it's all so tiresome
To be around someone who understands me. To wrap my wings around them, admire them with all my eyes. To worship and love them and to get the same in return. But love is scary and complicated.
What bird am I?
Taken from a conversation I had with a questioning bird, posted here for other birds' benefit. Their question was, "How did you determine your theriotype?".
"I had it kind of easy. I have been around seabirds most of my life- terns, gulls, pelicans. Lived less than a hundred yards from the beach during my uni days. I first knew that I wanted to fly, that I needed to fly, and started feeling, knowing the presence of my wings. The wings part was tough: as a creature with aphantasia, I had a hard time visualizing their shape. I feel that if you are able to do that and be confident in the shape of your wings, you can use that as a baseline for identifying the type of bird that you are. Gulls have very distinct wings. Gulls have a very distinct personality- highly social, nonconforming, powerful in their resilience and intuition. They're pretty, too. I'd be lying if I said I don't like the body format. The sleek elegance of a raven, the vibrant plumage of a parrot, or the powerful talons of an eagle are some bodily characteristics I am sure you thought of already. Personalitywise, you need to strongly examine your own, to point of being able to distill it into bullet points. Falcons are known for their grace, corvids in general their intelligence. What are you, indeed?
Ultimately, it's about heavy introspection, research based on the things you found out about yourself, and should you finally have a good candidate, and if you can manage it (mine is a common species, after all)- in person interaction with that species. In your heart of hearts, it should finally click, and you should understand. I feel I should also remind you that there's creatures out there with multiple theriotypes. I'm not one of them, and I don't know how creatures make that realization, but it's something to keep in mind."
[NB- if you do know how creatures make that realization, please put it in replies/reblogs so I can help inform creatures better. Thank you!]
please enjoy this eastern grass owl. owls are so important to me please observe him
How I be lookin at mfs when they say “you're only human”
Calling all angelkin, godkin, devinekin, aviankin, dragonkin, and any other flying kin out there: here, have some photos from my "pictures of super cool clouds I took on my flights to the main land" collection. My treat :3
Hope you enjoy <3
Sincerely, your fellow flying creature, Cadence ^w^
Lonely folk are kinda miserable to talk to. They only want to hear themselves speak- no interest in the creature they're talking to altogether. It's a shame, because you can see how self-defeating it is from the outside, but calling them out for the relationship being one-sided usually drives them away. Oh well. At least they're not flooding my inbox with obscure vtuber trivia anymore.
finished my little blackbird vrchat avatar! 🐦⬛✨ fun to use on both desktop and pc... pretty happy with this one! like the other avatars I've made so far, here's where you can log into the vrchat site and add it to your favorites to use it in game. I'll make a world for them, some day

Been a while eh? Haven't done much art recently and been in a bit of a slump but hey the one time I say 'you know what, I'm going to actually draw this thought' and well here we are.
Inspired by a modded minecraft survival me and my friends are playing. It adds origins and classes and you can probably guess what mine are (hint: it's in the title :P).
Fighting your therianthropy is precisely what will lead to a loss of control. If you dive in and accept it, you can learn how to truly be you. Scientists don't run experiments by thinking about them - they need DATA. If you screw up, you can adjust after the fact if need be. Instinct has never steered me wrong, even if it has led to pain and sadness at times. I would rather be real than live a human lie. I've accepted the contract of life - pain is assured and death is coming to all of us, but so is love and everything I find beautiful.
All this animal stuff may seem serious for a lot of therians, and I too may seem like I have a hard exterior when discussing it, but behind literally everything I've said...
(Art I commissioned from Flemaly for the original graphic novel version of Tenera)
...is "tenera" - and the basis for the story behind my game. This closeness is what I want in life, as a wolf. It's not why I'm a therian and came about years after I awakened, contextualized through my wolf identity. It's simple, really, but such things are not often spoken of in the community. It's not necessarily therianthropy but it arose from it. For this alone, I would spend my life in neuroscience research, to find a way for myself and those I call my pack to become wolves someday, or die trying (though I think I have a reasonable chance, or I wouldn't bother - and it would pave the way for some kind of "species therapy" for all therians, through consciousness transfer or virtual reality). Because it's beautiful to me, and I think it's worth it, even if failure is what I meet. I need no other reason for my conviction. I could never lose control of my therianthropy; it will always lead me back here, to this singular truth. I am no savage, not if I'm not given a reason to be. I'm a wolf.
And I'm sure some would argue that that's a waste of a life and that this IS "losing control", but it's not to me. That's my decision to make and mine alone. Leaving some kind of vain human legacy and living a human life in a world that will be forgotten by all is strange and terrifying to me. Whoever wants to contest all of this is probably just jealous I've found meaning in life and can screw off. I trust that my path will lead me there someday. Those who understand are welcome to be a part of my life while I'm here. On this, I will not compromise.
May you find whatever it is you're searching for.

you need to get it out of your mind that psychosomatic illness is just “making up symptoms” when it’s actually much more like your body is being actively poisoned by chemicals released from your brain
if you’re so stressed that you’re puking your guts up every morning, are unable to eat or keep anything down, you can’t look at light without feeling infinitely worse and feel exhausted and in pain all the time (or whatever your particular stress induced symptom set is) you’re not just feeling like that because you’ve willed it into being. your body is begging for relief from the constant barrage of stress hormones and it requires the fundamental source of stress to go away, not just distracting yourself from the symptoms
just because the root is psychological doesn’t mean the result isn’t an entirely physical process.
Whispers in the wind—feathers fill the sky with grace. Paradise blooms yet.
like give the other corvids some love
This is blowing up, and I’m seeing several misconceptions in the tags. So let’s clear that up!
Corvids are birds belonging to the family Corvidae. It’s a term based on phylogeny.
Several people are saying I’m forgetting starlings and grackles, neither of those species belong to corvidae. There are also some birds that used to be classified under corvidae (Aussie magpies and jayshrikes) that are no longer classified as corvids.
Below is a list (with pictures!!!) of all birds currently recognized as part of the in the Corvidae family (according to birds of the world, a reputable scientific organization).
These are organized by genus, Corvus is one of the most well known corvid genera.
LOOK HOW DIVERSE CORVIDAE IS!!!!
Another common mistake that I see made often - the Australian magpie is not a true corvid or related closely to other magpies; they’re related more closely to butcherbirds, however, they retain a lot of corvid-like traits like their playfulness and intelligence.
Also with carrion crow and hooded crow they tend to not overlap in their ranges except at the edges, so some places will still call them the same bird but most I believe now say that they are two different birds. Either way, hybrids exist!
Trans fems literally have the most grabbable hips in existence
Can we please aim to consider those who don't prefer anthropic terms here in the nonhuman community? Not every nonhuman is comfortable with "people" or "person". Idk I see it so often, sadly most often on posts or in spaces that are meant to uplift or affirm. I highly recommend "being" or "individual" for general purposes.
Notes under the cut.
Humanity/nonhumanity is just the humanity's oldest way of othering others (I recommend looking into the vocabulary of slavery among other atrocities they've committed). We should not be afraid of saying that this dichotomy needs to be abolished, for their own sake as well as ours.
Vocabularywise, I highly recommend the term "creature". Most will understand what you mean.
The desire to know and be known.
It is what it isn't.
