Nightwatcher fights against Lao Ban and finds out where their limits end... and where someone else's start.

Boy... how do I talk about this one without spoilers? It's getting harder to protect people from spoilers for #1. So I think this may be the last issue I review without spoilers (in the open).
I'll discuss the story in the spoiler section, but in a nutshell, I got some confirmations, especially about my take on the main character and where the story should go.
The art looks amazing. However, I think the lettering in this issue, at least in the digital version, wasn't as polished as usual. It's not a big deal, but I can see lines that aren't supposed to be visible.
But let's discuss spoilers...
Lao Ban was another victim of Barlow (although he was probably always going to became a villain).
But that's not the spoiler. Since the story began, it was very clear that we were kind of seeing two people in that armor, and this issue showed us the other side of this persona come out.
I love it. I compared this take on Nightwatcher with Azrael, and this is very similar to that concept. Except for the part where Jenny is a trained assassin. But you get what I mean.
Lao actually figured out Jennika was Nightwatcher, and I am pretty sure this is just the set up for a more complicated story. Lao knows about Sheena.
And speaking of Sheena, you may dismiss their break-up as the classic vigilante drama, of never being able to have a stable relationship... but this needed to happen. Hear me out...
Jennika is a wild spirit. She came from a broken home, she suffered betrayal by the ones she loved, and she ended up in prison, where she (potentially) became more than friends with a ninja.
Now, that short relationship forged her path. She went on to join the clan, and that eventually led to her mutation, and her joining the Splinter clan.
That was when she finally got into a different kind of relationship, at least officially. It's unclear if that was her coming out or not, I still don't think Jennika believes in labels, but with the amount of trauma she had, and the situation she is currently going through, I couldn't imagine Jenny and Sheena surviving as a couple. In fact, Sheena not appearing in the book for 5 issues was already a red flag that the relationship wasn't working. Jennika was Nightwatcher all the time, ignoring Sheena. Well, we know now that she was calling her to break up.
And what she doesn't know, is that breaking up is the best she could do right now, as it is inevitable that Lao or someone near to him will try to get revenge at Jenny by attacking Sheena.
I guess it ended up looking like a typical vigilante drama, but the foundation of Jenny's character is consistent with this outcome.
I am really surprised with this title. It's kind of mainstream, but it works well.
