Farah was born to immigrant parents who wanted the best for her and her sisters but who also wanted them to have secure futures

She grew up knowing what a hard work ethic was and really strove to make them proud/set an example for her younger sisters

She went to college for physics/astronomy and was doing great until she rediscovered her love of art which she’d put on the back burner

Lied to her fam and said she took a job but really took an apprenticeship with an artist in her hometown of Lockwood (her fam had moved to CA by then)

When they found out, her parents stopped talking to her and she kinda had to figure out things for herself post grad

During that time back in Lockwood, she reconnected with Arthur who’d been a good friend in HS and who was dealing with the loss of his HS gf whom Farah had also been close with

What started out as a friend support a friend soon became something more, with Farah caring for his newborn daughter and for him with more than friendly affection

It wasn’t long before they started a relationship and got married. 

Cracks began to show when she was pregnant with twins and he was dealing with his father and they really prioritized their three kids (Farah having legally adopted his daughter too) and their relationship began to breakdown slowly but surely over the years until they divorced in 2019. There’s still much love for him and care as the father of her children but they just couldn’t hack it after 20 something years.

During those years she got her masters and has begun teaching at a community college 45 mins away. At the same time she’s running a successful gallery. 

HEADCANONS.

A big yogi, she does yoga for an hour each morning if she can, and tries not to do less than 30 minutes as it centers her

Was a cheerleader in HS but encouraged her older daughter to avoid it if she wanted to avoid petty drama, but if she wanted to join, she’d support her fully

Engaged all children in art from an early start, letting them paint their rooms and encouraging all forms of creativity

Simultaneously she would also encourage curiosity in the world around them, especially in space and the Khan-Callahans would take camping trips where Farah would point out constellations and planets to her kids with a telescope she was gifted by her parents upon graduating college.

Started speaking to her parents again after she had kids at 27 and despite there being some unresolved feelings about where Farah ended up career-wise, both her parents love her three kids and dote on them

Her first language was Farsi spoken at home and then English. She has taught her children Farsi and even attempted to teach Arthur, though she suspects he only really paid attention to the curse words.

She wasn’t close to her sisters during the time their parents didn’t speak to her but they didn’t ice her out completely. She and Arthur didn’t have a big wedding but her sisters sent gifts anyway.

She adopted Arthur’s 1-year old daughter when they got married and they had twins, Malik & Leila, in 2005 who are 18 and in their first year of college.

Farah is incredibly encouraging of the artists who come through Gallery 115 and does her best to help some of the younger ones network.

It’s close to closing and foot-traffic is winding down in the gallery. Farah doesn’t really mind since it gives her time to work on a few things at the front desk (she’d let her receptionist go home for the day). After sending a few quick emails, Farah grabs the broom and begins sweeping by the high-traffic areas (a new local artist with realistic takes on sculpture pillows and a Denver based painter who was originally from Lockwood, proudly displaying his own interpretations of his hometown). Humming Dua Lipa to herself, Farah moves through the gallery when the buzz of the door opening catches her attention. With her best, customer-facing smile on, she spins to greet the new potential last-minute visitor only to falter at the sight of a family friend. “Millie?” It’s not like her to drop in. Her mind immediately goes to Casey and Tate but does her best not to jump to conclusion. She reminds herself she’d spoken to her daughter earlier that day. “Is everything okay?” @milliestanley​

Casey can’t help the laugh that escapes her at her mother’s dismissal of the poor man. Even when her parents were together, she remembers seeing men’s eyes linger on her mom longer than what was required. And who could blame them? She’s stunning, and for the longest time, and maybe even now still, Casey wonders what it’s like to be regularly desired like that. The kind of woman who turns heads when she walks into a room. She’s always been in awe of women like that, helplessly and harmlessly wondering what it’s like. “I know what you’re doing, but okay. Moving on. But just so you know you’ve signed up for a very, very boring mission,” She chuckles. “I had a parent come to my homeroom class and ask if I knew how much longer it would be until the teacher got back. Hate to say that’s not the first time that’s happened. Let’s see what else. Tate and I are working on this special little project thing for my classes, so I’m really hoping the kids enjoy it,” She says with a sweeter smile as she directs her attention down to her mug. Shrugging, Casey brings her eyes back to her mom. “See? Not much excitement or action over here. How’s your week going?” 

Rocking a little in her seat, Casey bops along to the song scoring the conversations in the coffeeshop. “Wait, no. I think you’re so right. Like I couldn’t put my finger on it while we were in there, but she was giving off this vibe that there was going to be a pop quiz or something at any given moment. Like if I didn’t immediately know the name of the pose, she was going to excommunicate me from the class and like yoga as a whole. You’re a much better instructor than her anyway,” Casey says truthfully, reaching for her mom’s mug and taking a sip of the latte. Her green eyes light up, a hum of satisfaction leaving her as she returns the mug.  “That is so, so good. Mine’s okay if you wanted to try it, which doesn’t sound super inviting, but I still wanted to offer. It’s a lavender latte. I thought it would be purple, honestly. That’s what I get for wanting to try something new,” She says, extending her own mug now.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about, love,” Farah says with a wink, grateful that Casey was willing to let it drop...for now. Her daughter was strong willed when she wanted to be. She didn’t need the concern, though. Or, at the very least, didn’t want it to preoccupy Casey. She was happy, really, and though sometimes she thinks it’d be nice to do life with someone again, she’s not in the headspace to dive back in, knowing how much effort it takes. She’d rather focus on the important things in her life. Like her kids. She furrows her brow at the parent and shakes her head. “Do you want me to talk to them?” she offers in complete seriousness despite being half joking. “I mean it, Case, I’ll go to work with you tomorrow if you want.” Though, truthfully, she’d go just to see how well her daughter was doing. She’d always been talented. “Oh?” she raises a brow, “what’s the project? Or is it top secret?” Farah has always maintained that boys and girls could be friends but she’s also always wondered about Tate and the amount of time he and Casey spend together. She doesn’t push it with questions, knowing form her own experience that’s a surefire way to not get any answers. “It’s been great, actually – sold a painting by a new artist. It was their first big sale so it made their week too.”

Farah takes a sip of her daughter’s drink and almost immediately wrinkles her nose. “Why does it taste like I’m drinking perfume?” she laughs, setting it back down in front of Casey before grinning at the compliment. “Thanks, baby, I need to finish my license renewal and then I’ll be able to teach again.” She’d let it slip when things got busy at the gallery and during finals at the community college. “And I’ll do my best not to make it feel like a test. You know Marl hates coming already, I bet he’d have left if he’d been in her class.”

Arthur slowly realized that speaking any kind of sense to Farah wasn’t going to work so he just nodded, but to be honest her accusation of him falling asleep sounded accurate and he laughed. Maybe if he had been more attentive he wouldn’t have two ex wives, but well…they weren’t exes for the same reasons. “I’m not mad, I just…wanted to go home.” he admitted, and then pointed at her. “And take you back to your home so you can sleep this off.” He supposed it was good she was having fun. So he frowned again, more in need of a drink than before. “Wait, let me…” he removed his Sheriff star from his shirt and tucked it into the front pocket as if that would make any difference to sitting in a strip club in full uniform. How he had a job was beyond him but for some reason nobody ever fucking fired him, no matter how hard he tried. Before he knew it, a tray of drinks were in front of them and he groaned. He was never going to leave this place was he? He had visions of himself stripping to Bad Boys by Inner Circle for the rest of his days. “Farah, come on. Just one!”

There are moments when Farah’s wondered if they could’ve made it. If it would’ve been worth the fight. But then she reminds herself that she’d been fighting the entire time to make it work and he’d given up. She’d realized towards the end that nothing she did would make them whole again. So she’d let go and they’d fallen apart, like pieces of an orange split down its center. A perfect break but a break nonetheless. “Then goooo,” she pouts, shooing at him. “I don’t..need you here.” Farah says even though, apparently, “she’d called him”. Sure. “I will sleep! Everyone sleeps, Arty.” Except she’d been known to wake up at the crack of dawn with about five hours of sleep under her belt to get things started in their household. Now she had plenty of time to sleep, even if her empty house made her miss her children more than she’d let on. “No, no, this is fun! I did it-” she breaks off with a hiccup and shakes her head, pushing a glass his way, “earlier. C’mon,” Farah insists, practically bouncing in her seat beside him, “we...we used to have fun!” She takes a swig of her own drink, and gestures at him to follow suit before leaning in to whisper loudly in his ear. “I won’t tell anyone you’re the sherriff.”

‘it’s a little funny.’ stevie admits with a small chuckle, but then uses her thumb and forefinger to signal the tiny amount of amusement. then, she stretches them a little wider apart. ‘i think it’s just because you know he’s safe, i wouldn’t read too much into it, honey. that’s women’s biggest downfall.’ she says, sipping her beer and laughing again. ‘sometimes men are just nice people, not the special dick-waving heroes the world makes them out to be.’

“Okay...” Farah sighs, raking a hand through her hair as she straightens, elbows braced on the bar. “A little. But still humiliating. I’m supposed to be living my best life and there I was getting drunk on a Wednesday night at a strip club.” She doesn’t want to look pathetic, though she’s never had those doubts before. The entire situation just lent itself to embarrassment. “You’re right. I’ll just pretend it never happened.” Farah chuckles. “What? Art isn’t Captain America? And I’m just finding this out now?” she says with a wry smile. She was well acquainted with her ex’s flaws, but she also knew Stevie’s words carried weight. He was safe and they were friends (sort of). It wasn’t anything to read into or dwell on.

Marl wasn’t in any position to pass up friends. Usually after one conversation they snubbed him, but that was the price people had to pay. No more communication skills thanks to the fucking iPhone. Fuck Steve Jobs. “Of course I didn’t buy a yoga mat.” Marl scoffed at her, knowing she meant well but Jesus, did he have ‘let me give you my money dear government?’ tattooed on his forehead? Fuck no, tattoo ink gave you lead poisoning for starters. “There’s a floor in there, I don’t need to buy a softer floor just to do the same movements. Don’t tell me you got one? Farah, we’ve been over this. Most things are a scam, follow the money. I bet the company selling yoga mats sells yoga classes, right? It’s all the same bullshit.”

Farah stares at her friend blankly for a moment before blinking. She should’ve known better. After all, how long had she known Marl for? “Right. So I do have one because I don’t actually prefer banging up my joints. Don’t blame yoga when you’re sore tomorrow, Marl.” She shakes her head and gestures at his sock-clad fee. “You’ll need to take those off and no, no one’s gonna try and make you buy yoga socks or take your socks or whatever. But the floor is slippery.” Hence the mat. “I would’ve brought one of my extras for you. And since I already bought them, we wouldn’t be putting anymore money into the system, right?” she adds before he can poke another hole in her words, though she’s sure he’ll find a way. Where there’s a will, right?

The Phoenix isn’t opened yet but she’s sipping some club soda, having given up alcohol for the indefinite future after her night at Restricted Access. “Why did I call him? What if the kids found out?                              Soraya scanned through her ipad, taking the task at hand as seriously as she would with a work one. Vacations were serious business too and she definitely knew her and Farah deserved a break. Life had been far too crazy for them. “Yeah, I could be swayed.” she grinned up to her sister, swaying slightly as she thought. “Can’t we go somewhere warmer?” Soraya then asked and then thought again. “No, screw that. Hot, super hot. Like AC blasting, sweaty knees hot.” she laughed but even saying it sounded horrible. “I guess our parents never loved us enough, Far.” Soraya winked, knowing it was untrue. They did love all their children, but went about showing the affection all wrong. “We definitely agree on a nature break and no cities, right? Maybe try our hand at wild-camping?”

“I feel like Vancouver isn’t that cold during the summer? Like sweatshirt and shorts weather. We could always try Cancún?” But for some reason the thought of sitting on a beach for a week makes Farah antsy. She takes a sip of her coffee and nods at Sori. “We could do Arizona? Get you that dry heat? I’m open,” she shrugs, resting her forehead against the countertop and stretching a bit, muscles still sore from her class earlier. She chuckles at her little sister’s words and nods. “It’s true. And they’re trying to make up for it by spoiling my kids.” She doesn’t actually think that, though it had been dicey for a few years. “Yeah, right, wild camping seems right up our alley,” Farah cackles, finishing her coffee and straightening. “I’d say Hawaii if it wasn’t so goddamn far. We could try Seattle again but if it rains the entire time, you’d never forgive me.”

“You called me.” Arthur deadpanned, blinking a few times as he tried to get his phone out of his pocket and check to see if he had imagined it. How many drinks did Farah have between the call and his arrival? Arthur wondered if he had tumbled into the twilight zone or a different dimension entirely as he watched Farah hiccup and slur her way through the words. “Okay, Game of Thrones.” he nodded, treating his ex-wife how you were supposed to respond to dementia delusions. “Whatever the hell that is.” he mumbled quietly to the dancer, who was sitting on the other side of him. He supposed there were worse people to be squished between. Like Gabe and Dewey. That wouldn’t have been a funny story to tell. “I came to get you, Farah ‘cause you said you didn’t know how you could get home.” Arthur wasn’t sure how he was supposed to get her off the seats without touching her, and their legs touching was already weird enough. “Okay, if I have a drink, will you get in the car so I can take you home?” he asked, thinking he’d be able to just take a sip and convince her drunk ass he had been there for an hour.

Farah shakes her head insistently, “no, no, I didn’t –– I don’t...I didn’t call you,” she finally works out, even if it’s really anyone’s guess whether she did or didn’t. But why would she call Arthur of all people? That’s just ridiculous. Farah nods as he repeats the name of the show and laughs, “you –– you would...you would fall asleep,” she reminds him though he probably doesn’t even remember. And then there came a point where she’d stopped trying to watch with him altogether. Though she doesn’t remember those specifics now as she laughs again. “Are you...mad?” She frowns, trying to imitate his face, drawing her brows together dramatically. “You should smile more, Arty.” Farah pokes his cheek, “it’s the b-best,”When he says he’ll have a drink, Farah’s face breaks into a grin as she nods vehemently, “I promise.” she says, drawing an x across her heart even if she’s too intoxicated to determine whether she means it or not. Regardless, she gets the attention of a server and points at Arthur, “bourbon!” she practically shouts over the music, oblivious to the fact that he’s in uniform.

“What about Vancouver?” Farah asks her younger sister, taking a sip of coffee. She’s perched at her island, hair still wet from her post-yoga shower. “We could do a long weekend or something. Though I’d want to go to Banff too so maybe a week?” They were figuring out summer plans and since Farah has off from teaching night classes, she can close the gallery for a week to take a vacation. “I can’t believe mom and dad are taking the kids to Ireland. When was the last time we got invited to go to Ireland?” It was a delayed high school graduation gift for the twins. She looks up at Sori with an amused expression on her face, “or anywhere for that matter.” There’s no real ire in Farah’s tone, since she’s abundantly grateful their parents were in a position these days to take their grandkids on a special trip at all.  @sorayakhan​

“How the hell did you end up here?” Arthur asked, stalking towards Farah. A cop in a strip club sounded like the start of a really bad joke, one he would definitely laugh at. In all the time they were separated for, Arthur had never been called upon for any drunken help and the last thing he was expecting was to be turning down his radio and sitting beside his ex wife surrounded by…breasts. “Farah, I got no idea what you’re talking about at the best of times. Game of Dragons? That like candy crush?” he squeezed onto the seating, pushing his legs together uncomfortably. “Excuse me.” Arthur then said politely to the blonde dancer, whatever the hell her name was. He wasn’t an easily embarrassed man but having both legs pushed beside a dancer’s and then Farah’s wasn’t something he usually experienced. “We gotta go, I’m on the clock.” he grumbled, not that he usually cared about the work-clock.

“How did you end up here,” Farah asks with a hiccup, taking a swig of her drink as she pats his arm. They used to have fun...a long time ago. She doesn’t remember what happened. When that stopped. Strip clubs were fun. Maybe she should’ve been a dancer, that would’ve been fun. “She’s–– no no.” Farah shakes her head vehemently, which is a mistake because even seated, she tips into Art’s side. Had she been sober, she would’ve leapt aside the moment they came within two feet of each other but she’s far from sober and instead burst into a fit of giggles. “She’s the queen, Arty. Danielle. Danny. Not Danny. Daniel? Dani.” Farah snaps her fingers, the name coming to her. “Dani! Throne of Games. Game of–” she slurs, “thrones!” And when she finally gets it right, she’s met with applause from some of the girls beside her. Farah beams before furrowing her brows. “We can’t leave,” she insists, “you just...you’re here!” Farah shoves her drink at him in generous offering. "I’ll share,” Farah nods, “I’m great at sharing.”
