âDo they have treatments for dogs that would help?â She asked, trying to keep some of the confusion and genuine interest out of her voice. There was so much here she felt behind on, but at least there were so many good things, like apparently medication to help with dog allergies. âIâve seen some stores sell fake flowers which areâŚ..well I donât know I donât really like them but it could be a way to have some in your house without bothering the dog.â She was sure her grimace was obvious though. The first time she discovered fake flowers she had been left with a lurking feeling of unhappiness for the rest of the day, the idea of someone wanting the beauty of a plant without having to deal with the life of it rather unsettling. âItâs nice that you have him though, a sort of companion you can always have around for company.â
Fox nodded with a small smile. âYeah, they have a few, I think.â His nose wrinkled a little at the idea of fake flowers. âThey're.. okay?â His statement sounded more like a question as he scratched at his head. âThey're just not the same, you know? I should probably get him some meds anyway. It'll be better for when we go out, especially to the park, you know?â He nodded again with a wide smile. âYeah,â his voice was soft and fond as he looked down at the dog who kept an eye on their surroundings, âhe's the best. It's nice to know that someone will always want me around.â
As soon as the words escaped him, he wished he could take them back. âI mean, it's just nice to have that-that companionship, like you said.â He cringed slightly on the inside but was able to keep most of it from his face. Why was he slipping like this? It wasn't even the first time that day he'd said more than he meant to. It was like there was nothing in the place where walls should have stood strong and sturdy. There seemed to be little filter but every sort of regret at his actions and words. Only part of his past's reflexes stuck with him.
