Ryan's Top Ten Favourite Doctor Who Villains
I love Doctor Who, I’ve been watching it for over a decade now and I can’t wait to see Jodie Whittaker portray the 13th Doctor, the first female incarnation in the series. I’ll make a list for my favourite incarnations of the doctor at a later point because today I want to talk villains.
There have been countless villains and monsters in the series, some more memorable than others. This is a list of my ten favourites at the moment and I will of course be including an honourable mentions to go along with this list so here they are.
House, The Fisher King, Max Capricorn, The Weeping Angels, The Silurians, The Sea Devils, The Gelth, The Cult of Skaro, The New Dalek Paradigm, The Family of Blood, The Sontarans, The Zygons, The Voc Robots, Robot K1, The Great Intelligence, The Pyroviles, The Emojibots, The Vespiform and The Judoon.

A rogue time lord who was The Doctor’s childhood friend in the past; while The Doctor seeks to see the universe, The Master wants to own it.
The Doctor’s arch-nemesis has gone through a good few faces since he first made a name for himself (herself more recently). Part of the reason I like The Master a lot is because of how he’s basically the opposite to the Doctor and whenever he shows up, its always to conduct either a diabolical plot or throw a spanner in the works somewhere. Its great when the character shows up without warning like in series 3 for example.

A famous time lord who found himself ruling Gallifrey during the great time war, Rassilon has been an enemy of The Doctor on only two occasions however on both of these occasions, its clear to see just how mad with power he is.
Rassilon has a major mark in the history of Gallifrey, the Doctor's home world and this is partly why he's on the list since despite his small screen time, he's a very important character.
Appears in: Genesis of the Daleks, Destiny of the Daleks, Resurrection of the Daleks, Revelation of the Daleks, Remembrance of the Daleks, The Stolen Earth, Journey's End, The Magician's Apprentice and The Witch's Familiar.
The creator of the Daleks, Davros is a mad scientist who lost control of his evil creations.
Another of the Doctor's greatest adversaries, Davros turned his own people into the Daleks, who abandoned him until they needed him. He strangely remains loyal to his creations and even makes Daleks from cells of his own body. What makes Davros so interesting as a villain is the fact that he has no control over his creations yet they continue to rely on him for more Daleks and for strategies and advice.

Probably one of the greatest adversaries of the Tenth Doctor, The Beast is basically what Satan would be if he was an alien.
Appearing in a two part story, The Beast was an imprisoned being on a plant that was in orbit of a black hole. The Beast attempted to free itself by manipulating the crew of a research facility and its Ood workforce. We don't get a good look at The Beast until the story has neared its end however its presence can be felt before it even appears. Its appearance doesn't disappoint either, looking like a giant devil like monster. The Beast even claims to be the origin of Satan stories in religion, which raises questions about its mysterious origins.

One of the Fourth Doctor’s adversaries, Scaroth was an alien who found himself existing in different periods of time simultaneously, this was caused by the explosion of his ship in prehistoric times, which also happened to be the catalyst for life to develop on Earth.
What makes Scaroth so interesting is the fact that his plan to reverse the accident is taking place in twelve different periods of time and all twelve of him could communicate with each other too. While he only wants to prevent the explosion, it would mean that he’d be responsible for human life never existing. He’s definitely one of the best one time villains in the series and more memorable than many of the others that have appeared throughout the show’s duration and its this that makes me feel like he’s one of the best villains in the series.

After the Daleks and The Master, the Cybermen are the next most frequent adversaries for The Doctor. They were human once, but “upgraded” themselves to be devoid of emotion. The most recent versions of the Cybermen have only the human brain remaining.
What makes the Cybermen so memorable and interesting for me is the fact that they are not always the same when they appear. The most recent versions are overpowered whereas the older versions are less so. While they usually want the same goal every time they appear, to “upgrade” everyone around them, there’s always something different brought to the table every time they make an appearance.

The most high profile Dalek to have ever faced The Doctor, The Dalek Emperor definitely looks imposing.
The Dalek Emperor has only appeared in two different stories but the reason I like this villain so much is because of how memorable he is. Usually when we get a Dalek episode its about a small group or a group that Davros is leading, or in one case two groups fighting each other. When the emperor of the Daleks is involved, you just know things are going to get serious. While the chances of him appearing again are minuscule at the moment, he was a great big bad for the first series of the revival.

A race of aliens that can edit themselves out of your memory, the concept behind the Silence is terrifying and it made them a great set of adversaries for the Eleventh Doctor. They used this ability to influence human history while working with an organisation that planned to kill The Doctor.
While they don't really have a reason to appear in the show again, they managed to leave their mark and will probably get remembered as some of the greatest monsters in the series and I really liked these villains too, especially their eerie resemblance to both stereotypical aliens and Slenderman.

A warrior race from the planet Mars, the Ice Warriors are among the oldest of the Doctor’s recurring adversaries.
Some of the oldest and most famous of the classical Doctor Who monsters, the Ice Warriors are iconic and have a very threatening appearance and its great to see them in the modern Doctor Who too. They're the Martians basically but they need their armour in order to survive Mars' environment. The reason they're second place here is because I love their design. It makes them very unique from other monsters in the series, and the armour looks awesome lets face it.
1. The Special Weapons Dalek
Appears in: Remembrance of the Daleks, Asylum of the Daleks, The Magician’s Apprentice and The Witch’s Familiar.
During a civil war between two Dalek armies for a time lord super-weapon, this Dalek found its way onto the battlefield on the side of the renegades.
What’s essentially a Dalek heavy duty cannon, this Dalek first appeared in the Dalek civil war fighting for Davros’ renegade faction. The reason its my favourite Doctor Who antagonist is simply because of how awesome this thing is. Its other appearances are just background ones but I’d love to see this thing in action again.
