Calling the exploitation of women for domestic tasks 'unpaid domestic labor' is wrong. Maybe I'm too 'communist', but this is a framework unique to capitalism where ALL labor should be paid. Since we live in that capitalistic society there is labor we should get paid for but there are labor you have to do throughout the day that you cannot be paid for. No one is going to pay you for throwing out your trash or cooking something, but these are tasks you have to do to keep an environment and yourself safe.
Should stay at home moms be more appreciated over the household tasks that they do? Absolutely. Should the work load be split as evenly as the couple want in a dual income household? Absolutely. There are people who exploit the women in their lives for the household tasks while never participating.
However a lot of people keep calling it unpaid domestic labor and it brings the question of... how do you fix it? Paying stay at home parents? Having the government examine your home for who does the household tasks to increase their wages?
I get that it sucks when you do things around the house and no one appreciates you. That's me in my household, but it's not something I can get paid for. The people who get paid for doing household tasks is because someone richer doesn't want to bother with cleaning or cooking.
What we as feminists is make support structures for women to be able to stand up for themselves when they get exploited. We should also increase education on household tasks, like home ec, and how to split up tasks in a family. We should also increase support for child raising. Giving support to mothers by helping to take care of kids or helping a few times with cooking. Whatever you can spare to help lessen the load of the people around you. It takes a village to raise a child and capitalism wants to strip that away. A village is support and a village that supports each other is not a group that can be easily exploited by capitalism.
