temporary sanctum || fei & jungsoo
vcjungsoo:
“IT’D HARD NOT to, part of me feels like i’ve done a pretty shit job at keeping you safe..” jungsoo sighed, the sudden aura change he emitted was noticeable, and there was no doubt that fei would notice too. despite fei’s pleads and words, deep down he knew that he was somewhat in the wrong, that he had went against his gang and that was one of the first rules he ever learnt. never go against your own gang. yet, years later, he finds himself falling for the leader of another gang, someone who jungsoo knew minki wouldn’t consent to, someone he knew he wouldn’t like. but, it was the one thing that truly made him happy. he never thought he’d experience love or anything to do with it, and with the moment sam entered his life and made him feel different, he didn’t want to lose that. a feeling he had never felt before, one that scared him so much but one that he didn’t want to let go of. and after everything he knew, he still went against his own gang, his family, and now he could only wait.
it was odd for soo to be smiling, and when he did, it was a complete different look to what everybody saw. he only ever found himself really smiling and laughing at fei or sam. and so with every smile he let off, was one of his most rarest ones. it was almost of a perona that had no connections to the gang life, and in all honesty, you would’t expect a smiley and cheerful version of jungsoo to be in a gang, to be a prostitute. “ooh, now that sounds very tempting. is that an invitation? you know how much i can annoy you.” grinning widely, corners of his eyes creasing as his heart shaped lips formed a happy, amused grin. his smile slowly faltered, eyes watching as fei’s also faltered. it seemed like the two couldn’t have a happy conversation for more than 5 minutes without them both realising that it wasn’t persistent, and then their smiles would break into nothing and they’d be overwhelmed with the sense of dullness. forcing a soft smile onto his face, he blinked slowly, a tiny hint of fatigue hidden under as he playfully booped her nose, pushing another stray strand of hair out of her face. “we’re all worried about him, but he’ll be fine. when have we ever let something get to us, huh? we’re pretty much invincible, we can handle it.”
as her hushed giggles passes through his ears, he glanced up at her with happy eyes, head tilted just slightly. at the mention of him being a dad, he scoffed, playfully biting her finger, although his teeth not touching her injured finger once. “oh, please. don’t call me a dad, that makes me feel old. i’m only twenty four.” he chuckled audibly, sooner turning into a louder chuckle as her hand was placed against his face and pushing him away. “well, sweets are bad for you, but i can certainly give you as much attention as you want.” a gentle, loving smile etched onto his face, one that came from deep within his heart. so rare. he knew that fei would most likely notice that he couldn’t keep their promise, simply by the sudden change in the tone of his voice, as he hated that. he hated that he couldn’t take fei out for a day and act like they were both normal people, out to enjoy their day together. oh, how he wished he could. but it would never happen, not then. and certainly not now, he didn’t know if minki would even allow him to continue talking to fei. and the thought of losing her, hurt like hell. taking her hand in his, he gently placed a delicate kiss onto her knuckles and began speaking again. “i’m sorry i’ve not been around the last few days.. i wish i was here.”
“That’s not your job, Soo,” Fei gently reminded him, tilting her head slightly to catch his gaze, to make sure that he was listening and that he knew she meant it. “I’m the one who got me into this mess. I could’ve just taken my inheritance and lived a normal life but I decided to join the Night Bloods, and that means that I’m the only one responsible for my safety, yeah?” And as logical as that train of thought was, Fei knew it wasn’t entirely true. She’d allowed herself to get close to people, and people who were close shared each other’s burdens, simple as that--- hell, Jungsoo was basically her big brother at this point, Fei would say so without question if asked such a thing, so surely they both held at least a little bit of responsibility for one another.
Fei absolutely loved Jungsoo’s smile, a contagious heart shaped tug of his lips that could rival the sun in emitting the most warmth she’d ever felt. And she did feel warm around him, cozy as if anywhere could feel like home as long as she had her big brother by her side, offering her safety and affection and everything else that she’d been at a desperate lack of ever since her father’s death. “Oh dear god, what have I done? I’m bedridden, how am I supposed to escape if you really start annoying me? I take it back, abort abort!” she retorted, laughter slipping into the cracks between each word. But of course, nothing so playful could last between them, not at a moment when emotions hovered over them like monsters under the bed, just waiting for the most inconvenient of times to strike. Despite it all, she scrunched her nose up beneath his touch, if only to pull another smile out of him, no matter how small. “Yeah. Invincible,” she echoed softly, not entirely sure how true that statement was. Or who he was referring to when he said we. Just the two of them? The Night Bloods as a whole? Did he even still consider himself a Night Blood?
“Then stop acting like one,” Fei tossed back, punctuating the statement with one last soft giggle. Not that she really wanted him to stop, but she’d keep giving him shit about it as long as it would continue to go on. An overexaggerated pout pulled over her lips at the denial of sweets, but that little bit of confirmation that he’d lend her his attention while she needed it was comforting, allowing her expression to fall into something more fond. “It’s okay,” Fei assured him in response to his apology, voice gentle, understanding. “I get it, I wouldn’t exactly be hanging around here either if I had Minki on my ass like that. As soon as I’m feeling a bit better, I’ll be back in my own apartment and then we can hang out whenever we want, yeah?” And that may not be possible either, but it was more promising than the situation that they were in now, so Fei would hold onto that hope.
