I remember when I was about 12, I watched a show on TLC that followed people as they got somewhat uncommon medical procedures.
There was one episode with a trans woman getting different gender-affirming operations, including breast implants. It showed the procedure, and (what I found so fascinating that it's stuck with me for decades), as soon as the doctor put the implant in, a censor blur popped up on the nipple.
And you just know there was a meeting between the TLC lawyers and the editors and producers of the show to discuss what the difference was between a "man nipple" (can be shown) and a "woman nipple" (no no must obscure, 'tis naughty). And they decided that as soon as the implant goes in and the nipple has more mass behind it, that's the moment when it becomes a woman's nipple and must be hidden to comply with TV rules.

Way of the Kensei Monks, specifically, might be as close as DnD can get to cultivators, for MDZS at least (Though it would also depend on each person's fighting style). For example, sword glares would be a result of the "One with the Sword" feature.
Cause of this, I think Wei Wuxian is at least a level 11 Way of the Kensei monk. Then he loses his golden core, so he has to restart his levels. I think he might keep one level of monk? So he keeps the weapon proficiencies he gets from it, he just cant use them as well as he used to, and he doesn't get access to Ki.
So before he dies he's got

6 Levels of Bard, College of Spirits: Spirit Session feels analogous to Empathy, and he also needs to be a bard so he can use a flute as a spellcasting focus
10 Levels of Wizard, School of Necromancy: he would have the Inured to Undeath feature cause of his time in the burial grounds, but he wouldn't be all the way at level 14, cause he can't control undead that someone else commands with the Yin Tiger Tally
He probably alternated between bard and wizard levels, and he definitely got the first level of bard while studying at the Cloud Recesses.
Also after he resurrects in Mo Xuanyu, I think he'd be considered a Reborn. Very similar levels, since Mo Xuanyu also trained as a cultivator, but got kicked out before he made too much progress. But it could be interesting if Mo Xuanyu took 2 levels in Wizard, School of Necromancy, in secret, so he could resurrect Wei Wuxian. So then if he gains Mo Xuanyu's classes, Wei Wuxian's levels post resurrection would look like this:
2 Levels of Monk: he can access Ki again through Mo Xuanyu's golden core, but MX has a very weak core, so he doesn't

For Lan Wangji, we could consider the Guqin a specialty form of weapon that the Lan clan uses: the strings can be honed with Ki to become razor sharp sort, and the Lan Clan may specifically all take at least one level in bard to use the guqin to channel magic (which is how Wei Wuxian got a level of Bard at the Cloud Recesses). So I think Lan Wangji has 17 levels of Way of the Kensei Monk, and 3 levels of Bard, College of Spirits, since Rest, Evocation, and Inquiry all fall in line with the Guiding Whispers and Tales from Beyond features.
Pick exactly one moment from mdzs where you think a love confession would've made the biggest and/or funniest change to the story. I'll go first.
I'm picking 3 seconds before wwx punched jzx. I think that if lwj hit him with a "I love you" it would've stun locked wwx that he wouldnât have punched jzx at all.
If he followed it up with a "I want you. Carnally" he might've stun locked everyone in a ten foot radius
The moment wwx played wangxian recognizable with his 5-mins-craftsed flute (it could barely make a sound, but he's skilled enough that lwj recognized it without any issues)
Lwj's grabbing at wwx's wrist and saying I love you.
Wwx spends the rest of the plot panicking about being in the body of lwj's lover
my favourite mdzs/cql character dynamic will always always be jiang cheng and lan wangji. born to be mortal enemies forced to be in laws is the funniest relationship of all time. that brief establishing shot in cql episode 2 of them sitting in a tea house at different tables, facing away from each other, not talking is like a sister to me. wei wuxian's death turned a mutual disdain into outright hatred and now sixteen years of boiling rage down the drain because wei wuxian had to get RESURRECTED like an IDIOT and now they have to MAKE NICE and try their utmost not to THROW THINGS at each other at FAMILY DINNERS. which they have now because LIFE SUCKS. such an unparalleled dynamic that i'll be thinking about until i die.
The legend says that the evil Yiling Laozu is a dark god of vengeance, death and greed. You may summon him by offering sacrifces of the finest alcohol and the bones from a freshly desecrated tomb and he will enact vengeance in your name or give you the power to bring your enemies to their knees; but the price to pay is steep, only the most desperate or the most foolish would seek his aid.
Others say that it's not that he is evil, but that his morality is incomprehensible to mere humans, he lives by his own set of rules and he can curse you with a bessing just as he might reward you with a curse.
In reality, he's just a mid-tier trickster god who only has one rule: be an asshole to others and he will be an asshole to you. It's not his fault that most people only come to him for petty or entitled reasons and he's long since run out of patience for others' stupidity. He's lowkey tired of having to re-bury so many bonesâseriously, who the hell came up with that?!â but, hey, at least he gets free booze.
Once in a while, though, he gets prayers from the truly desperate, who have been so outcast they don't feel like they deserve to pray to the "good" gods. Those prayers, he does his best to answer, but since they're comparatively few and come from the people whose voices society happily ignores, he stays infamous.
There is a second part of the legend, where the beautiful god of light, temperance, and of those who fight for justice is in an eternal battle to keep the Yiling Laozu in line, bringing light to combat his darkness, following his chaos to restore order. Every time they stumble upon each other, their fighting gets so fierce it's said it has caused earthquakes and tsunamis, diverted rivers and split mountains in two!
Yes, well, it's not *his* fault that Mr. Emperor of Heavens is so horny for him 24/7 that he'll just take him wherever the mood strikes him! Truly, if anyone knew what the illustrous Hanguang-jun was actually like, they would have to change his title to, like, Dick-bearing Lord or something.

he is very jealous of nhs, because wwx actually communicates with him, brainstorming and forming all sort of cool (read : dangerous) plans and going on adventures together, and did he gift him that super cool fan which moonlights as a weapon?!?! huh, better him than that jade block (nhs is crying, he's at his peak physical health, and he's being forced to use his brain to figure out politics with someone he thought was his best friend, who just turned out to be a traitor nhs didn't even notice wwx teaching him saber forms diguised as fishing until it happened he also loves the fan he was gifted for all the trouble he's been in turns out it is a weapon with different setting based on which angle it has been opened in. At least da-ge is happy about his progress. But he would very much like to be stopped being glared at by lwj, he is not interested in wei-xiong in that manner, please!)
one look at Wen Ning, and jc realises that he might actually be in trouble... lwj is a romantic interest (which won't ever happen as long as JC can prevent it from happening) and nhs is a friend, just friend (when he tried hinting that nhs and wwx might be good together, nhs friendzoned his entire sect) but Wen Ning? that little menace falls into little brother category, and jc can't scare him away any less than he can shoo the peacock off because wwx adores him (and Wen Qing is scary, jc does not want to meet the business end of those needles of hers) wq and jyl has their own sister vs sister arc before they realise that they can both had wwx as their didi (this is a little weird for me to write because in my mother tongue, didi means elder sister)
jc refuses to be jealous of the burial mounds when compared to lotus pier, that would be stupid but the height of stupidity is 185 cm, so...đđ

Time travel fic⊠but instead of Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji going back to just before the Cloud Recesses arc⊠they go back to their first meeting in Yiling when LWJ gave WWX his toy drum rattle and suddenly they both got all these adult memories of a life lived into adulthood and a family⊠but they donât really know how to communicate that as an adult because of being tiny so instead LWJ demands Wei Ying become his betrothed because itâs gonna happen anyways and Xichen thinks itâs the cutest shit ever but as soon as Wei Ying says his name Qiren is all âfuck okay, sure, Iâll hand him to the Jiang family and Wangji will forget about him within a yearâ only for them to travel to the Jiang sect once a year on the demands of Wangji and his never ending baby love for his Wei Ying and Qiren is all âfuck⊠this menace is gonna be my nephew in law⊠crapâ and has to accept it. Damn. He dropped the ball on this one he should have given Wei Wuxian to the nice Wen healing cultivators whoâs kids liked to play with WWX and LWJ. Damn.
jiang cheng time travel au but make it return by death (re:zero) style (time loop with a set checkpoint) wherein he is killed five years after wei wuxianâs death after one of the demonic cultivators he tortures to death curses him in return and he dies and goes all the way back to when wei wuxian rescued the wen remnants and has just started living in the burial mounds. but jiang cheng is extremely hateful towards wei wuxian, still too lost in his grief from his previous life and has undergone zero development and healing and so he pounces at this opportunity to prevent zixuan and yanliâs deaths by doubling down on his opposition of wei wuxian, projecting his five-plus years of boiling resentment into this already sensitive situation from canon. he pushes wei wuxian harder, is even more prejudiced against the wens, is even more rigid in his opinions. still just as easily manipulated by the sect leaders and incapable of viewing things rationally. this results in an even bigger fallout between him and wei wuxian and this time jiang cheng pushes the sects to rally against wei wuxian even faster before the qiongqi path ambush can take place. the siege is pushed up, wei wuxian and the wens are caught off-guard, jiang yanli and zixuan are horrified at whatâs going on, lan wangji stands up for wei wuxian like in canon but this time itâs even less effective because jiang cheng, the only person to have seen the people occupying the burial mounds, is relentless in his efforts to persecute them and wei wuxian. this time, a fight of a much greater magnitude takes place in the burial mounds (the nightless city massacre doesnât happen) and wei wuxian fights with all heâs got but in the end, he and the wens all die and guess what? jiang cheng dies with themâcaught in the collateral.
he wakes up, back to the same checkpoint as before. wei wuxian is in the burial mounds with the wens and now, he has to figure out a way to kill wei wuxian and the wens without him dying along. he goes through some more iterations of this, trying to get rid of wwx before the âmainâ tragedies can happen and by the fifth or sixth trial, heâs so fucking exhausted with himself. he canât understand what heâs doing wrong, where heâs lacking. so, this time, he decides to simply convince wei wuxian to give up the wens once more. this is back his canon actions, just with added hatred for wwx which is still carried overâjust worn out now. wei wuxian refuses, reminds him of his debts to the wens, and itâs back to square one. heâs missing something, he doesnât know what, but brute forcing his way didnât work, massacring people didnât work and now he needs to do something different. he goes to yanli and asks her how he can convince wei wuxian and yanli, ofc, tells him that that is impossible. wei wuxian wonât budge. the wensâ lives are important to him. heâs doing the right thing.
and at this point, jiang cheng needs to reckon with the fact that his violence hasnât solved one issue, has only caused more problems, has only exacerbated the wounds. if there is something that needs to be fixed, it has to start with his own self. all these lives of hatred that dictated his actions have to catch up to him, there has to be some guilt that is finally sparking after each life he spent betraying wei wuxian from the get-go, spearheading the siege without ever listening to wei wuxian or his opinions and forcing his will to make things better, the way he saw fit.
after this, his focus would shift to making wei wuxian give up the âdemonicâ path instead of making him give up the wens. it would take some more tries but i see jiang cheng actually learning something from all the lives he wasted and somehow learning about the golden core after going through the grating process of actually talking to wei wuxian without being a massive prick. in some lives, he gets to talk to yanli some more, in some others, wen qing rips him a new one and collectively, he begins to have a slow shift in perspective. and wei wuxian, being wei wuxian, is even able to offer him some empathy for all the memories he carries from his past lives.
idk how this would end. if jiang cheng would earnestly apologise and come to realise all of his wrongdoings and finally provide political support to wei wuxianâby speaking up when lan wangji and mianmian do (which would still not solve the issue, but it would be a start). or if return by death ends at some point and he is reverted back to his original circumstances, just this time with the full understanding of why he messed up and that he canât live on with such a resentful mindset anymore.
see, iâm not against a jiang cheng redemption fic but it needs to feel very very earned and the impetus has to be about jiang cheng taking accountability in a major way. and i also LOVE time travel au in other fandoms but in mdzs i think sometimes it can come across as... oh, wei wuxian could have just done this one thing and everything would be fine, he wasnât smart/strong/capable enough and that doesnât work for me. so for jiang cheng to realise just how difficult it is to save two people and to realise the lengths wei wuxian would go to protect the wens and to have him take all these lives to finally gets some semblance of a better result than canonâand only when he can respect wei wuxianâs cause and join him in finding a solution rather than singlehandedly wandwaving the complex net of issues awayâis very very appealing.

How funny would it be if WWX saw a Lan disciple being bullied by Jin-what's-his-face (the idiot who destroyed Jin Ling's gift on that cursed road, and led to the shijie's husband's or maybe just the peacock's death considering if he's been put through the bootcamp yet or not death) and was kind to him.
What if Su Shi is enamoured by the person who saved him from the Waterborne abyss, and won't even mention the humiliating loss of his sword in his attempt to be like LWJ?
WWX genuinely doesn't remember saving Su Shi, much less the embarrasing sword thing
SS is looking at this nobel person with stars in his eyes, at someone so humble, that he pledges his loyalty to WWX instead of JGY this time around. Because of the near hero worship he develops for WWX, and the way WWX is wary around LWJ further makes SS enamoured by WWX.
LWJ is devastated in his own way about someone else also falling for Wei Ying. He panics and ask JZX for help!!
LXC is fuming about some random no name (well, he knows Su Shi's name, but he's being petty) coming in between his didi as his zhiji >O
LQR is breathing deeply as he watches CSR's spawn tempt yet another Lan disciple with his wicked ways
