Surprise of his own follows her surprise. Though not all royals stoop to gossip, news travels quickly to all corners of the castle. A new arrival is important news. They have not crossed paths until now, but Kaito knows her by name and her unfamiliar appearance is the link between the clues.
The next statements from her tug at his heart. He wants to offer comforting words, but not all are receptive to them. Many take it as pity that they do not want. āBeing hopeful is never a bad thing, Merli-san. Thereās no guarantee that she wonāt turn up again eventually. He owes her that much at the very least. The elder Vocaloid is tossing ideas about in his mind, deciding what would work best, when blue eyes lock on certain parts of her outfit. Namely the design on her chest, but not wanting to appear rude, he shifts his gaze to the matching designs on either sleeve.
"I see you like butterflies." This narrows down the thought pattern for ideas.
She smiled at his words. Such kind things are rarely said to her- Though she doesn't hate the feeling.Ā
"I suppose, if I cannot convince you otherwise."
She didn't mind being bought things, of course, but she had just met him. She didn't want him to feel like she had to make her feel at home; just being spoken to made her feel like she finally belonged (somewhere other than her kingdom back home).Ā
"I do enjoy butterflies, in fact- It's something that connects me to my home."
She looked down at her outfit, seeing the butterflies adorning every inch of her outfit. Now it seemed very obvious, and almost obsessive. She lifted her arm holding the baton-wand with a butterfly on the end, flicking it slightly to bring a butterfly or two.
"This is one of the only creatures that exists in both the Fairy World and here..."

The final question had been planned before the realization of the girlās identity, but now it dually applies to the original intent and the princeās slip-up; not welcoming her upon her arrival.
She smiled, a little halfheartedly. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Kaito-san. Yes, I am Merli- I'm... A little surprised that you've heard of me, to be perfectly honest." She bowed slightly.
Even though there was disappointment in her heart, she knew it was simply her wishful thinking. She knew Aoki wouldn't just appear, no matter how hard she wished.
"Oh, it wasn't your fault. You don't need to worry about doing anything for me... I'm just... A little too hopeful sometimes, I suppose. I haven't seen her in years... Not by choice, either."
