...there was a kid, a friend of mine, who could have stopped it from happening. He must have known ahead of time that the gang was planning to ambush me, because he was hidden nearby, watching. I saw his hiding spot...I knew he was there the whole time. I tried to call out to him for help after the gang had left, but...he left me there in the mud and the rain.

Poor kid. He was probably freaked out.
