and according to the exact legal phrasing-

No protected person may be punished for an offense he or she has not personally committed. Collective penalties and likewise all measures of intimidation or of terrorism are prohibited.

This technically counts, as students are civilians, and thus considered a “protected person”. So yes, collective classroom punishment breaks the fourth Geneva Convention, and she should be rewarded for standing up for human rights and doing her research.

Yeah, but the Geneva Convention only applies to protected persons during active times of war (meaning they have to be the ones who are targeted in the war either by being the deemed enemy or being associated with them through whatever means either being a civilian or whatever) and the definition of “war” is hard defined so you couldn’t loophole it with “there’s a war on children because of our garbage education system” or if she’s a child of colour that there’s a definable war against POC, which, while true, is not considered the kind of war where the Geneva Convention would apply

Government documents, treaties, and agreements are like trying to ask a genie for a million bucks and and not expecting that you’ll get one million grown ass male deer in your house, but, yanno, you super do

That said, collective academic punishment IS a trash system and she spoke out against a system she feels wronged by so idk why you’d contemplate grounding her for that
