âNo fish are definitely the most low maintenance pet. One time I was house sitting for my sister and my nephewâs goldfish died while they were gone, I replaced him, and no one ever knew.â Although maybe that wasnât proving his point. Either way he shrugged and took Felixâs hand as he led her out to the dance floor.
He placed a hand on her waist and the other stayed in her hand as they started to move to the music. âThen I suppose youâll have to follow my lead, wonât you?â Luke smiled as he gazed down at Felix. She was gorgeous and made him laugh so it was, by all accounts, going well.Â
âThanks for joining me tonight, by the way. Iâve got the prettiest date on the boat so Iâm feeling pretty damn good.â
.
âThatâs kind of awful and also pretty truthful,â Felix agreed, absolutely judgment free. At least he replaced the fish to spare the child, right?  âBut I mean if theyâre just going to up and die, whatâs the point?â Some part of her recognized the words about following his lead and recognized it as a whole point of contention for someone somewhere. In this case, though, she didnât have the knowledge to combat it and, at least for the task at hand, she trusted him to be in charge. So she went with it.  âYouâre welcome. Thanks for having me. However reluctant Iâve been about dating, this is nice. Itâs been a good reintro to the process. Youâre probably fending off my motherâs impending overbearing interference about how Iâm mostly likely die alone, so I owe you a world of gratitude.â

âNow that is sweet and kind of romantic,â She smiled at the story. âObviously being taken care of whether it is with simple gestures of small things like being offered quarters when you need them. Actually anything is miles better than uhm..â There was no stopping her from looking at the gaudy red and pink coloured shelf with random knick-knacks that screamed desperation. Now she had not been lucky when it came to love and romance but thankfully she had never been given anything remotely close to anything that she was looking at.Â
âHonestly I donât know if thereâs anyone out there that would actually be that happy and touched in receiving any of this. I mean even a single red rose would be more romantic than whatever this is.â This time she chuckle and shook her head, taking a small step away from the shelf in fear the items would suddenly come to life and attack her for all the things she has said. âDo you think we should ditch this place and go get a coffee instead?â
.
Felixâs eyes followed her counterparts and, yeah, she had to agree.  âI think, even though some of these are coffee mugs, a single red rose would also be more practical.â  She side-eyed the display one more time and then abandoned any thought of reorganization.  âYouâre right. Weâre not going to be able to accomplish anything of meaning here. Letâs go get coffee.âÂ

Luke liked being around Felix because she was more than just a pretty face. Heâd had plenty of girls cycle through his life that were just pretty girls and not much else, or women who wanted him because of his name and his money and not who he was. Felix was fun to be around and didnât seem to give a rats ass who he was or how many episodes of a reality tv show heâd been on or how many superbowlâs heâd won. âFor the record, I didnât adopt any of them because cats are too needy for me when I travel so much for work.â He would have though if he thought he had time for it truthfully.
âWhat would you say to a dance, Miss Lakeman? I happen to love this song and you look too pretty not to be spun around on the floor in front of all these jealous people.â He held out a hand to offer to Felix.
.
Felix let out a healthy laugh.  âCats are basically the least needy pets,â she opined -- though she did it without concrete fact.  âAt least, thatâs what I hear. I wouldnât know. But maybe you could find a way to, like, timeshare or something.â Of course, she couldâve also pressed on his openness to dating. If he couldnât commit to a pet, was he really in the mood for a relationship? She wasnât traveling down that road because she was also not in the right frame of mind for anything more than they were doing. Or... maybe for anything slightly more than maybe what they were doing. Â
âI would say okay,â she agreed.  âFair warning, itâs been a stupidly long time since I danced with someone though. You might have to remind me how itâs done.âÂ

Paige had come very close to working a 9-5 office job. She thrived there too, but it became boring very fast. She couldnât be as expressive as she wanted to be in that environment. âThatâs why I like my vlog stuff. I make my own hours. I decide when I want to film and edit. No pressure. And I can have any dress code I want.â Wine did sound like a decent idea as she too would be eating as much chocolate as she could consume. âMake that a double. Wine sounds amazing right now. I think Iâll go with red. No preference what kind. Wine is wine.â Â
.
âThatâs what I like about the time Iâm working from home,â Felix admitted. And really, she did have a lot of latitude with that, which was kind of nice. For being a business, office type of worker, she had a lot of flexibility and a fairly casual workplace. âBut probably less deciding my own content.â The add-on was an afterthought and it came with a small laugh. âI think if I had my own vlog or blog or anything else, though, it would be completely directionless, and that just doesnât work for me.â Without some structure, sheâd probably collapse and cease to function. âI feel the same way.â It was a pretty basic request and the bar had no real trouble keeping up because it was easy enough to reach for the open bottle and pour. She reached the other womanâs glass toward her. âIt feels like a habit to toast to something with a wine glass in my hand, but I donât know what it would be.â Â

He was lucky that Felix had agreed to be his date tonight because Luke really hadnât been able to get a good read on her after their first one. He liked her and was definitely interested in seeing where things could go from here but he was unsure what her thoughts were and hadnât felt like he had a right to ask. He supposed that the fact that she agreed to a second date, on Valentineâs Day of all days, probably was a good sign though.
âOh was that in question? I thought I was very clear on how angelic I find you.â Luke teased as a grin spread across his face. âIâm convinced that youâre not a real person because if you were then you would have taken that kitten home after our first date. You must be from another realm if you didnât want Mr. Mittens as your new companion.â
.
Their first date had been better than sheâd been expecting anything courtesy of her dating app to be. It was an awful thought, considering that app was how she put a roof over her head, but it had been there. Dating as a general concept hadnât held a place in her life for a very long time, so sheâd been skeptical at best. It probably had only worked out as it did because Luke was so charming. Spending time with him wasnât exactly a chore.Â
She laughed.  âAngelic? That is one thing Iâve never actually been called before.â She shrugged.  âHe was a fantastic companion, but Iâve never had a cat before. If my track record with plants is anything to go by, I canât be trusted to keep something besides myself alive. Besides, I had to leave him there so you could double back and adopt two cats when I wasnât there with you. They both seemed to love you.âÂ
paigetaylorkingâ:
âI can vibe with a drink right now.â Paige had been eyeing up everyoneâs drinks in between takes of her vlogs. There were so many she wanted to try and finally had the chance to do so. âIâve got all my vlog footage so I can officially party. Iâm Paige by the way. The whole kiss thing was for my followers I set up a little romantic plot that may or may not happen by the end of tonight."Â
.
âNice to meet you, Paige. Iâm Felix.â She gestured toward the bar, perfectly content to grab a drink with a stranger and potentially new friend. She knew she needed more of those, and it was always a little easier to put herself out there in situations like this and with a little liquid courage.  âA vlog sounds exhausting. I work for an app, and even coming up with content for ours is basically how I spend my time. Do you love it, though?â She asked.  âOh, and whatâs your poison for tonight? Iâm probably going to start with wine because Iâve already eaten an embarrassing amount of chocolate.âÂ
miss-verona-warrenâ:
Verona was grateful for the other womanâs kindness the moment she sat down. She didnât realize how much her feet were hurting until she stopped moving and it was nice to take a quick moment to herself as a result. She didnât think she over did it tonight, but she definitely had been out of practice with dancing.Â
â Thank youâ Verona replied with a smile. â Honestly I consider myself fairly active but I feel like Iâm out of shape tonight. â She laughed. â Mostly everything sweet. Itâs been mostly desserts. Do you recommend anything else?â Â
.
Felix could appreciate that.  âSame. I think itâs just a different kind of activity that Iâm used to. Or maybe more spread out. Iâm active in thirty minute chunks most of the time, not just constantly going.â Mostly everything sweet seemed to be the name of the game.  âThere was some sushi, I think, that was pretty good. But most of what Iâve had for sure has been dessert. Thatâs the whole reason for coming, isnât it?âÂ

This felt like a game of sorts and Laela found herself excited to get started. What started as nothing more than just a quick trip to the grocers to restock her home fridge, which often times go uncared for when she would only care to stock up the restaurant, has now taken a turn for something more fun. Looking at the cringeworthy soft toy however made her realise there may be no winner at the end of the day. Everything just looked equally as bad because she found something else that could match it in terms of horribleness. âWhat about this?â She held up the cup, reading the words again to make sure that she did not read it wrong. âCould you imagine if someone were to give this to you thinking it is romantic? How are you even supposed to respond to this?â
.
Felix took the mug into her hands and stared at it with a vague sense of horror.  âThis is the least romantic thing possible because it pretty blatantly says they donât know me at all. I think the best gift I ever got for Valentines day was when my college boyfriend fed me soup while I was sick and gave me quarters to do my laundry because I really needed both of those things at the time. Iâd never had someone take care of me like that before.â Â
She set the offending object down.  âThis does not communicate that at all. But I guess Iâm not into romantic things, really, so maybe thatâs why? Maybe thereâs someone out there who would like it?â She took in the fact there were several of them on the shelf.  âOr maybe more than one someone?âÂ

There was something in the air. Maybe it was because nearly everyone was getting progressively more drunk as the night went on, trapped on a boat in any variety of uncomfortable situation. Maybe it was her own intake. Maybe it was because Valentines Day had a tendency to bring out the more desperate aspects of some personalities. She had no explanation for the way she managed to repress her laughter at the really bad line dropped her way as she turned back to Luke. Not that he wasnât the hottest person in the room, because he definitely was and had probably had these experiences way more often than she did. âDo you believe I fell from heaven, too? Because Iâm having some trouble wrapping my head around that as an aura I put out there.âÂ

As the event continued throughout the night, Verona found herself having a sense of calm despite the party like atmosphere. It was one of the first times she was having fun in a public setting on her own. She always relied on others lately and though it was due to her own personal grief, she knew that coming here on her own was a probably the best idea. She didnât feel like she was betraying her past but was still having fun. The artist held a drink in her hand as she moved to find a place to sit for a second. â Is this spot open?â She asked gesturing to the empty seat. â I donât think Iâve stopped dancing as soon as the music started. â She added with a smile. â Having fun?â
.
Felix absolutely had to sit down.  Her shoes were gorgeous, but they werenât the most comfortable things.  And this ship wasnât small.  There had been a lot of walking and a lot of trying to keep balance as the boat shifted. She just needed a moment to sit.  âYes, it is,â she agreed, offering a small smile to the pretty blonde.  âI am, but I think everyone deserves a chance to take a rest.  The dancing, the walking... itâs a lot.  Have you had anything to eat yet?  The food is incredible.âÂ

Love was something Paige kept herself closed off tightly from. Her college romance had been an absolute disaster. So no one was allowed to get that close ever again. Cut to years and many casual hook ups later. Sheâd thought sheâd come close a few times but it wasnât meant to be. So she picked herself up and moved on to wherever life took her next. Cue this cruise, probably the perfect place to be single and leave with someone else. Even if no specific dating event was scheduled, (to the disappointment of the few loyal viewers she did have) Paige was still about to have fun, which meant she wouldnât have a lot of video footage for the event.
ââŚSo thatâs the sitch on this cruise! Itâs super cute, Iâm hoping to get at least one kiss tonight, love is in the air⌠Iâll be posting all the pictures I took in a collage at the end. Love y'all!â Paige had tucked herself away from the crowd to add this little outro for her video. She didnât exactly have a plot or a script for them but to keep the views maybe sheâd done a little bit of fibbing. A little white lie or two sprinkled about her videos hyping up this event. Either nothing would happen or something would happen. For now the video would have to sit in her camera folder. It needed editing and her computer was at home.
.
It seemed like there was always someone around making content these days. While Felix didnât exactly make videos, she definitely knew what to do with content that was made for her. Sometimes she even had input into what was produced. She still gave wide berth and healthy respect to people who were doing it for themselves. âI donât know about a kiss, or ending up on whatever youâre posting that to, but Iâd be up for a drink,â she said, unsure that was the best idea but doing it anyway (and feeling all the better for it.). At least the woman was hot.Â

Nathan wasnât big on touristy spots. Not just because they were expensive, but also because they were absolutely filled with people. But it was a workday afternoon, one of the quietest times possible, and with some spare cash in his pocket, Nate finally decided to visit one of the most-talked about places in the city. He had never even been there, not even when he lived here with his adoptive parents, and yet, it was oddly interesting.
âThis is awesome!â He couldnât help but show his excitement as he made his way over to one of the large windows, eyes wide as he observed the skyline of the city that was as close to home as he could consider it. The day was clear and sunny, perfect for watching over the city, and so the young man couldnât take his eyes off the views. âItâs definitely worth the money, donât you think?â He spoke excitedly, finally focusing on the mountain that surrounded and beautifully completed the entire view. âDo you think itâs possible to climb the mountain for anyone who wishes?â
@seattlehqs-startersâ
.
It wasnât necessarily a New York City rooftop, which sheâd only managed to get onto a few times, but the Skyview Observatory was something. There was something humbling about climbing, or elevating, to a birds-eye view and taking in the city from that perspective. It was the first time sheâd done it since she was back, but it felt pretty great. It was helping her consider participation in the charity stairclimb they hosted annually, in part for the view from the top and a way to make it beneficial not just for her but for a good cause. Those thoughts were interrupted by an entirely enthusiastic stranger. The nostalgic part of her missed having that much excitement about anything and she wanted to do nothing to crush it for someone else, so she chuckled a little as her mind segued from the more self-absorbed thoughts to a focus on the other person. âYeah, it is,â she agreed.  âI can pass up a couple nights of takeout to make it happen.â She nodded in response to his other question.  âMount Rainier? Yeah, you can go hiking in some places. If you want to camp overnight, you need a permit through the parks service. At least, thatâs how it was when I went while I was in college. It was really beautiful. We did camp, though, and thatâs not really my thing.â Â

Lennon smiled, grateful that she seemed understanding enough about everything. Though he still felt a little guilty that he couldnât offer something more helpful, just negativity. Maybe it was just the mood he was in, because usually he tried to throw out more positive vibes, but when it came to dating apps specifically it was difficult to think of anything that might be beneficial. âOh, actually something that might help is a system that actually does something about someone being reported? It sort of seems like if you flag someone nothing actually happens. Like itâs just meant to make you feel better or something. But there are people who say or do, like, really gross things sometimes. So maybe if there was some way that flagging that person would be more effective, that might help a bit?â He offered, shrugging a shoulder.
âI mean, I never expect anyone to be very accepting. But that just means Iâm surprised more often than not. There are a lot of people in the world that suck, but there are a lot more that donât. At least most of the time.â
.
Felix was really done prying, but wasnât necessarily about cutting the conversation short. He was at least trying to help and all his experience and knowledge was definitely valuable. She appreciated him sharing it with her.  âThatâs a really great idea. I know Iâve seen something similar in bar restrooms, like code words you can give the bartender if youâre having a problem. Itâs not enough, but itâs at least something. A system that allows for alerts and action is a really good idea. Thank you.â She took a moment to type a note in her phone about it. âDo you think people would be willing to make those reports? Like would it be uncomfortable for them, or is there a way to make it pretty straightforward? I donât want to get into a rating system because thatâs so many levels of gross, but repeat flags would definitely show where the problems lay.âÂ
She sighed.  âYeah. I really hate the low-bar concept, but it works. If you keep your expectations in check, it helps curb disappointment.â She bit her lip.  âThis isnât the most professional offer, but can I buy you a drink or something to say thank you for your insight? Most people arenât willing to give me constructive suggestions like this. We can definitely talk about a different subject, though.â
sognamiamoreâ:
â¨
Laela could not help but cringe at the thought of receiving a gift from this aisle. As nice as she was, she wondered if she could ever accept something as thoughtless as the sad looking items sitting on the shelf. Probably not. âYou take the top shelf and I take the middle shelf?â She nodded her head. âWhich one do you think we should remove and hide forever though? And how about, we make a game out of this? Whoever finds the worst item gets a free coffee from the other. Howâs that sound?âÂ
.
It was sort of hilarious to Felix, immediately, that she found someone willing to tackle this kind of project with her because the aesthetics were uncomfortable. Turning into a game was, for better or worse, the most spontaneous thing sheâd done in a while.  âThat sounds great. We may just end up buying each other coffee, though, because how do you score how terrible this is?â She held up the sloth with the unfortunate font choice on its heart.  âI guess at least some of the Valentines stuff made it off the palette but....â Â

SIX fears my muse has:
Being trapped (in a life sense)Â
Losing her momÂ
Being unable to support herselfÂ
Relying on someone who is untrustworthy
Being inadequateÂ
Remaining unsatisfied with everything
FIVE secrets my muse has:
When she was moved out of the apartment she shared with Abel in New York, she changed all his locks and locked the new keys inside on the counter.Â
She hasnât had a sexual partner in over two years.Â
She has a savings account sheâs never told anyone about and she always deposits something into it when she gets a paycheck, even if the deposit is only $1.  Â
It took her seven tries to pass her driving test.
The only thing she can bake are cookies with pre-made dough or brownies from a box, in spite of the fact sheâs lived at sea level for her entire life. She was responsible to take cheesecake every Christmas she was in college, per family tradition, and she bought it every single year.Â
FOUR people my muse loves:
Herself.
Her mom.
Her dad.
Daveed Diggs. (It might be more of a crush than real love since she doesnât know him personally.)Â
THREE guilty pleasures my muse has:
Buying hair care items she doesnât need. Most of them end up in a large bin in the top of her closet.Â
A Pinterest section dedicated to the princess bedroom of her dreams.
Takes English tests on DuoLingo while sheâs wine-drunk just to see if she can pass. The results are mixed.
TWO ambitions my muse has:
Starting her own app-based company that isnât for dating. She just doesnât know what she wants it to be.Â
At some point, she does want a child of her own.Â
ONE thing my muse canât live without:
She keeps $100 in emergency cash in her wallet, tucked behind her driverâs license. Replenishing it is the only withdrawal she makes from her secret savings account and, when there hasnât been enough money in her savings account in the past, sheâs asked her parents to supply it.
