I like to call myself a chaotic hearth witch, treading the line between those two carefully. It also means that I am not the type for lavish and big rituals, preferring to keep them small and at home or at nearby forests.
Not every full moon I feel like doing a big ritual, due to either lack of time, lack of resources or I simply am not in the right headspace. The most important thing is to do what feels best for you. Here are a few simple things you can do every Full Moon. Of course you can spice them up with the correspondences of the current full moon, or to your liking!
The end of the year is nearing quickly, and with that the month of December as well!
Honestly, I am quite forgetful at times. I forget sabbats, full moons, new moons, everything basically. In short: I am a chaotic little witch and I need a little help with remembering things. In the hopes of helping with remembering, I am going to make a list of everything that happens in a specific month so I can look at it and just have everything in one place.
Sabbat: December 21st - Yule
Full moon: December 27th - Cold Moon
New Moon: December 13th
A money bowl is a very populair way to do a money spell. But I've made my own variant on this, combining the Money Bowl spell with Candle Magic. I try to redo this spell every time month or whenever I feel like it is time to do so.
What do we need
A green bowl
A green candle
Basil (for money)
Cinnamon (Stick or powder, for prosperity)
Rice (for succes)
Citrine, Sunstone or Obisidian (for abundance, optional)
A few coins (or one, depending on the size of your vessel)
Frankincense or sandalwood incence sticks (for cleansing)
The process
Cast a protective circle (or light your protective candle, click here for how I made mine)
Cleanse your bowl with the incence, let it burn down while you work on your Money spell
Put the rice in the green bowl
Add the Basil and Cinnamon. You can also grind the basil with a mortar and pestle if you have a small bowl.
Add your coins to the bowl, leave some room in the middle
Put your green candle in the bowl. Optionally, you can also carve a sigil or rune for prosperity, abundance or money in the candle.
Light your candle, burn it for however long you like.
Put the bowl on your altar and light the candle whenever you feel like you need an extra boost money-wise.
That is how I make my Money Bowl Spell! Like always, I encourage mixing and matching to suit your personal practice. I hope that my personal Money Bowl Spell inspires you to make your own! Blessed Be!
Every day of the week has its own magical properties. Personally, I like to incorporate those properties into my spell work. Now, I don't always do this. Sometimes when the time feels right, it is right. But more often than not, I will take a glance at the day's correspondences. Since I am probably not the only one doing this, I decided to make a cheat sheet for who ever needs it!
In the future I will make separate posts for each day, going more in depth about the day and its correspondences. But this is a quick cheat-sheet to look at whenever you need it! Blessed Be!
I have been practicing witchcraft off and on for about 16 years, and in those 16 years I've discovered that I do not have the patience to cast a protective circle with elaborate chants and hand movements every time that I do a spell. So I developed this particular method, which works perfectly for me. And it might work for you as well!
What do we need?
A white candle
Pester and Mortar
Neutral oil (I use almond oil, but olive oil is okay too)
Rosemary (for cleansing and purification)
Lavender (for cleansing and purification)
Mugwort (for protection)
Bay leaf (for purification, protection and to set intention)
Thyme (for banishing)
The process
I like to cleanse my space first before doing any spell work. I light my previous candle if I have one, otherwise I cleanse with sound. For this, I use my bell and ring it thrice.
Add the Rosemary, Lavender, Mugwort and Thyme in your mortar. Grind until the herbs are small.
Take your bay leaf and write your intention down on it.
Add it to your mortar and grind until its small.
Anoint your candle with the oil.
Sprinkle your herb mixture on the candle until it's covered to your satisfaction.
Put the candle in a candle holder and light it whenever you want to do a spell. You can walk a circle with it or just let it burn on your altar. That's completely up to you, what you feel is best.
That is my very easy protection candle, which I use to cast circles with. I usually let it burn on my altar for the duration of my spell work and blow it out when I am done. While working on the candle, I also like to play some music. I make playlists with songs that give me the right vibe; Click here for my protection playlist!
I hope this works for you as it works for me, or inspires you to find your own easy way to protect your space! Blessed Be!
It is a full moon tomorrow night, the Beaver Moon to be exact. Click here to read more about it. I have been asked what I will be doing for it. And I gathered, why not share it with all of you?
Before I start doing any ritual, I like to cleanse my space with sound. I have a bell for this, but it can be anything that you like. I also like to listen to music, because it gets me in the right headspace to do a ritual. Click here for my full moon playlist on Spotify!
Journaling
Every full moon I like to journal and do some prompts. I choose these prompts with the moon's spiritual intentions in mind. For the Beaver Moon these are: Protection, Release, Cleansing, Empathy, Transformation and Preparation. You can journal before or after your ritual. I like to do it before, so that I am in the right headspace for the current full moon.
I've chosen for the following journal prompts:
What aspects of my life am I ready to transform or release?
In what ways can I gather and preserve my energy for the winter ahead?
What's a recent situation or emotion that feels like its blocking my progress and how can I work to overcome it?
The Ritual
Now let's move on to the actual ritual I will be doing! I have decided to do a releasing ritual, to leave behind anything I don't want in the past year and move on with the things that I do want. For this particular ritual, I have also incorporated colour magic and candle magic.
What do we need?
Neutral oil (I use almond oil, but olive oil is also okay!)
Black pepper (To banish)
Black candle (For new beginnings, but a white candle is also okay!)
Candle holder
Pen
Paper
Rosemary (for cleansing)
Hyssop (for purification)
A heat-safe dish, bowl, cauldron
A lighter or matches
Pester and mortar
The process
Put the Rosemary and Hyssop in the Pester and Mortar. Grind until the herbs are small.
Anoint the black candle with the oil.
Sprinkle your herb mixture on the candle until it's covered to your satisfaction.
Put the candle in the candle holder.
Write down what you want to leave behind in the past year. Personally I like to concentrate on only the three most important things.
Put some black pepper on the paper and fold it closed, preferably folding it away from you.
Light the black candle and recite the following (either out loud or in your head, whatever you are most comfortable with)
I leave the past where it belongs, and welcome a fresh start
I release all that holds me back, and does not serve my heartI replace my overthinking, with peace and harmonySuch is my magickal energy, so mote it be
Take your folded pieces of paper and burn them in the flame of the candle.
Let the pieces of paper burn completely on the heat-safe dish/bowl/cauldron
Let the candle burn completely down as well
With everything burnt, you can now dispose of the paper remains. You can either throw it in the trash or blow it out in the wind.
And that is my ritual for the Beaver Moon! Like always, feel free to take inspiration. I highly encourage mixing and matching things so that they fit you and your practice! If the herbs I mentioned don't feel right, choose others that fit your needs. The colour of the candle, same story. Make the craft fit you, feel comfortable to you!
I hope this ritual helps you and gives you an idea what to do for the full moon tomorrow! Blessed be!
I think simmer pots are one of my favourite ways to cast a spell, together with spell jars and candle magic. They're relatively easy, make your home spell amazing and are incredibly versatile.
This particular one is for cleansing your home from negative energies and to bring all the good things in.
Ingredients:
Moon water - for magical properties
Apple - for protection
Chamomile - for purification, good luck and prosperity
Cinnamon - for prosperity and protection
Lavender - for purification
Orange - for hope and positivity
Rosemary - for peace and protection
A bay leaf - To set your intention
You can mix and match these however you like. The only ingredient I use in every one of my simmer pots, and recommend to always use, is water with intention (any type of water like moon, sun, rain, storm, etc. Whatever matches your intentions).
The process:
Set your intentions very clear in your mind
Write your intention on the bay leaf
Add the moon water in the pot, then add your chosen ingredients
Add the bay leaf
Bring it to a boil and stir it clockwise to bring your intentions into your home
Reduce it to a simmer
You can either let the pot boil down until there is just a little bit of water left, or top it off with water for as long as you like. Personally I do either of these, completely on intuition.
I hope you like this simmer pot recipe! It is one of my favourite ways to cleanse my home. I hope it inspires you to do your own simmer pot. Blessed Be!
The Beaver Moon gets its name from the fact that beavers actively build their winter dams at this time of the year. The beaver is a symbol of hard work, industriousness and dedication. The energy of the Beaver Moon can be used to bring ideas to reality, clean up clutter, to overcome procrastination, cultivate healthy habits or to let go of negative energy.
