Being New to Final Fantasy XIV

One thing I’ve noticed as a new player to ff14, is just how much the game DOES NOT care about sticking to any conventional or stereotypical aesthetic or genre of fantasy (which I love). Of course, many FF games do this, but it’s vastly more prevalent in 14. ESPECIALLY when Uldah is your starting locations.

Cause like, Uldah has its whole height-of-the-Roman-Empire inspiration, coliseum city with sellsword mercenaries, political struggles and tropey high-fantasy plot points and stuff.

And then you do the envoy mission where Garlean Empire cutscene happens, and IMMEDIATELY they hit you with-BOOM! Sci-fi tech fantasy ships. BOOM! Magitek mechs and robots. BOOM! Great Value Darth Vader.

And yes I mean this guy.

Because he sounds EXACTLY like a Darth Vader impression or parody voice. The Garleans are NOT beating the Star Wars inspiration allegations. Not that it’s a bad thing! It’s Just really, really funny to me.

Anyways… I’m having fun, and I can’t wait to fight the Garleans they seem really fun.
