Shiro had been sick for weeks, exhausted and scrambled. Everything was still struggling to peice things together, mind and body. But he was greatly appreciatating the fact that he had a little bit more time alone. Time to think and regather.

Keith voice broke him out of his thoughts, he had changed a lot since he was gone. He was more than proud of him, the leader and fighter he always knew he was capable of being. "Of course Keith." The silver haired man replied, concern forming on his features.

The question had him puzzles, brows furrowing as he shook his head. “I have no idea if I’m honest with you. I remember the fight with Zarkon,” The searing pain ripping through him, “And then…I was awake and existing in the black lion. I didn’t k ow what had happened to me or where I was for a long time. Well felt like a long time- I’m pretty sure time passes different in there.” And he was off track, shaking his head he crossed his arms over his chest.

"So to answer your question, no. I don't know." It was probably torn to shreds by the energy of the fight, but...that wasn't something he could change now. What's done is done. _______________________________________________________________________

It was...well, relieving to hear this answer coming from Shiro himself. A sigh escaped Keith’s lips, a breath he didn’t know he’d been holding. Where he stood, he leaned against the wall, arms crossing over his chest. A small smile formed on his lips for a flash of a moment before fading, recalling the next question he had in line.

It took him a few moments, taking in Shiro’s form there before him, his white hair, his eyes...just like they were before everything happened. Just like he’d remembered them after two years away from everyone. Just like they were before Shiro had tried to kill him, had promised the two of them were going to die together in an abandoned lab, had--

A lot had happened.

“I don’t want to bring up anything bad, but I need to know: Shiro, do you remember anything about this?”

A hand untucked from his arm to raise up to his own face, brushing aside his grown-out fringe to reveal more of the scar that had been seared into his skin. It’d healed well by now, the burn, and didn’t hurt to the touch anymore, and...he knew Shiro--this Shiro-- wasn’t the one who did it, but...

in light of voltron becoming somehting i enjoy again, i decided to draw some sheith. i love keith, and i love shiro, and their dynamic is so good no matter how you swing it, but i’m partial to the ship. always have been.

They had one shot at this, and they’d managed to fail. Weeks of planning, wasted. It was back to square one. They’d have to make a new map, find a new target, go through the whole process of tracking all over again…

The feathers left behind and the angry clucking accented the silhouette hopping away in the distance, dust kicking up behind it.

Next time, they’d catch that chicken.

Space shenanigans or not, Zarkon’s reign had done its number on the entire universe. What Lotor had done to her people…it was horrible, but it was only part of the overlying evil and tyranny that infested the cosmos. Their trip in this Altean pod out of the quantum rift had only just begun, and even Keith didn’t know what waited for them on the other side.

Two years had passed for him, but how long had it been outside?

His gaze turned, eyes averted from the Altean girl.

“Just…consider it a warning.”

It had only been a few weeks since the incident, since Shiro’s soul had come out of the black lion’s quintessence through Allura. He’d needed to recover from the whole ordeal, of course, and Keith respected that on the terms that he got to stay by Shiro’s side to watch him when the team had enough time to spare. He hadn’t slept much, and his neck was sore from falling asleep in the chair he’d set up, salvaged from the castle by someone who definitely was not him.

Thankfully, Shiro had recovered enough now that Keith didn’t need to (unintentionally) sleep in a chair, and while that was relieving, the newest black paladin still didn’t feel fully comforted by the thought of Shiro being well enough to...well...

“Shiro, I need to ask you something.”

Keith’s voice was quiet, unsure, worried, which wasn’t a normal tone for it to take. Sure, he’d softened up a little and matured when he was stuck in the quantum rift, but it was still a pretty uncommon tone. Gaze initially averted, he then looked up at Shiro, who’d turned to face him.

He was very suddenly aware of the scar on his cheek.

Just ask him.

“I...was wondering...do you remember anything about what happened to you-- well, your body-- after you were in the black lion?”
