theo has told himself today, right before having a cup of black coffee, that he’s quitting smoking. and so his slender-fingered hand drowned itself inside his wasted coat’s pocket to take out a squashed pack of marlboro gold. a thick ghost of addiction found its place directly between his thin-lined lips. “my last one. i promise.” a delicate shadow of a smirk dressed up the corners of his mouth as he was barely mumbling, trying to hold the cigarette still. “i’ve made up my mind. i can write about mister guido and his tragic love affair. under one condition only — you have to go to rome with me to do the research. i can’t do it on my own. not with this one. i’m too old for lonely trips anyway.”

ariel doesn’t even need to look up from her screen to know exactly what he was doing. the familiar fumbling through his coat pockets followed quickly by the striking of a match. “i think you’ve been promising each cigarette is your last since i started working here.” hands lift to delicately close her laptop screen, resting back in her chair as he continues to speak. “me? why me?” though spending time in rome seemed lovely - and doing so with one of the only people at their job she could stand sounded even better, ariel’s quick to offer a nod of her head. “you know what? fuck it. i’m working on some fluff pieces that i could quite literally write in my sleep right now. and i’ll be damned if i’ve got to do all this mind numbing research without a glass of vino in my hand.” she’s propping her head up, resting it in her hand as she watches him through thick reading specs. “when do you leave?”
