Kinda fucked up that ffxiv was able to make a villain who says shit like "darkness reigns" and "the arcane is mine to command" during his big monster boss fight a genuinely compelling and sympathetic character. Feeling some kinda way about how Erenville as a kid desperately wanted to adventure with his mom but she wouldn't let him. He was never 'good enough' for it.

She told him to find a fairy tale just to prove he was worthy of traveling by her side, which he predictably failed to do and eventually gave up on believing in. It meant he would never be worthy.

So he grew up into a distant adult who always traveled alone and was known for only ever wanting to work by himself.

And then after the succession... he invites the WoL to travel together. No obligation, just because Erenville wants the company. He wants to show the WoL his homeland, he wants the WoL to be there when he tells his mom he found the Golden City, and even after everything happens... he still wants to travel with the WoL just for the pleasure of their company.

What that kind of invitation must mean to Erenville when he offers it, and what it must feel like for him to want to have that company himself. Augh. //clutches chest
