Turns out there’s a study out there that shows people who are lonely are more likely to view fictional characters/people they don’t know personally (for example, content creators/musicians) as friends. You know, parasocial relationships?

There’s also something called a “loneliness epidemic” which has been occurring since around 2022.

I wonder if there’s a connection between the loneliness epidemic and the rise of parasocial relationships, leading to an increase of toxic behaviors in communities such as animated series, video games, and music.

Seriously, the shipping wars of My Hero Academia, the rage when someone proposes a FNAF theory that is unpopular, or trying to touch musicians on stage like you’ve been friends for their entire life…this can’t be a coincidence.
