Next Full Moon: Nov. 22, 2018

Knows as the “Busy Beaver”, “Frost”, “Trading”, “Mourning”, or “Snow” Moon.

This is the last full moon before the Winter Solstice, so if you haven’t completed your change from the two moons, now if your last chance.

The last full moon before the Winger Solstice is named the “Mourning Moon”, so the month switches. The last remaining plant life will start to die out now, mourn for them, for in the spring when they return, they will fill you with rejuvenating energy.

Now is when the American Beaver is most active, finishing their dams to protect their lodges from the frigid winter waters. Build a mental/metaphysical dam to protect yourself from the drab of winter, and those who might harm.

Next full moon: Oct. 24, 2018

Known as the “Hunter’s, Travel, Dying Grass, Blood, or Sanguine” Moon.

Every three years, this moon takes the name of “Harvest Moon” from September’s full moon, because it is the closest to the equinox.

As the temperature lowers, and the days grow shorter, the hunter must prepare for the harsh winter to come, slaughtering and preserving the meat for the months ahead. Although you might not be out hunting this full moon, you can still prepare yourself for the snow-months.

Take this time to banish any negativities that may freeze in place during the idle months of winter, a spell involving the element of fire to keep the passion between you and a lover (or friend) burning bright even through all the ice and snow.

Pentacle of Mabon

Here’s something I made just now, The Pentacle of Mabon: Spirit Of Autumn. I’ll be charging it tonight, and more on the nights of the full moon. I’ll carry it around with me for the rest of autumn, reminding me of the changes I want to undergo, and the changes the world around me undergoes. I’ll break down the symbolism in a later post (reblog).

A Quick Introduction to the 8 Pagan Holidays, or Sabbats, of the Year

Dates may Vary due to year, and multiple sources I have found have different dates

Yule (December 20-23): The winter equinox and when days become shorter. People begin to make preparations for the cold months and decorate trees with many cold weather foods to symbolize the continument of life in winter.

Imbolc (Febuary 2nd): “The promise of Spring” this is a time typically when sheep would begin to lactate, meaning they were pregnant. A time of celebration for the coming spring and crops and animals would be blessed. The goddess Bridgid would be honored as she symolizes fertility.

Ostara (March 19-22): The spring equinox and a celebration of the beginning of spring! Some easter traditions come from Ostara.

Beltane (May 1st): The festival of Fire and Mayday, the halfway between spring an summer, the weather is getting warmer for most! A time to be greatful for the gifts of Spring and many celebrate on Beltane Eve with big bonfires and on my first with flower crowns and may poles. Beltane is considered by many to be a holiday where the veil between worlds is very thin.

Litha (June 19-23): The summer solstice! Days are long enough for work and play and many announce engagements during this time and many continue for a full Harvest.

Lughnasadh(August 1st): Symolizing the first harvest and the midway point between summer and autumn. When many get married and celebrate this time with breads and fruits made available by the harvest. A time for gratitude.

Mabon (September 21-24): The autumn Equinox and the holiday we are enjoying right now! A celebration of the harvest and preparations for the winter soon to come. Celebrates abundance and the good reaped from labor.

Samhain (Oct 31- Nov 1): ITS HALLOWEEN! Annnd the witches new year. One of the most important holidays where the veil between worlds is thin. A time to honor loved ones, friends, familiars, and pets who have passed on. A very powerful time where one may focus on guidance, clearance of negative energy, and the beginning of a positive new year.

The Harvest Moon is the closest moon the Autum Equinox, making it the perfect moon to meditatate of pray to if you are about to make or go through a great change in your life. As summer turns to fall, fire to earth, so do you. The seeds of change you planted through the year(s) are ready to be harvested just as the winter wheat is ready to be harvested now.

This moon is called the Harvest Moon because it is the brightest all year, lighting the fields so farmers can harvest their crop late into the night, just as it lights the path of change for you.

Autum is the perfect time to work with spells for the earth, including earth or crystals, especially during this full moon (less so with the October full moon, but still good since it is still Autum) since Autum is the season of Earth (dry and cold).

How to Read Candle Flames

Hey witches! This is a little post on candle scrying, and how to interpret the flames, especially before casting a spell. Begin by lighting your candle and getting into a meditative state. Once you are calm and your mind is quiet, look at the flame. Use this guide to interpret the flame.

A Strong Flame: This indicates that power and energy are going into your desire for manifestation. When a figure candle is used, a strong flame generally means that the person represented is winning, angry, or using authority over another. When two figure candles are present, the higher and stronger flame represents authority over the other.

A Weak Flame: This can show that you are facing heavy opposition and must redo the magic several times to overcome the power you are facing. The weak flame can also indicate, on a figure candle, that the subject is losing the battle. The weak flame that goes out means that you’ve missed your target altogether, start over.

A Jumping Flame: This is an attention getter. It can indicate raw emotions along with explosions of energy.

Rainbow Flame: If your flame is composed of various colors this indicates that there are outside influences at work that may be beyond the power of the questioner. Colors can also show that the question may be best answered at a later date. The factors involved may need a change to develop and evolve for a clearer view of what may occur.

Direction of Flame Movement

North: On a waxing moon, something physical is manifesting.

East: Something mental is manifesting.

South: Your energy is strong, and is good for spell casting. In love matters, you can expect love that doesn’t last too long.

West: Emotional aspects. A good sign of success and love.

Direction of Smoke

Northern Movement: Something physical is manifesting. You will have to work for what you wish to achieve.

Eastern Movement: Something mental is manifesting. Think things through and have patience.

Southern Movement: Something intense and short lived is manifesting. Success comes rapidly and with intensity.

Western Movement: The manifestation of strong magic intervention. The issue is too emotional. You are too involved. Step away for a time. Clear your thoughts.

If you have any spirits, they may converse through the candle’s sound:

Infrequent Noise(Soft): Pure thoughts, intimate conversation.

Frequent Noise(Mild): An authority figure giving orders or directions.

Frequent Chatter(Strong): Arguments, quarrels or loud disagreements.

Sunday - The Sun - Solar power, success, personal empowerment, material wealth, health, beginning anew. 

Monday - The Moon - Lunar power, purity, spiritual cleansing, astral work, divination, psychic ability.

Tuesday - Mars - Physical power, passion, sexuality, drive, ambition, achievement, masculine power, activate protective talismans, reverse hexes and psychic attacks.

Wednesday - Mercury - Knowledge, money, communication, the arts, change, acceptance, adaptability.

Thursday - Jupiter - Luck, growth, fulfillment, worldly power, justice, authority, health, and prosperity. (Mercury brings quick cash, but Jupiter governs the long term accumulation and preservation of wealth.)

Friday - Venus - Fertility, love, money, prosperity, healing, charm, goodness, blocking, glamour, self-care, feminine power.

Saturday - Saturn - Binding, banishing, stopping, ending, loss, renewing, transforming, protection.
