having thought about it, hickey (hickeyn't? dunno what else to call him so hickey it is) probably got nakey to kill those guys so he wouldn't get any blood on his clothes, but I think it also reads as a kind of re-do and reclamation of the forced nudity of the lashing. the first time he was exposed it was to publicly humiliate him with sexualized violence, but the second time it made him shocking and frightening to the point of almost being uncanny.
