working with kids and one of them says “you know you eat 8 spiders a night on average right?” and another goes “no no no those statistics are actually skewed by people who like eat spiders recreationally for fun and stuff” and my head snapped up like a fucking sleeper agent
I think one of the funniest abortion stances I've heard was from my parents neighbor. He's a like, hard-core libertarian viking larper guy who is very tall and very fat and very bald.
He believes a fetus is human with a soul, but also its "basically attacking the woman's body" so if she wants to get rid of it, that's "basically self-defense". He compared it to shooting a home invader. So he supports abortion not as healthcare, but as killing a baby in self-defense
Y'know I'm so glad someone reminded me of this. Because this was also discussed.
My stepmother did NOT like the way her Libertarian Viking Neighbor framed pregnancy as the fetus "attacking the woman". She incredulously told him this was extremely disrespectful to expectant mothers to portray pregnancy as so violent and negative.
Libertarian Viking Neighbor's response was that people consensually hurt each other all the time, and "there's like a whole community about that, with the acronym the one that starts with a B" And his reasoning was that if the mother was consenting to bring attacked by the baby, it in fact wasn't violent and negative because there was consent.
He brought up people consensually hurting each other, didn't go for one of the obvious answers like boxing or body mods or something, no he went STRAIGHT TO BDSM and he DIDN'T EVEN REMEMBER THE ACRONYM
Ok I've been seeing more takes like this, especially on tiktok.
Ka/aang stans: Why is aang out of character in the movie, he would never trust tagah over katara and his friends, it doesn't make sense because he chose katara over cosmic energy in the og series remember.
Me: oh boy....you all did not get why him choosing katara over his duty was detrimental to his growth and it shows. Like you all call us media illiterate and you really cant see why it makes sense for aang to give in to his wants and trust tagah?
His attachment to katara was unhealthy and needed to be let go he wasn't in love with her.... he was in love with the idea of her,, but you all don't wanna hear it because it doesn't serve your ship that aang is a yearner an lover boy and there's nothing wrong with him sacrificing the world to get with katara.
Aang wanted katara
Aang did not WANT to kill ozai
Aang wants to bring air bending back
Aang has always done what he wants, its why he even neglects his two eldest kids and favors the one who airbends of course.
All the post series canon does is prove that Aang's critics were right all along. People keep saying that he's OOC in the comics and LOK, and now the movie, I guess, but he's exactly who I would have expected him to be if he existed in real life. What baffles me is that Mike and Bryan allowed such an honest portrayal of their pet character.
Then again, they would have to recognize the deep, deep flaws in their own worldviews and how they affect the way they wrote these stories, and that's a level of introspection I don't think they're capable of. So, I guess the ironic accidental honesty is the best we're going to get.
i do think lobbying for data centres over climate goals should be considered a crime against humanity btw
The whole point of loving our fanmade Zutara fanon is so we don't have to deal with creepy crappy Bryke canon.
Hope that helps clarify things for you.
I will never understand how people will think this dynamic is toxic.
But this one isn’t?
Same episode by the way.🤓☝️

im begging the zutara fandom to ship with no regrets; i see so many posts by zutara shippers being like "i respect the canon but" or "the live action will probably follow the canon and that's okay but" and its like fuck the canon. lol zutara is better than the canon. ship that shit proudly. this fandom didn't last two decades because us og shippers cared about what bryke thought lol
If u can accept General Iroh, The Dragon of the West who laid siege to Ba Sing Se for 600 days and was responsible for the deaths of hundreds if not thousands of people, as someone worthy of redemption, then you can accept the defected fire nation soldiers who Katara protected as worthy of the same. Even if you cant accept that, that doesnt change the fact that Katara DOES.
You were all able to accept Jeong Jeong and his soldiers turning their backs on the fire nation in the og series, so why not now? You could accept Katara coming to the defence of fire nation citizens not once, not twice, but three times. but not now? She fought along side Jeong Jeong in the animated series as well. She fought against Jet in the animated series. She stood her ground against Aang and Sokka to protect fire nation citizens in the animated series. She believed Zuko was worthy of redemption, was friends with Iroh, felt empathy for Azula. Do I need to remind you?
Yet now, you take issue with it. Interesting. Like it or not, its in character for her to act this way in this situation. Even if it wasn't - its a different show and they are allowed to make different decisions with the characters and plot.
If you just dont like it because it was used as a way for Zuko and Katara to get more screen time together as the Painted Lady and Blue Spirit, well, then, grow up. I dont know what else to say it's literally embarrassing to be getting so mad and defensive about a ship.
and again, you dont have to morally agree with her decisions but u have to understand that this is what she believes. claiming its OOC is so far off base its ridiculous. This is Katara we're talking about.
the shows not a masterpiece i dont think anyone is claiming that but if youre gonna invent reasons to be mad about it at least be consistent. I would say at least try to bring some nuance to the discussion but I genuinely dont think these type of people are capable of that. LOL
An opinion without 3.14159 is just an onion.
Guys this isnt even funny. Please stop.
There was a TikTok of an (American) woman who was documenting her husband’s ICU room and expressing displeasure with the state it was in, it was generally unclean with broken equipment, rust stains, clipped flooring, things that can make a medical environment unsafe. I opened the comments expecting people to be like “Wow, that’s scary. And a huge infection risk. ICU stays often cost patients upwards of $100k and not enough of that money is going to maintenance and cleaning.” But instead it was nurses being utterly vile to this woman. Not saying “You’re right, it’s terrible that we’re forced to do our jobs in unsafe, unclean and outdated environments.” they were telling her she was a prime example of why patients’ families were the worst part of their job.
The hospital that charged my insurance $87k for a single endoscopy & colonoscopy performed on me was recently fined for having dirty equipment. If not on sanitation, if not on giving nurses and providers better wages, if not on updating the facility, where the hell did that money go? If nurses could band together to attack and criticize hospital administration and the American medical system in the way they band together to attack and criticize patients and advocates online, all of our lives could improve.
But of course it is easier to raise the sword against the vulnerable person dependent on your care, on the people often experiencing the worst day of their life when they are too frightened and in pain to treat you with courtesy. It’s easier to lash out at the patient inquiring about their medication after waiting two hours than to lash out at the people responsible for making you responsible for 30 patients at once.
I don’t think anyone blames nurses for hospital rooms being nasty. It’s not their job. It’s the job of custodial staff and maintenance. It’s the job of administration to fund those departments. It’s a problem at the top. If we could all look upwards instead of down when it comes to who we criticize and blame, we could make progress.
