The danger in starting a fire | Marcus & Bellatrix
“Hearts racing, palms sweating, the tantalizing feeling of sitting on the edge of one’s patience waiting for the sweet promise of release. Heightened senses and slow burning desire compared with frantic emotions and a fight or flight knee jerk reaction. Lust is so provocative and exciting. Yet the power of having someone truly fear you is quite intoxicating in itself. The question I find interesting is not which is preferable but which is the most potent. Do people respect their own fears or their desires the most? Which compulsion is easier to resist? What do you say? What draws you in most? I find myself rather curious all of a sudden. You see I crave so much more than sedation. I want the fucking world and I don’t care if that means watching it burn at my feet. I’ll wear a crown of ash and bone before I accept our world as it is. I’ve spent hours sitting at the same desk resenting my existence and watching a clock tic my life away seconds at a time.”
Bella studied him. Her mind and body began a two sided war, on one side was her body. Lust being pulled from her as sweet as harp strings, plucked and played, swaying into his rhythm. Her body wanted nothing more than to cymbal crash into him, pounding bodies thrusting a booming bass drum, vocal moans the harmony of them. Sex is after all a physical action making music like an orchestra of two. The Lust he spoke of was entrancing, the need to scream, to sing from his actions a need pulsing within her. Her body was traitorous, it wanted to mold itself to the shape of M’s arms. To know nothing but his skin on it’s own. Bella was sure their combined skills would provide a symphony that most of London would be able to hear.
Her mind however was a little more cynical. This was a man who truly believed what he was saying, and he was right, Bella had been through enough man meetings for the ‘I want the world’ act to seem moot. It never lasted. The world was going to burn, but it was never men like Marcus who burned it. There was always some line they wouldn’t cross. Most it stopped at the murder of children, ironically of all the things Bella was capable of, even children were beyond her morals. Only Her Lord would be capable of such violence, such horror. The crown of Ash and Bone would more likely contain Marcus’s ash rather than the other way around. To watch the world become nothing, to be the one to light the match, you must have no regret. Nothing can be too far. Bella had known Marcus in their teenage years, when her Lord was killing puppies, Marcus was studying how to nurture Mandrakes. As large as his drive and ambition, he couldn’t actually go through with it. None of them ever could. Bella’s chamber was always the test of ambition, nothing shakes your faith more than killing a muggle in the most lengthy and stylistic way possible with and without magic.
“I’ll believe it when I see it, you know me. Proof is in the pudding, puddin’. Ambition is valuable to the cause, and to me…” She licked her lips, eye contact never breaking. “Fear is easiest to succumb too, most do in the end. Fear is the crumble of men. Desire is the wicked mistress of actions. You’d be surprised how much more my tit’s can find out than my knifes. Wait, I’m sure that wouldn’t surprise you, you’ve met both, and I know which of the two you prefer.” Bella adjusted her top, giving a little shimmy, causing her breasts to jiggle for effect.
“Delicious are they not? An aphrodisiac? It must be taking effect on me already then my nerves are aflame, just like they used to be when we…”
Bellatrix giggled, their life in Hogwarts was certainly adventurous. “I remember several instances where aphrodisiac weren’t necessary. When you were under me, over me, on me…..” She bite her lip. “Yess, several moments.”
“I’m glad you like them. Some people find them to be an acquired taste. I for one am more than happy to take advantage of everything Mother Nature has to offer us. To feel like fucking with the oceans zest on my tongue. What else is life for if not to enjoy the pleasures it has to offer?”
Marcus was a pleasure she wanted to be offered at the moment, ripping his clothes off right then and there was spinning through her mind. “Life? Life is for duty, love and sex. Death is for peace, don’t you think?”
“People will do far more for desire than they will for fear. Both are primal at their core; but man will suffer great depths in order to soar. Enticement certainly is a strong mistress.” He paused for a moment to cleanse his palette with the fresh cool water they had been served. “I respect my fears but I encourage my desires. Fear is boring, lust and pleasure is not. A healthy mix of the two however can make things very interesting indeed.” He suddenly found himself wondering what it would be like to kill a man. To hold the balance of another’s life in his very hands. A giddy sense of excitement bubbled within his stomach as he pictured light fading from a frantic gaze. To see fear immortalised in a glass stare would be quite something indeed. Perhaps Bellatrix was too dangerous a drinking partner for him. Thoughts like this were not supposed to cross his mind. “You’re tempting me to think about more than just sex Bellatrix.” His voice was low, tone darker than it had been moments ago. Marcus was finished with playing second rate cop. He’d finished struggling to fix deals and get himself out of every little bad situation he found himself in. Marcus had been living in fear for so long he had forgotten what it meant to feel true excitement and desire. How could he have been so blinded? “Thank you.” He said, expressing his gratitude towards her for his revelation.
“Acquired tastes are often the most delectable and I’m sure you’ll come to find that my palette is most attuned to the finer pleasures.” He showed her a sly smirk, his eyes lighting up as he spoke. “If I may?” He asked, though he did not wait for her to answer as he beckoned over a waiter. Marcus proceeded to place an order for a rather expensive bottle of white wine that was known amongst the higher classes to pair quite excellently with seafood, particularly oysters. “I don’t expect you to add this to your tab Bellatrix, but if you would like to then I’ll have to insist you allow me to take you out for our next experience.” The waiter returned with the wine and two glasses, pouring them each a hearty measure before dismissing himself.
Marcus picked up his glass, swirling the wine around in the crystalline goblet. “Is that all you imagine on your tongue?” He asked, licking his lip and meeting her gaze before raising the glass for a toast. “To pleasure.” He said simply, waiting for their glasses to clink together before taking a modest sip of the wine.
He savoured the flavour of the first course as he contemplated her statement. The parallels of life and death was something he often contemplated. Tilting his head to the side, he edged closer to her, dropping his voice an octave lower. “Death is freedom and life is our chain. Whether we are chained by duty, love, sex or strife in the end is irrelevant. We live our lives shackled by some cause until that impulse is no longer. Nothing is. I suppose that kind of emptiness is peace, when in our waking lives we are restricted by so many mundane things that it makes me sick to think of it all.” Marcus’ eyes grew dark but he laughed, picking up his glass and taking a noticeably larger gulp of the wine this time.
“Do you consider peace attractive?” Marcus asked, curiosity gripping him. He was curious as to what her opinion would be on the matter. Personally he found peace to be a rather unrealistic concept as no man could ever truly strive for it when the world was fuelled by conflict. Yaxley could simply not see the world settling into a tranquil state of harmony and goodwill. All he could see was fire and suffering, the ashes of which would form the foundations of a future he dreamed of.
“Most men don’t realise the cold truth of our existence. They stumble aimlessly from petty desire to petty desire with no real drive or ambition. I want the best because what else is there to have? Death is to be our promised peace so I’m happy to let it be just that and while I’m still breathing, I’m going to fucking ruin anyone that crosses me until I get what I want.” Marcus finished his little speech with a toothy grin. “Ah, the main course has arrived!” He announced, moving his napkin to his lap. His waiter placed a steaming plate of lobster in front of Bellatrix before he placed a dish in front of Marcus. “Bon appetit,” he said bowing low before leaving them to enjoy their food.
“This creatures cage was the ocean and ours is the world. It’s funny how far the bars travel when we choose not to see them.” He plucked up his fork and tapped the crimson red shell of his lobster before sampling some of his meal. “His freedom in exchange for my pleasure.” He mused savouring the flavour. “Probably the very train of thought that inspires the men I’m supposed to lock behind bars, no?” Marcus was what Bellatrix think to this side of him. He was supposed to be charming and professional. A witty and cunning individual that knew exactly how to get his own way. Yet this dark, cynical side of him was in full force and it bled through the mask he was so adept at wearing. The move he stagnated, the more the cracks fissured. Marcus hated the world the way it was and he would not make the same mistakes his father had. Marcus would change things.
“I hope the lobster is satisfactory. I have to admit I felt a little nervous taking charge of your menu.” Marcus winked playfully, his comment half in jest but with a kernel of truth to it. Bellatrix was a dangerous woman and he wished to impress, not insult her. He hoped she found his choices sophisticated and enticing, just like he hoped she might find him. From what he could observe she remembered their past fire together just as vividly as he did. He just wondered how far her memories stretched to form an impression of the man that sat before her now. “More wine?” He asked politely, noticing that the both of them could do with a little top up.
Never again | Marcus & Marlene
“I do have a great arse, thank you for noticing,” she replied cheekily. “A girl does like to know her efforts are appreciated and all.” Finishing her drink, Marlene collected the empty glasses and set them aside to be cleaned. She wasn’t exactly a neat freak but she did her best to keep things tidy while at work.
She grinned as his stomach growled and collected his menu and returned it to where it belonged. “Wise decision, I think. I’ll get your beer and put that order in for you. Shouldn’t be long.”
Her knuckles rapped the bar twice before she walked away, returning shortly there after with his beer before retreating again to tend to the other customers. There were a few frenzied minutes of topping everyone up and entering new orders, but she managed to get everyone what they needed before Marcus’ food was ready. This time when she went back to him, it was with a steaming plate of shepherds pie to set in front of him.
“Here you are, then. Ought to take the edge off. Can I get anything else for you?”
Marlene brought the shepherds pie over to him quickly-or at least it hadn’t seemed as if he had been waiting long for his food. Truth be told he couldn’t be sure how much time his order had taken to make. Marcus had been lost in a haze of memories. Mistakes of the past rushing through his mind along with a flood of regrets and what ifs. The chorus of a life that could have been blurred past him as he sunk further into dark corners of his mind. For a moment Marcus had seen himself sitting at another bar inside someone else's skin. A genuine smile on his lips and a longing for nothing.
And yet here was this pie. A simple meat and gravy dish dragging him back to reality. Forcing him to deal with the moment. It was funny how simple things could do that to a man. The smell hit him and he mumbled something that sounded like thanks in her direction.
Picking up a fork, Marcus stabbed at the potato topping absently. He watched the steam burst free before considering her question. “Oh!” He exclaimed, slightly take aback that he had almost ignored her. “It looks great I have to say.” He added with a slightly sheepish undertone. That’s when she asked if he needed anything else. Part of him knew it was just part of her job. She was a bartender and he was a customer. Yet something pulled him forward, he felt the familiar longing for something more. The auror met her gaze “company is all I really need right now.”
He plunged the fork into the pie and took a bite, savouring the flavour of the meal before swallowing. “Not bad for pub grub.” He teased, calling over to her as she moved away to pour someone else a drink. His lips pulled up into a comfortable smirk as his usual persona found itself at home in his skin once more. Marcus sat up straighter, taking a sip of his beer and eating more of his meal as Marlene served the other patrons. He watched her closely, noting the fluidity of her movements. This woman felt at home here, that much was obvious. He pushed away the feeling of envy bubbling within instead hailing her over once he had finished with his food. “It’s funny where we end up isn’t it?” He asked, feeling the food warm him up.
“This is the part where I’m supposed to say something engaging to keep you interested. I might have to come back with a clearer head for that part.”
Pearl Jam | Arthur & Marcus
Ah. The idea of a family estate was warming, he would be one of three to inherit a decent sized Weasley estate, his grandfather had bought the land way before the Weasley’s were blood traitors. “I’ll find the mp3′s and put them on a little USB so you can have them. Don’t worry, I’ll help you.” Muggle tech was his forte, his father had indulged his weird fascinations as a child and so he had spent his life in a decent amount of knowledge.
Art’s brow raised at Marcus’ phrasing, but he supposed that he wouldn’t exactly say the usual things if his head would’ve been cracked like that. “Uhm, I don’t-” He was cut across by the hiss of disgust shot at Marcus by said ‘dumpy woman’. Art raised his hands defensively as she shot them a pissed off look. “I think you handled that really well.” He grinned and clapped the other man on the back. “I was just on the way down to the canteen if you fancy a coffee? I mean, it’s not really a decision, because you really should sit down and eat something after your fall.” Arthur felt a little more sympathetic towards Marcus.
“USB, right.” Marcus replied with a cocked brow, as if the term was unfamiliar to him. He offered Arthur a warm half smile, tilting his head to the side slightly as he often did when he was being friendly. Marcus often feigned ignorance and mistrust of all muggle technologies but he knew they had power and potential. Knowledge always had power. Neglecting muggle advancement would be suicide. Yaxley simply could not afford to be stupid and cut himself off from a whole plane of information. Especially when plugging yourself in opened a whole new world of temptation. Still. It paid to keep his cards close to his chest. “It’s useful knowing someone who’s so on top of all the latest stuff. Whatever will the muggles come up with next?”
“What can I say? I’m a natural born ladykiller.” Marcus replied with a shrug, barely suppressing the amusement twinkling in his eye. He rubbed his head, ready to leave back for the office when Arthur suggested they grab a coffee together. “You know what,” He replied, turning back to face the taller man. “That sounds great.” He decided against rejecting the offer to scavenge the office. This evenings opportunity was gone now and trying anything now would be way too risky. A coffee however could help him unwind, perhaps formulate a new plan of action.
Pearl Jam | Arthur & Marcus
He was pretty surprised at the force of his stance, maybe those runs were starting to pay off a little bit more. The voice was familiar and as he met the eyes, he helped pull the man from the ground. “I’m really sorry!” Arthur wasn’t at his most sincere, he was attempting to conceal the smile that threatened to turn upwards on his lips. “Pearl Jam are an old muggle band, really good, I’ll send you some of the music.” Words were overflowing from his lips, he was stoked now, there was no real reason but bumping into a friend always was a good time.
“Uh… My headphones? I mean, yeah they play music?” His confusion at what Marcus meant leaked into his voice, was he concussed. “Are you alright mate? I am really sorry.” Arthur tried to meet his eyes so as to attempt to assess whether he was okay. “Maybe you’re a bit concussed?” He felt a bit guilty now for finding the fall hilarious.
“I believe I still have to listen to some of those other bands you recommended to me.” Marcus replied, bashfully running a hand through his hair. “Father isn’t overtly keen on installing wifi at the estate and well I never seem to be in my apartment much these days.” He continued, pushing the fact he had no internet capabilities available to him rather strongly. What Marcus did on the internet was no ones business. It was best people thought him internet illiterate than know the truth. See email was the perfect way to set up various deals and meetings. Anonymity suited him just fine.
“Headphones, yes.” Marcus replied nodding. Now that word was familiar. He really needed to learn more about these muggle technologies. The mobile phone had already allowed him to do such things his father could have only dreamed of. Well. At least if his father had the emotional capacity to dream he might have. “What? Yes I’m fine. Just cracked the old melon is all.” He replied laughing, though the chuckle turned hollow as the weird phrasing felt alien on his tongue. Marcus felt dirty for referring to his head as a melon. What the hell had got into him? “You didn’t happen to see a dumpy woman scurrying past did you? She forgot these back in the office.” He added snatching them up from the floor. I was trying to catch her when... Well you know.”
At that the woman bustled over to the pair, looking rather more flustered than Marcus had. “Dumpy woman?” She hissed, snatching the keys from him. “And here I was mistaken that you were a gentleman Mr Yaxley!” At that she turned on her heels and left them alone once more. Marcus watched her leave, dumbfounded. “Shit.” He muttered, scuffing the toe of his shoe guiltily on the floor. He’d have to make up for that tomorrow, maybe make sure he got her favourite cream cake in.
Send me a ♫ + a character/ship and I’ll tell you three songs I’d put on their playlist.
Pearl Jam | Arthur & Marcus
He had finished his office work for the evening but knowing that there would be quiet at home, he stuck around. Art needed the hum of noise to work and despite the work in the office, he still had a few more files to complete and fill out. Sticking in some headphones, he whacked on some Pearl Jam and strode to the elevator. It was empty and therefore he was happily dancing, with eyes closed, he heard the bing against the bass frequencies.
Dancing out of the elevator, he totally smacked right into someone, stepped back and yanked his headphones off. “I’m very sorry! Pearl Jam yanno, you just have to dance.” He watched carefully, his enthusiasm had probably not been the best route but he couldn’t help it, he was nearly finished with all of the back log of cases from Saturnalia.
At long last Marcus was ready. He had stayed at the office a little later than usual this particular evening, under the ruse that he was just so dedicated to doing things by the book that he would even eat into his own time to complete paperwork. Really Marcus was just waiting for his colleagues to vacate the premises. A smile attached to his lips but they felt dead, devoid of anything worth feeling. He had been so patient that he had even waved politely to the woman that had taken an eternity to find her belongings that were seemingly spread across the entire department. “Have a good evening!” He called to her as she strode away. The minute her back was turned Marcus rolled his eyes. Grumbling before turning to search the office for the very document this was all about. If only he knew who had been assigned to investigate the case relating to his latest off hours “assignment”. Turning to face the office desks he noticed the woman from earlier had forgotten a set of her keys. Cursing he snatched them up and ran to the door she has left through. Only she was no where to be seen. It was only a matter of time before she would notice they were missing. She would definitely be back for them and he couldn’t afford to have her stumble across him rooting through peoples desks. That just wouldn’t do.
Once reaching the lift, Marcus found himself colliding with a solid form. He fell to the ground, his mouth opening comically as he yelped. Banging his head on the marble floor, Marcus dropped the womans keys. He lurched upwards, on unsteady feet. Hearing an excitable voice chirp at him-and seeing a flash of red. Was it the woman? Why had she changed clothes? Marcus’ thoughts came in a flurry as he slowly realised what had happened. He’d simply ben knocked for six. “Fuck.” He groaned, reaching for his temple. He was ready to bite the head off of whomever had crashed into him with such ferocity when recognition descended over his features. “What’s a pearl jam?” He asked slowly before blinking. “Ah Arthur.” He said, waving a hand towards his ear. “They speak in there no?”
