A Curious Cabal

If Kayneth had known the other was immortal, he would have scoffed. If you have literally all the time in the world to waste why be bothered by someone who takes a few extra seconds to pass by you? Nevertheless, hearing those words hurt somewhere deep within Kayneth’s heart. The stranger wasn’t quite wrong, but there was still enough pride that the mage would take offence.
“Please. If I wanted to I could be infinitely more than a mere frustration.” If he had had access to the full catalogue of his magecraft. “Pushing and bullying your way to get what you want will obviously result in resistance. Or did you never learn that with what little education a boorish lout like you would have received?” Still, Kayneth relented, and began wheeling himself down the hallway again, muttering under his breath.
Unbeknownst to the Invoker Kayneth was whispering in Latin. “Fervor, mei sanguis.” From a nearby water bucket and mop, water began to trickle out and onto the floor, creating a magnificent puddle behind the mage. No one did petty like an Archibald.
“The ant is bound to have a few unsavory words for the boot it finds itself under. “ The Invoker did not try to bother and talk the other magus down, knowing it would be futile and a waste of perfectly usable oxygen. Now witnessing actual motion taking place on the other’s part, the Invoker continued along his path down the hallway, stopping to audibly groan once he found his boots covered in dirty water.
He didn’t immediately attribute this parlor trick to the figure wheeling in front of him, but he could have sworn that he murmured something before the unfortunate incident that ruined his shoes.
“ Hearken unto me, lame one. Did I hear minor incantation from your maw?”
