My own number just called me. I decided not to answer because I really donāt want to talk to myself right now. Leave a voicemail, alternate dimension me.Ā
Is it just me or is theĀ āremember meā checkbox on login screens always a damned dirty lie?
Or⦠conversely⦠a site will keep you logged in forever and youāre kinda like,Ā āHey, can you make sure Iām not a Russian robot a tad more often?ā
Outdoor kitty braves the elements in her stylish hoodie.Ā
Update: Thanks to a tip from @alex-l-h I have found more info about this stylish feline.Ā
Her name is Suki. She is a Bengal cat from Alberta, Canada.Ā
She is not just an outdoor kittyā¦
SHE IS AN ADVENTURER.Ā
She goes rock climbing.Ā
Mountain climbing.Ā
Which can make her a bit sleepy.
She enjoys a good leaf.
Or a good 50 leafs.Ā
She has a super cool human named Marti.Ā
Marti is a stellar photographer.Ā
And Suki is her faithful companion.Ā
Here is some cat pooping information you are probably interested in knowingā¦Ā
Where does Suki poop when you are outside or on the road? Suki uses her litter box while we are driving, so that just means having to pull over to clean it up if itās a #2. She doesnāt like doing her business when we are on the trails, but will eventually just go when she finds a suitable patch of ground. Make sure to bring a baggie to remove the poop from the trails, its good Karma!
Suki isnāt thrilled that people know about her pooping habits.Ā
BECAUSE SHE IS A VERY CLASSY KITTY, OKAY?
Now boop the nose!

It was just over a year ago when my beautiful, loving, friendly, happy kitty went missing and I still haven't gotten over it. I still have strong objections concerning the bathrooms in the Normandy. Even if we overlook the fact that every Shepard that ever sheparded definitely wandered into them at random points in time for no good reason (probably why no one ever used them to be honest), the layout is horrific. 0/10 would not travel space if that was my bathroom.
Over at Patreon and Society6 we have a little more privacy, thank you very much.
Trump: "America Will Never Be A Socialist Country"
For the hundredthĀ time, the US already has plenty of socialist policies.Ā
Weāve got roads and schools and fire departments, oh my.Ā
Trump seems to have this idea that people want to flip a switch and immediately start living strictly by the Karl Marx guidebook.Ā
He also doesnāt seem to realize how much socialism is already ingrained in our society. Socialism that he has benefited from all of his life.Ā
In reality, the Democrats in Congress just want to add a few more socialist programs to the plethoraĀ we already have. Something plenty of countries have done without catastrophe.Ā
Making sure people donāt die because they canāt afford insulin is not going to sink us into a dystopia.Ā Ā
Perhaps someday we will move away from the more toxic capitalist policies that are harming people, but I feel like we are still going to have a hybrid system long after Trump has kicked the KFC bucket.Ā
I feel like this was a decently written explanation about our mixture of political philosophiesĀ and Trumpās ridiculous aversion to incorporating more socialist policies into our nationās safety net.Ā
But Iām pretty sure I was totally outdone by a meme.Ā
Perhaps I should abandonĀ my strategy of long detailed essays and just meme that shit.Ā
This was the comment section on a PragerU video. It was titledĀ āMasculinity is not toxic!ā That sentence alone pretty much negates the entire video. No one is saying every masculine trait is bad or harmful.Ā
I have this weird notion that maybe I could change the mind of one of these folks. Just one. I just want to know that people are capable of that. But I think the folks that comment on a PragerU video are too far gone.Ā
My hope is that someone else reading what I said might find it convincing. Someone on the fence who isnāt sure what to think about all of this. Thatās usually who Iām speaking to. But it would be nice if I could change someoneās perspective directly just once.Ā
Also, I do think chivalry is antiquated and needs an update. I donāt want to make it sound like that isnāt an issue worth discussing. It just doesnāt make much sense in the context of toxic masculinity.Ā
Maybe we should hold open doors for everyone. Though, standing up for women when they enter the room is kinda weird to me. I didnāt know people did that for people who werenāt the Queen of England. In any case, no one Iāve encountered hasĀ ādestroying chivalryā very high on their list of priorities. I think it does make some people uncomfortable. And if we removed the gender component from it, we could just call it ābeing polite.ā
My main point is that his examples arenāt even close to resembling what toxic masculinity actually is. He has this feminist boogeywoman in his head that breathes fire and yells at him for opening a door for his wife.Ā
If you are interested in the thrilling conclusion, Iām going to try the read more thing.Ā

There is a veteran running a GoFundMe for the border wall. Heās raised about $11 million so far. On the one hand, it makes me chuckle because at this pace heāll have the funding in about 50 years.Ā
On the other hand, it makes me really sad. Especially since this effort is from a disabled veteran. Right now vets are plagued with homelessness. They have poor access to mental care. And many do not have the resources to find ways to cope and readjust to civilian life.Ā
Trump championed a GI bill that was supposed to give new benefits to veterans. Money for housing and education. But due to a computer glitch (that glitch being a 50-year-old computer), the VA is unable to pay those benefits. There are vets who have been waiting months. The VA just kinda shrugged and said theyāll pay up when they find an ancient IT person who can fix their antiquated system. Thousands of veterans could be looking for a place to live this Christmas.Ā
You know what could really help this situation?
11 frickinā million dollars.Ā Ā
Hey there @politicsaccordingtohistory
Would you like to play a game?
Itās calledā¦
MEET THAT SCIENTIST!
*game show music plays*
Mr. PATH seems to think all of the newly elected Democrats with science backgrounds are bumbling fools who canāt tell a beaker from a test tube.Ā
Letās see what kind of mental neanderthals got elected, shall we?
Jeff Van Drew
This one might be a bit controversial. Jeff is a doctor of dentistry. Which is technically an applied science, but some might argue that is not in the spirit of the original tweet. Though a dentist must have the ability to understand medical research, diagnose certain medical conditions, and has a better than average understanding of human biology.
That said, he is apparently a pretty damn good dentist as he is president of the New Jersey Dental Society and a board expert of the New Jersey Board of Dentistry.Ā
Lauren Underwood
Lauren is a registered nurse. I bet youāre imagining some woman in scrubs taking peopleās temperature and bringing them Jello. Not very impressive, right?
Lauren earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Michigan. She received her Master of Science in Nursing and Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University.Ā
Thatās two masters degrees, friend.Ā
From Johns Frickinā Hopkins.
Lauren went on to beĀ the Senior Director of Strategy & Regulatory Affairs at Next Level Health. She also served as an adjunct instructor at the Georgetown University School of Nursing & Health Studies.Ā
George Frickinā Town.
In 2016, Obama appointed her as a Senior Advisor at the Department of Health and Human Services where she helped shape national health policy.
So yeah⦠just a nurse.Ā
Jacky Rosen
Jacky is a computer scientist. She is an accomplished programmer and software developer. She earned a bachelorās degree in psychology (BONUS SCIENCE!) and an associate degree in computing and information technology. She has worked with some of the biggest companies in Nevada including Summa Corporation, Citibank, and Southwest Gas Company.
She dabbles in other sciences in her spare time. Rosen led a team that constructed one of the largest solar projects in the City of Henderson and southern Nevada. Rosen helped cut a synagogueās energy bills by 70%.
Kim SchrierĀ
Kim is a pediatrician!Ā
Now weāre talking. Things are getting real sciency now.Ā Ā
Dr. Schrier earned a bachelorās degree from the University of California, Berkeley, in astrophysics. (MOREĀ BONUS SCIENCE!)
She attended the University of California Davis School of Medicine, where she graduated a Doctor of Medicine. She completed her residency at the Stanford University School of Medicine.Ā
Stan Frickinā Ford.Ā
Say Mr. PATH, do you think they accept shitty doctors into the residency program of one of the most prestigiousĀ medical programs in the country?Ā
Asking for a friend.
Elaine Luria
Elaine was just a lowly nuclear engineer.Ā
For the Navy.Ā
Where she operated nuclear reactors on giantĀ ships.Ā
Like this one.
With reactors like this one.Ā
That doesnāt look very complicated. Just shoveĀ uranium in the hole and press a button probably.Ā
She eventually reached the rank of Commander where she ledĀ Assault Craft Unit TWO. A fleet of vessels specializing in getting to places super fast that are far away. They can be on the go within 24 hours.Ā
Iām guessing thatās not a job that needs a competent commander or anything. The Navy probably just puts any rube in charge.Ā
Sean Casten
Next up we have probably the dumbest science guy in the bunch. This guy seems like a real dud in a lab coat.Ā
Casten earned a bachelor of arts in molecular biology and biochemistry from Middlebury College. He worked as a scientist at the Tufts University School of Medicine in a laboratory investigating dietary impacts on colon and breast cancer. He earned a Master of Engineering Management and a Master of Science in biochemical engineering from the Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth College.Ā
Dart Frickinā Mouth.Ā
While at Dartmouth, he worked to develop technologies for alternative heat and power generation technologies including the production of fuel grade ethanol.Ā
After he was done slacking earning only 3 degrees in bio-whatever, he went on to be the CEO of his own renewable energy company,Ā Recycled Energy Development.Ā
They have been able to invest over a billion dollars into alternative energy technologies that might help save the planet.Ā
SOUNDS PRETTY DUMB.
Joe CunninghamĀ
Joe graduated from Florida Atlantic University as an ocean engineer.Ā
Florida Frickinā Atlantic University.
Okay, Iāve never heard of that school.Ā
But Iām sure the ocean engineering program is very nice.Ā
After graduating he worked for 5 years as a consultant for a major company that specializes in marine, environmental, and coastal engineering.
Joe then went back to school to get his law degree. Which means he has a science background and a decent understanding of the laws he will be trying to change and improve.Ā
Chrissy Houlahan
I bet this next one is a really sucky scientist.Ā
This is where I prove you right, Mr. PATH. I can feel it.Ā I mean, Chrissy? That doesnāt sound like the name of a competent scientist.Ā
Chrissy got her Bachelorās Degree in Engineering from Stanford University.Ā
Meh⦠now that I think about it⦠Stanford is overrated.Ā Ā
She then earned a Masters Degree in Technology and Policy from something called the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.Ā
Massachusetts Institute of Technology? What the heck is that?
Pssh, itās not like she went to M.I.T. or something.Ā
Now THAT would have been frickinā impressive.Ā
Chrissy also spent 3 years in something called the āU.S. Air Force.ā She was a project manager in charge ofĀ air and space defense technologies.Ā
That sounds fake.Ā
Heh, maybe sheāll build lasers for some fictional space force with a stupid name only a 4-year-old would think is cool.Ā Ā
Chrissy also-also did voluntary community service working with girls and women in science, technology, engineering, and math.Ā
Whatās the point, amirite? That guy from Google said womenās brains no work good at math, so her volunteer work was probably a waste of time.Ā
WHAT BUNCH OF MORONS.
You made fun of a liberal science journal called Fat Studies. You also implied that everyone on the left got together and collectively started it. Which⦠okay⦠sure⦠it was discussed at the meeting. We all contribute to and support Fat Studies. Every single one of us.Ā
Yes, they did get duped into publishing a fake research paper and Iām sure thatās why you mentioned it. But their editorial board still has 18 people with PhDs. I read a few articles and while I wouldnāt say it is the most esteemed journal in the world, it does push forward conversations about fat acceptance and references some genuine research that has been peer reviewed. They basically want fat people to be more respected. HOW DARE THEY?
Itās definitely a mixed bag with a left-leaning bias. Perhaps it would be better if they took a more objective approach. But I can see how you might think they donāt live up to your strict scientific standards.Ā
However, do you think the Republican leadership is up to your standards?Ā
Do you remember when Senator Jim Inhofe brought a snowball into the Senate chamber to disprove global warming?
Fat Studies has a very small readership and minimal influence. No one voted for them. They are an easy example for you to cherry pick and laugh at.Ā
But Olā Jim here is a US Senator. He can change all of our lives. This guy brought a snowball inside and in front of the entire world said global warming canāt be real cuz it was cold that day.
Do you feel like that would hold up to scientific scrutiny?Ā
Letās look at some more Republicans!
Donald J. Trump
This one is too easy. But he did just say thisā¦
āOne of the problems that a lot of people like myself ā we have very high levels of intelligence, but weāre not necessarily such believers. You look at our air and our water, and itās right now at a record clean.Ā As to whether or not itās man-made and whether or not the effects that youāre talking about are there, I donāt see it ā not nearly like it is.ā
I guess he didnāt read that 1700 page climate study just released that said the opposite of that. Also,Ā 60 percent of Americans live in areas where air pollution has reached unhealthy levels that can make people sick. SO CLEAN!
Ben Carson
Not only is Ben a prominent Republican figure and the current Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, but he is also a neurosurgeon and Yale graduate. He has got to be the best representative of a more science-minded Republican. Letās find out!
āHow are flowers able to reproduce? Pollination. How does pollination occur? Bees and other creatures. And according to evolution, plants came along before the bees. So, how did the plants reproduce?ā
CHECKMATE, DARWIN!
He also believes the Earth was created in 6 days. Humans have only been around for 6,000 years. The Big Bang is stupid. The pyramids were built to store grain. AndĀ $31,000 is a reasonable amount to spend on a dining room set.
Steve King
Steve just got elected in the midterms. Heās the guy that partied with some white supremacists in Austria. He went to college and majored in math and science. Nice!
But he dropped out⦠less nice.
He still has some interesting thoughts on science.
āClimate change is more a religion than a science. Everything that might result from a warmer planet is always bad. There will be more photosynthesis going on if the Earth gets warmer. We donāt know where sea level is even, let alone be able to say that itās going to come up an inch globally because some polar ice caps might melt because thereās CO2 suspended in the atmosphere.ā
WHERE IS THE SEA LEVEL? WE JUST DONāT KNOW.
Itās not like we have satellites that have been able to measure the sea level with unprecedented accuracy (within millimeters) since 1992.Ā
Letās look at some members of the House Science Committee.
That might be a fairer comparison, right? Itās gotĀ āscienceā right in the name!
Paul Broun
He was probably the only Republican STEM scientist in Congress before he retired. He is a physician who earned a bachelorās in chemistry.Ā
Letās hear him do a science.Ā
āGodās word is true. Iāve come to understand that. All that stuff I was taught about evolution and embryology and Big Bang theory, all that is lies straight from the pit of hell.ā
Yikes.Ā
Frank Lucas
āSound science must be the cornerstone of sound policy.ā
Hey! That sounds promising!
āMost telling of the EPAās irrational regulatory approach is how the EPA has concluded that the breath that we exhale, the gas that livestock expels, are dangerous pollutants and should be regulated by the Clean Air Act.ā
Yeah! How could CO2 and methane possibly be problematic? Itās perfectly natural! We breathe it. Cows blow it out their pooper. So safe.
What we really need to regulate is Dihydrogen Monoxide. Everyone who has ever ingested DHMO has died. Technically.Ā
Dana RohrabacherĀ
He chaired the House Science Committee for a while and is still an active member. Iām sure he has some deep thoughts on scientificĀ matters.Ā
āWe donāt know what those other cycles were caused by in the past. Could be dinosaur flatulence, you know, or who knows?ā
I wonder if he has published that hypothesis in a scientific journal.
This isnāt going well.Ā
What we really need is aĀ science enthusiast. Someone who has shown a true fascination and interest in things like space, rocketry, and defense technology.Ā
Someone like that would totally be a fair comparison.Ā
Mo BrooksĀ Ā
Mo just got reelected and he is constantly talking about what a strong advocate he is for science.Ā
Letās check him out!Ā
Mo Brooks is a longtime member of several scientific committees.Ā
Committee on Science, Space & Technology Subcommittee on Energy Vice Chairman - Subcommittee on Space and AeronauticsĀ (aka NASA)Ā Ā
Wow! Heās partly responsible for a lot of our nationās science junk. PERFECT!
One of Moās favorite pastimes is going someplace sciency, wearing a lab coat, and smiling at stuff he doesnāt understand.Ā
āHey fellas! Can I press some buttons? I love pressing the buttons.ā
āIs this a science? Mo donāt know.ā
āI bet this makes some tasty kettle corn.ā
āHe let me push the button! SO HAPPY!ā
Since Mo is on the committee that helps direct NASA and its funding, youād think heād be up to speed on the latest climate science. After all, NASA is one of the worldās leading climate science researchers.Ā
Hereās a hot take from Moā¦
āNobody knows whether weāre going to have global cooling or global warming over the next half century or century.ā
Actually, NASA has an entire website called āHow do we know?āĀ
Itās got colorful graphs like this one.Ā
It even has this giant quote in big bold letters that Mo could see even without his reading spectacles.Ā
I feel like Chairman Mo should put on his lab coat and read that website. Iām sure his grandkids can pull that up for him.Ā
What else you got, Mo?
āWhat about erosion? Every time you have that soil or rock, whatever it is, that is deposited into the seas, that forces the sea levels to rise because now youāve got less space in those oceans because the bottom is moving up.ā
You read that correctlyā¦Ā Mo thinks rocks falling into the ocean are causing the sea levels to rise instead of ice melting from global warming.Ā
Would you like to know just how dumb that statement is?
3,000,000,000,000,000 kilograms of rocks would need to fall into the ocean every year. The Cliffs of Dover dumped an estimated 45,000,000 kilograms of chalk into the sea after a sudden collapse. Avalanches like that would have to happen 66 million times every year.
What'chu talkinā ābout Mo?
You may think I cherry-picked these people to make Republicans look worse. I actually could not find anyone in the leadership with a decent science literacy track record. And many of these people are in charge of our nationās science policy. (Unlike Fat Studies.) So that is especially relevant.
I guess what Iām saying is⦠Iād take a mediocre Democrat scientist over Mo anytime.Ā
But it seems like the ones just elected are actually pretty exceptional.Ā
Even the dentist.Ā

Be Gone
There is some reality show level drama happening in the White House.Ā
Melania does not like one of Trumpās national security advisers. Without telling even the president himself, she released a statement saying she wants this advisor ousted from her position. I feel like that is something she should have run by⦠just, like, literally anyone else in the world.Ā
Our First Lady, who has no experience in matters of national security, wants to oust someone because of a spat. That is all kinds of wild. If Michelle Obama had done this, Republicans would have gone into a mouth-frothy rabies-likeĀ rage.Ā
Not only that, John Kelly might get the boot because Melania couldnāt get some of her aides promoted in a timely fashion.Ā
I think the non-power of her position is going to her head⦠somehow.Ā
I guess Melania doesnāt think these people are Be Best-ing.Ā
They are⦠Non-Be Besters.Ā
Be Worsters?
This be bad.Ā
This is literally an event from Crusader Kings II. The game where you murder your father, marry your sister and go to war because you donāt own everything yet...
The Lie of How Many Women Lie
I continue to have a love/hate relationship with reddit. On the one hand, it is such an easy platform to use. When I have very little energy or concentration, I can inform myself quickly without much hassle.Ā
But there are so many problematic groups on reddit. And they can be hard to ignore sometimes.Ā
Tonight on the front page there were three posts talking about false rape accusations. This is quite common on reddit. And itās not always just the MRAs that post these types of things. Every news story about a false rape accusation will be shot to the front page like a bullet. And if you go into the comments, every time it quickly devolves into brutal misogyny and sexism and slut shaming and just plain hatred of women.
I do not deny false accusations happen. I know they happen. While I think it is rare, it is still an issue worthy of discussion. I think solutions to this problem should be suggested and debated. But I also think it should be properly prioritized.Ā
My problem is how uneven this topic is discussed in relation to sexual assault in general. If sexual assaults were posted the same way false accusations were, that would probably fill up the first 50 pages of reddit. Every day. 24/7.Ā
The people posting and commenting are so frightened by false accusations ruining their life but they seem to care very little about victims and how their lives are ruined. They almost never discuss ways to dismantle rape culture and prevent rape. They often deny rape culture exists in the same moment they are contributing to it. And Iām pretty sure this obsession has caused them to consider all rape victims liars without DNA evidence and 20 eyewitnesses. Recent events sure make it seem that way.Ā
Iām also a little concerned that maybe some of these people have sexually assaulted and they want to use this sort of āfalse accusation cultureā to help discredit victims.Ā āSee, women are all liars! I did nothing wrong.ā
I have seen quite a few people comment after seeing this graphic and say, āActually, itās more like 50% false accusations.ā And then theyāll support their assertion by mentioning a cousin who was falsely accused. Itās hard to argue with ironclad statistical analysis like that.Ā
The imbalance of how these topics get discussed is upsetting.Ā
Itās like if instead of talking about the drunk driving epidemic, people only ever discussed how unreliable certain breathalyzers can be. Itās like,Ā āYeah, sure, thatās a problem we should try to fix⦠but can we discuss all these dead people every once in a while?ā
The sad thing is⦠I think if more men were willing to help dismantle rape culture and toxic masculinity and this notion of male entitlement, many more people would probably be willing to help find solutions to things like false accusations.
