what’s it called when you’re so disconnected from reality that cold water doesn’t feel like anything and you can barely taste food anymore

wondering how dfw would feel about me reading ij on my iphone…… i’m sorry but the Actual book is heavy and the ease at which i can *flip* between my page and its respective footnote in the errata on my cellular device is just what i need to make it a more accessible read. i’m not carrying Actual ij around bc 1) it somehow adds 15lbs to whatever bag im carrying and 2) i unfortunately care about looking like a femcel in public and don’t want to be seen reading it or asked about it or anything
but maybe somewhere in this is the whole point and i’m a fool for falling victim to the desire for convenience…. and i doordash sometimes…. forgive me david

Fernando Pessoa, from The Book of Disquiet
Text ID: By thinking so much, I became echo and abyss. By delving within, I made myself into many.
Simone de Beauvoir, from Diary of a Philosophy Student: Volume 1, 1926-27
Text ID: I observe how much I have matured since last year despite my belief that I was losing myself, how something strong was born from the painful experiences survived and from the numerous minutes that I believed were wasted.
So much of what is “cringe” is just… earnest.
what if you made an honest expression of genuine human emotion and someone saw it!
If it makes you feel any better, he hated it too.
This is the funniest and saddest sentence I've read all week
