if you think about it in a silly fanfic trope way and not in the more serious media analysis “Silverwood and how trauma affects people” way, the whole issue with the parasitic silverwood for Olruggio and Qifrey is kinda just reverse Hanahaki

instead of a plant growing out of heartbreak because of perceived unrequited love, for Qifrey the treeification happens when Olruggio accepts him and loves him despite everything, and in both cases memory erasure is part of the cure

in Hanahaki the “infected” person gives up their memories/feelings if they get the plant removing surgery, meanwhile in Oufrey canon Olruggio gives up his memories to keep Qifrey on edge enough not to go full tree

What Olruggio does as "part of his job": Keep the girls from getting sick, comment on teaching approaches, enforce meals and bedtimes, teach his own moral and practical lessons, use magic to make sure everyone is warm and cozy at night. What Olruggio doesn't do as part of his job: report any forbidden or suspicious activity from Qifrey or his apprentices.
