me to talk your ear off about my characters’ actual places in the universe u_u
That’s just how I like to do things, though, and I am equally happy to read stories about, enjoy art of, or share interactions with characters who are 100% independent from their class stories or 100% reliant on them, or anywhere in-between. Personally, the only time I think it matters whether you use the class story or not is in open world RP. For art, fic or private RP or plotting, my vote is that you do whatever you find the most fun.
Most of my legacies follow the “canon story” fairly closely, though i do take liberties with underdeveloped characters and areas.
I love taking NPCs who get 40 seconds of screen time and writing 5k word fanfictions about them.
I use the setting and in game stories as background - aka those things are certainly happening, but they are happening to other people. I have one character who a modification of the class story happens to (Sabrah is my Darth Nox/Alliance Commander), but the same outcome can’t really happen to the rest of them, they are different people.
So my characters are all part of a separate but connected story that is happening at the same time. There are billions of people in the galaxy after all, with their own life and own stories, and that is what I’m exploring.
when u create too many ocs and dont have the time to develop them all equally and ur brain just wants u to focus on one or two at a time but u keep making more and more and u feel like ur abandoning the ones u havent done anything with for a while

WAIT IT’S CALLED A THROW PILLOW
here is a super helpful website for this kinda thing!
the first result isn’t always the one you’re looking for but when you press enter it’ll give you a ton of words related to your query that’ll probably have what you’re wanting, or something better
here’s some examples:
Reblog to save a writer's sanity.
writers will really have a doc titled ‘fic planning’ and then it’s just blank
writers will say “i’m going to write!” and then do something else with the doc open in the background
writers will literally put out the most heart-wrenching and devastating piece of fiction that’s a million times better than the source and go haha hope you liked :)
writers will have a life changing event happen to them (married, natural disaster, accident etc etc) and then still manage to put out an incredible fic and go ‘sorry this was 0.394838373 seconds late guys :(‘
writers will go ‘love writing!’ and then don’t write for 10 years
anyway i love writing and i love writers
now hold on a goddamned second
writers will complain about this post while continuing to not write
I’m starting to suspect that the only way to get my fics written is to write them
I feel attacked... :P
It's not MY fault they're so easy to whack with a comically large angst hammer
