my favorite part about ultima thule is how unnecessary urianger's sacrifice was. everyone else was taken out of the story in a natural way: thancred being the last one standing and taking a swing, estinien telling a dragon it's being a little bitch, y'shtola defying the answers handed to her and striving to reach her own conclusions, g'raha seeing the opportunity for life and growth beyond the death of an empire, and the twins seeing a scared, pained child and making an effort to extend a hand to her knowing full well what the cost would be and how much it would hurt the person they care about the most. and then urianger, completely unprompted, said 'y'shtola, move thine ass over' and got turned into a beam of light. cinema
