his scoff was met with an immediate reaction; her head creaked while turning until it finally just snapped in his direction.

"like what, inuyasha?" she feigns innocence with a sickeningly sweet smile, but her cadence on the word 'what' was a dead giveaway at the anger that lurked beneath the surface. he was teetering on a thin glass and if he wasn't careful now, it could be his undoing. most people would know to back down, but most people were not inuyasha. he was well known to testing his limits, especially when it came to her nerves.

“like  a  —  ”  but  he  pauses,  mouth  snapping  shut  with  an  audible  click  —  throat  suddenly  dry.    he  could  practically  hear  the  shift  &  grind  of  her  vertebra   as  she  rounded  on  him  &  that  tone  of  hers?  the  short  implication  that  lingered  just  a  little  too  sharply  leaves  him  hesitating  ever  so  slightly.  

he  should  reconsider  this  whole  interaction,  leave  her  alone  to  stew,  or  whatever  it  was  she  did  to  unwind  &  yet,  for  some  reason,  the  thought  of  leaving  her  in  this  state  made  his  claws  itch ;  his  fangs  ache.  he  wanted  to  help  —  wants  to  help.  but  —  

but  that’s  never  been  his  strong  suit.  &  given  the  fact  that  she  wouldn’t  even  confide  in  him,  he  had  no  idea  what  to  do  here.  

“this  is  stupid.”  is  what  he  finally  decides  on.  giving  a  pointed  sniff  as  he  settles  back  on  his  haunches.  if  she  wouldn’t  tell  him  what  was  eating  her,  then  the  next  logical  step  would  be  to  let  it  go.  right?  “yer  being  too  sensitive  —  i  don’t  see  what  the  big  deal  is.”

"i am not mad," kagome snapped—rather irritably, mind you, despite her efforts to appear otherwise. the warm smile that usually tugged at her lips, the shining glimmer of hope and passion forever illuminating in her eyes—they were all gone, replaced with long, deep creases and a simmering fire. at her sides, her hands were balled into tiny fists, her nails gently biting into the palms of her hands as if to distract her from the urge to outright punch something, or more specifically someone, right then and there—but that would be the behavior of someone who was indeed mad and she was not mad.

he absolutely DOES not flinch at the aggression in her tone. nor is he sitting there; ears momentarily flattened against his skull ; blinking wide eyes up at her & that shiver that had shot up his spine wasn’t…. that was not due to the spark of trepidation he felt in the wake of her. oh no, there had just happened to be a chilling gust of wind. 

that coincidentally blew at the same time. 

it had nothing to do with her, or the fact that he’d probably asked her why she was so angry one too many times. 

“yeah right.” he scoffs ; slitted golden hues snapping to regard the balls of her fists. “if yer so not mad, whys it you look like that?”
