hi all! just a real quick announcement regarding the ongoing sentence starters meme.
we made a mistake when posting the meme and realized too late to correct it on the post before everyone had reblogged it. the meme was never supposed to count for activity well into july; this was an error on our part!
we’re keeping the deadline to send memes until june 3rd, however the deadline for memes to count for activity is now june 10th. this is a week later than what we originally intended as an apology for any confusion over our mistake!
note that because these are sentence starters, any canon threads created based on the meme will count for activity the same as normal threads as long as they’re canon to both characters and continued in text posts. it’s only the initial ask/post that will no longer count after the deadline as there’s no way for the admods to tell if it’s just a meme response or the beginning of a longer interaction.
again, we’re super sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused. please let us know if you have any questions or confusion and we’ll do our best to straighten everything out!
these sentence starters may be used either as drabbles or as thread starters, canon or alternate universe. to let members know that you’d like to receive asks in your inbox for this meme, please reblog this post. and remember “rp karma”; the more memes you send out to your fellow members, the more you’re likely to receive!
this meme may be reblogged for the next two weeks, until june 3rd at 11:59pm. after this time, this post is no longer permitted to be reblogged and no new meme messages may be sent to inboxes. responses may be posted at any time, including after the deadline.
meme answers longer than 250 words may count toward activity, but only until the july 23rd activity check. responses posted after that time will not be sufficient to pass an activity check.

The Lunar New Year is an important milestone for people all over the world, rooted in tradition , faith, and culture, bringing about opportunities for reflection, celebration, and new beginnings. This year of the xin chou, or metal ox, is no different, predictions for this year rooted in wealth and prosperity, advancements in technology, and a forward movement of society.
For the witches of Seoul, the Lunar New Year is a sacred and ceremonious time, a time to recognize and revere their fae ancestors for their power, and to thank them for the magic they bestowed upon their descendants. And though each of five houses celebrates a little differently, their goal is the same: to honor the ancestors in a display of gratefulness, graciousness, and magical aptitude.
The three days of New Year’s celebrations are bustling with festivities and buzzing with magic, the first reserved for individual witch families. Children, adolescents, and unmarried young adult witches of all houses are encouraged, in the privacy of their own family homes or estates, to display new magic they’ve learned and perfected in the year prior for their parents, grandparents, and any other family elders who may be keen on witnessing the strength of their progeny. The solemnity and weight of this occasion may vary from household to household, some families treating it as cheerfully and frivolously as Christmas morning, and others as if it is a college entrance exam. On this day, familiars are often given gifts by their witches, usually small tokens of appreciation, sometimes in the form of a charm or a family heirloom. Familiars are also encouraged to gather separately with their own families for the day, essentially given the day off, a rare occurrence for bonded pairs (though, with the werewolf war looming, some witches and familiars may have opted out of this particular tradition).
On the second day, the witches and familiars of the city gather as houses, to pay homage to their oldest known magical ancestors in ways that might appeal to these fae elders specifically:
Wongyeong, based in tradition, diligence, skill, and lineage, holds a lavish house-wide tea ceremony, usually hosted at the home of the head of house. Those most promising unmarried witches of the Wongyeong house are hand-picked by Han Sayeon herself in the weeks leading up to the event, and will don traditional Wongyeong hanbok, pour tea for attending witches, and perform impressive feats of magic for their peers. Attending families will often use this event as a time to contemplate and honor their ancestors, some even blowing the dust off of the family books of deceased relatives to peruse, study, and appreciate. Newly engaged, betrothed, or married witches are encouraged to wear somewhere on their person a silk purse in traditionally Wongyeong colors, so that their elders and peers may acknowledge their success with money, good luck charms, herbs, treats, and blessings.
Gwiin is the house of indulgence, and their New Year’s celebration reflects that. Early in the day, the celebrations are family friendly, and young witches, aged four to twenty-four are encouraged to display some kind of artistic prowess in a house-wide talent show. Some young witches sing or dance or put on short plays, while others might share paintings or drawings. Even less conventional performances are encouraged, allowing for all sorts of possibilities: notable talents in the past have included (non-magical) magic tricks, acrobatics, cup stacking, snack tasting, baking, and animal handling. Ko Eunah and a panel of favored Gwiin educators and tutors act as judges for the events, and select three winners, who receive trophies, bragging rights, and a nice chunk of change to accompany their accomplishment. And though this is a markedly casual event, it is inevitable that parents of unmarried offspring may be surveying the acts for prospects of betrothal. The day is full of games for everyone in every family, and anyone seen frowning will be whisked away by a smiling neighbor to make sure they are enjoying themselves. Once the sun goes down and the young children and older elders go home to rest, the celebration turns into one of notorious debauchery, what Gwiin is known to specialize in, and it is common to joke that the night would be a failure if its adults do not arrive at the next day’s events late and thoroughly hungover. After all, a New Year is a sign of rebirth and new growth, and Gwiin are infamous for taking that a bit literally.
Kyegeum’s values of family, hospitality, and compassion echo throughout their day two celebrations. Known for their grand, hearth-warming feasts, New Year’s is a time for Kyegeum wishes to go all out in the kitchen. Some families might be known for signature dishes, whose recipes haven’t been touched in a hundred years. Other families might be more adventurous, hoping to invent the next best stew or cake or side dish. Many witches of this house might even fast starting the night before, in anticipation of the grand potluck to come. There is certainly a level of friendly competition to the event, of comedic rivalries between neighbors and light-hearted smack-talking from across tables. And though there is no official competition, and no reward, there is the unspoken rule that whichever dish runs out first will earn its creator bragging rights all the way through the next New Year. The night winds down with the cutting of a grand multi-tier cake, which is made by Lim Jeonghee and her family and hides within it two small twigs cut from the same orchid plant - it is said that the two witches who find an orchid twig in their slice may have been twin souls in a past life, and are destined to find their soulmates in this one.
Hanu celebrates the strength and resilience of their house through displays of just that, in a day-long bracket competition that incorporates a unique mixture of physical martial arts and magical combat. Each age group has its own favorites to win and its underdogs, and while the competition is friendly enough and serious injury is discouraged, there are always one or two duels where certain witches might get a little out of hand. As such, there are witches skilled in healing arts on standby to set broken bounds, seal open wounds, and dispel hexes, so that competing witches can recover swiftly, shake hands, and get back on the wrestling mat, as it were. Winners are rewarded with a money prize, and are paraded through the event on the shoulders of their peers, wearing any minor cuts and bruises as marks of pride. Over a dinner of popular street foods and boisterous celebration comes a traditional drum show played by a skilled group of house adolescents, to signify Hanu’s brute strength and camaraderie, while overhead booms a coordinated and colorful display of fireworks, also planned by a team of Hanu youth, and signifying their house’s courage and magical prowess.
For Jaeseung, day two of Lunar New Year events is a solemn one, as it marks a tragic anniversary in the house’s history. Nearly four hundred years ago, and not nearly long enough ago, Jaeseung house witnessed a massacre on its people, led by witches from Wongyeong and Hanu who were convinced Jaeseung was a house founded on stolen magic. Their New Year’s celebrations that year did not see the red of good luck, but that of death and destruction. And Though the house survived the attempted genocide, lives were lost on all sides, and Jaeseung found themselves hit the hardest, losing numbers in the hundreds, adults and children alike, until they feared extinction. They elected to go into hiding, to preserve the population that had survived, some going so far as to send children abroad, others hiding their faces behind veils and their children underground or in dense woods. To honor the sacrifices of the Jaeseung witches made those four centuries ago just to keep their bloodline alive, and to acknowledge their own mortality, and the honor it is to have the magic they do, today’s Jaeseung witches spend their second day in ceremonial mourning. Children are confined to their rooms with their oldest elder for meditation and reflection, and are encouraged to spend the day as their predecessors did: without electricity or technology, and as silent as the dead. Adults don traditional Jaeseung clothing in shades ranging from forest green to black, including a white veil over their faces, and make the journey on foot to the Jaeseung house cemetery to lay magnolias at the graves of the deceased. The day ends with a somber yet encouraging speech from Oh Inshik, reminding his house of the reality of fate, the importance of destiny, and the truth in inevitability, and a bowl of simple bone broth, in honor of their ancestors hardships.
On the third day, the day of the Lunar New Year, all five houses come together for one massive celebration. For as long as anyone can remember, this has been the case, each house taking annual turns in a steady rotation to host the event (with the exception of Jaeseung, who was excluded for nearly three hundred years until their post-war resurgence in the late 1950s). This year, it is Kyegeum who will host, paying homage to the metal ox, the ancestors, and all five houses with a theme they call Abundance In Harmony. The evening will begin with a traditional Lunar New Year parade, led by Kyegeum witches, which will lead into a whimsically decorated and generously catered outdoor event. Each house has been assigned one of the five elements, to represent that witches, as a species, are strongest when every house works with each other, the way the elements come together as the building blocks of life itself. Wongyeong will represent earth; Gwiin, fire; Hanu, wood; Jaeseung, water; and Kyegeum, Metal. These elements are meant as guidance for everything from attendees’ dress to how they will present themselves in the parade; it may influence the meals they are served and the favors (gifts of charms, flowers, herbs, and textiles) they receive.
Most Kyegeum witches and their familiars will spend the day, in some capacity, assisting with setup for the event, which will be not only complex, but costly, while witches and familiars from other houses will be preparing for the event at least hours before. Regardless of house, it is expected that all witches and familiars show up and show out. The wealthiest witch families will likely arrive in expensive and impeccably tailored clothing, while other families might pull out jewelry or other family heirlooms to wear. Traditional Korean dress is highly encouraged in the invitations sent out to all witch families, as are the respective colors of each house’s assigned element (gold for earth, white for metal, blue for water, red for fire, and green for wood). The night should be one filled with promises of good fortune and development, even despite the occasional whisper from some elders and their offspring that Jaeseung witches are living on stolen magic after all, and no keen parent with unmarried progeny would miss the opportunity to matchmake with some of the most elite witches in the community. Guests may anticipate performances of traditional and modern music, dance, and theatre; wine and soju tasting; a Go tournament; live portraiture; a large bonfire; and of course, plenty of mingling. The night will end in a square surrounded by magically fabricated trees of magnolias and wisteria, where guests may experience an immersive, colorful light show put on by the most talented Kyegeum house, composed entirely of magic, and projecting the stories, myths, and fables of the fae set to traditional music. The moral of the evening? Though there is no outrunning death, and in spite of the houses’ many differences, the witch population is strongest together, especially when it counts most: in the face of evil.

As the Lunar New Year approaches, so do new beginnings, an opportunity to start fresh and shed the burdens of the year about to end. However, the werewolves of Seoul do not have that opportunity, and it is clear in the air as the Year of the Ox looms with promise.
The tension between the city’s most powerful werewolf packs has only grown since Christmastime, and there isn’t a wolf in Seoul that hasn’t been affected by it. The packs are at each other’s throats, and noticeably on edge, less forgiving of the missteps of lone wolves and certainly lacking in patience for them. Because of this, any lone wolves still in Seoul with a sense of self-preservation might tread carefully, some even going so far as to rearrange their normal everyday routes and altering their lifestyles to avoid setting foot on Samgaksan or Seoulsup territory, and for good reason.
On February 8, a young unidentified werewolf is found dead on Seoulsup territory. Hong Daesung, leader of the Seoulsup Pack claims the body as one of their own and publicly accuses the Samgaksan Pack of overstepping a boundary and killing a wolf in cold blood. Samgaksan is threatened by the young pack to the south, Daesung claims, and this murder is a message: they’ve tolerated Seoulsup long enough, and their time in the city is at an end. Samgaksan’s alphas are quick to refute these claims, adamant that they had no part in the death of the young wolf nor did they give any such order, and that if it was one of their pack who committed such an offense, they would be dealt with swiftly. But in Daesung’s accusation, the alphas declare, he has offended Samgaksan’s pride, honor, and reputation, and they will not let that slide.
On February 10, Choi Jungmin and Ahn Minyoung declare that starting in the new year, any wolf not affiliated with their pack who is found on Samgaksan territory will be killed on sight.
This news spreads across Seoul’s supernatural population like wildfire, rumors shifting and evolving rapidly, the way they are wont to do. Daesung himself argues that this threat from Samgaksan is simply two alphas gone mad with power, so much so that they would bully the weak just to prove their influence. He uses this as reason enough to handpick a group of Seoulsup werewolves, whom he boldly leads across Samgaksan borders on the night of February 12. With Daesung’s orders comes chaos, a display of arrogance and rivalry as the Seoulsup wolves parade through Samgaksan territory, leaving their scent and a trail of destruction in their path, and go so far as to claim an outlying chunk of Samgaksan territory as their own. Samgaksan retaliates, and blood is shed. As the sun rises on the Year of the Ox, Jungmin and Minyoung officially declare war on the Seoulsup pack.
As word travels across the city of this declaration of war, the origins of it quickly become muddled, and even Seoul’s pack wolves may find themselves unsure of who started what and where it all began. But one thing has been made clear to the lone wolves of the nation’s capital: choose a side, or die.
Werewolves will find themselves the most affected about this deadly rivalry. While pack wolves boast the protection that comes with their affiliation, it is likely they have been instructed to travel in numbers, especially on stricter routine patrols, and to report any incident that might seem suspicious or out of the ordinary. Lone and unaffiliated wolves may find themselves pressured to pick a side: traveling through pack territory is risky, at best, and may result in an offer of recruitment, one that may reveal itself as a threat if refused. But choose carefully: Whether a wolf is inspired by their survival instincts or their morals, there is no clear indication of which pack may come out of the war the winner.
Hunters will undoubtedly catch wind of conflict between Seoul’s werewolf packs early on and may be on their toes to take advantage of it. While they are happy to let the wolves fight among themselves, it is their duty to make sure no humans are hurt in the process. Most hunters will be keen on making sure those fights stay away from civilian populations, and may even pick off any injured wolves they come across, regardless of affiliation. Some of the city’s more ambitious hunters will know that a pack’s leaders are most vulnerable in a time of war, and may act on this knowledge, hoping to bring back an infamous alpha’s head to hang on their wall.
Vampires will find themselves generally unaffected by the war, though they may notice the werewolves they encounter are more on edge and, in some cases, less forgiving of their presence. Some wolves may not be so kind to vampires traveling through their territory, while others will likely steer clear, to avoid being weakened in the midst of wartime. Vampires who regularly partake in the drinking of werewolf blood may notice a shortage at their favorite locations or sources, as most wolves are either fighting for a side or staying out of sight. The council will announce, as a part of a Lunar New Year briefing, that vampires should avoid getting involved in the conflict altogether, to avoid unnecessary losses or bloodshed.
Humans are a likely casualty as the city is quietly plunged into burgeoning violence. Those who are aware of the supernatural might tread carefully, as there is no telling what a startled werewolf might do if it feels cornered, even by a mere human. After all, humans are only one silver blade away from being a hunter. Even those who are less aware of the creatures that prowl Seoul’s streets will notice an increase in news reports about wild dogs and humans alike turning up mangled and mauled in districts that have otherwise been known to be perfectly safe. Urban legends of animal attacks, long-toothed bear men, and screaming ghost girls are rampant on forums and social media. Though the mayor has denied rumors of a curfew being put into place, there are some vocal proponents for one, and many citizens have taken to leaving work just a few minutes early and pulling their children out of study hall to make sure they make it home before dark.
Witches will likely find the war a glaring inconvenience as they gear up for upcoming New Year’s celebrations. New precautions are being taken and adjustments are being made to events that would otherwise be perfectly safe. Though most witches will remain completely neutral about the conflict between the packs, they may also find themselves spending a little extra time and magic on protection spells, charms, and potions, both for themselves, and for their superstitious human customers.
Familiars that are bonded may be affected by the stress riding on the shoulders of their witches. For all familiars, the war poses a threat from hunters, who do not bother to tell the difference between werewolf and familiar, and less experienced werewolves who might see their wolf-adjacent presence on pack territory as a threat. Bonded familiars would do well to avoid traveling throughout the city alone, and may even be advised toward house arrest by their witches, who likely wish to avoid any untimely werewolf-induced deaths.

HUNTERS may choose to attend the Christmas Festival as a welcome respite from their normally treacherous and strenuous duties, but it is safe to say many may be focused on a more imperative concern…
The SNU Children’s Hospital Christmas Festival is a highly anticipated event within the hunter community, but not for the same reasons as their willfully ignorant civilian peers: This year’s Head Hunt was a productive one, but was nothing short of brutal, and, as is customary in the holiday season, the leaders of the city’s hunter clans have banded together in search of new, promising talent to replenish the numbers they lost in October.
Near the stage, where live performers will cycle through all kinds of talents (dance numbers, stand up comedy, skits, character performances, karaoke), a booth will be set up during the festival, moderate in size with an awning emblazoned in bright green lettering: JIN FAMILY GYM.
At first glance, the tent looks normal, with broad-shouldered muscle men and svelte athletic women in matching black polo shirts handing out flyers, coupons, and vouchers to unsuspecting passerby. After all, the Jin Family Gym is known favorably for its clean facilities, diverse equipment, and effective trainers, and for having three convenient Seoul locations. But, should any of these workers spot someone with a certain glint in their eye or weight in their step, they will, with the flash of a grin and a strong handshake, suggest the stranger try their hand at the Jin Family Gym Olympics, an annual event of friendly competition where everyday civilians compete in feats of athleticism for a chance at winning a year of free gym membership.
The JFG Olympics will occur on Monday, December 28, at the gym’s location in Gangnam-gu and will consist of sprints, wrestling, martial arts, archery, fencing, shotput, and heavy lifting. Competitors may participate in as few or as many events as they like, or are able to. However, all competitors must complete an elaborate outdoor obstacle course to qualify.
Though marketed as a friendly, casual event, it is anything but: prominent hunters from all three clans will be in attendance, posing as gym employees, personal trainers, fellow competitors, referees, judges, and spectators. All hunters present are expected to bring in at least one civilian competitor, and will likely be judged themselves on the quality of the athlete. Those competitors who come out at the top of their event(s) will be pulled aside to ‘register’ for their free gym memberships, while those who do not emerge victorious will be ‘surveyed’ on their way out. Both sets of competitors will be thoroughly vetted in the process. Those who pass a rigorous set of qualifications may be handpicked for a chance to join one of Seoul’s hunter clans.
HUNTERS from all clans may or may not be in attendance at: the JFG booth at the Christmas Festival, the JFG Olympics in Gangnam-gu, and/or the registration and exit interviews.
HUMANS of all shapes, sizes, ages, and walks of life may choose to compete in the JFG Olympics. The gym’s membership isn’t cheap, and a free year of it is no small prize. However, athletes may begin to notice inklings of brutal and unforgiving competition the longer they stay to compete, as the events are meant to weed out the weak.
NON-HUMANS may choose to compete in the JFG Olympics for fun, to see how well they can blend in or how far they can get in the event without being detected, or simply as a snarky dig at the hunters of Seoul; as this is a highly public event, it is unlikely that any hunters present will slaughter any supernaturals on the spot. However, it is a good way to get a target painted on your back for any future encounters, should any keen hunter make note of your presence.
Hunter muses may participate in and thread about all events included in the JFG Olympics except for the final decision re: new initiates. All finalists selected for potential clan initiation must be approved by their respective clan head (i.e. any muses wishing to make the transition to the hunter genera must contact the main with proof of their muse’s participation, and will be subject to admod approval; only human muses may make the switch to hunter).
Just like the holiday event, until Saturday, January 16th, you may start new threads related to the JFG event. Please tag these with the tag fey; jfg. You may no longer start new threads about the event after that date, but existing threads may continue for as long as you wish. Have fun, and happy holidays!
The holiday season is here, and with it comes the spirit of giving. To celebrate, the Seoul National University Children’s Hospital is hosting a Christmas Fest in Gwanghwamun Plaza. From November 29 to December 23, the Plaza will be lit brightly with the colorful lights, sounds, and smells of the holidays. A large ice rink will be set up, framed by several booths and carnival games. Admission is free, but all activities are covered by a small donation fee, which is guaranteed to go directly to the Children’s Hospital to help fund research, treatment, surgery, and care. Two large tents will be set up for collecting donations of toys, coats, and school supplies; attendees may pay a donation fee to have their gifts wrapped, or they may utilize one of the large gift-wrapping stations to wrap their own presents. These tents are also where attendees may go to rent ice skates, purchase warm beverages, and rest under large outdoor space heaters.
Up until Saturday, December 5, guests may give a small donation in exchange for a large glass ornament, which they may decorate as they see fit. Supplies, including paint markers, confetti, glitter, stickers, and paper will be provided for this purpose, and guests are encouraged to write their Christmas wishes on small scrolls of paper, which are designed to slip easily into the ornaments. Once their ornaments are complete, guests may hang them on the large tree at the crown of the Plaza. On December 5 at 8pm, the tree will be lit up in a boisterous ceremony which will include a live appearance of the up-and-coming six-member boy group CYC7ONE, who will perform songs from their latest album, as well as an entrance from Santa Claus himself, who will be at the festival every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with a live reindeer to hear wishes and pose for photographs with eager guests.
HUMANS will find any number of activities to partake in at the Christmas Fest, including a blood drive, where guests, especially universal donors (those with type O- blood) are encouraged to donate a pint of blood, in exchange for meal vouchers that can be used at various locations in the district, including many of the food trucks parked near the event. There will also be a table to purchase CYC7ONE’s latest album, which will act as a ticket for admission into a fan-sign occurring on-site on December 12.
VAMPIRES will make note of said blood drive; due to internal connections with the council, and a generous donation from the council to the hospital, about half of the blood collected is designated for various vampire vendors, and will be sold discreetly out of a tent disguised as a refreshments booth. Vampires wishing to purchase their own bloody refreshment may order tomato soup, with the special request to “hold the garlic,” a humorous homage to their mythical history. Vampires who do make a stop at the specialized refreshments booth may run into members of CYC7ONE, who are, in fact, vampires themselves.
WITCHES and FAMILIARS may notice magic radiating off the Santa Claus performer and his reindeer companion if they are keen enough, as the boisterous-looking elderly man is, in fact, a witch himself, the reindeer his familiar (If you look extra closely, you might recognize the head of Jaeseung himself). If he senses goodness in his guests, they may, in fact, wake up Christmas morning to an item from their wish list tucked under their tree or in a safe corner of their home.
WEREWOLVES are welcome to attend the event just like anyone else, but most are keenly aware of tension in the air, which has been brewing recently between the city’s largest packs. Though there have been no tangible incidents outside of a few territorial scuffles between betas, it is safe to say Christmas cheer has been dampened for werewolves by the scent of burgeoning rivalry in the atmosphere, only made worse by the natural gathering of wolves from different packs and walks of life meeting at large communal events such as this one. And though Jungmin and Minyoung are generally lax about territory under circumstances such as these, is it unclear whether or not any wandering wolves may come out of this one unscathed.
HUNTERS may choose to attend the festival as a welcome respite from their normally treacherous and strenuous duties, but it is safe to say many may be focused on a more imperative concern…

Halloween on its own is a special day for a city full of fae descendants. Halloween under the second full moon of the month, a Blue Moon, is something exceptional, and all the superhuman citizens of Seoul should expect nothing less.
For WEREWOLVES, it is a bane: Not one, but two full moons in one month. Even the most prominent pack may see itself strained for resources if it isn’t properly prepared with twice as much food, shelter, and restraints. Any lone wolves should tread lightly, for they are easy pickings to anyone who might be hungry for a kill.
For VAMPIRES, this unique Halloween moon may be something of a blessing. Under the light of the October 31st Blue Moon, vampires may notice a shift in the air: mouths watering at the faint scent freshly cooked street foods instead of the pulsating aroma of pumping blood, skin growing goosebumps with the chill of an evening autumn breeze, their own pallor turning pink and plump, lungs filling with air involuntarily, sounds muting and melding into things faint and indecipherable, fangs receding into short, dull canines… On this night, the moonlight blesses (or curses) any vampire it touches with temporary mortality. For some vampires, this is a dream come true, an hours-long chance to eat the foods they’ve craved, love the humans they feared they might hurt, walk among the living as one of them. For others, it is a temporary and inconvenient affliction, being stuck with the dumbed down senses of humans, the mediocre sight and smell, the weakness that comes with mortality. Regardless of how they may feel about the change, it is inescapable as long as the Hallow’s Eve Blue Moon is in the sky, once every 19 years.
For WITCHES, and their FAMILIARS, it is a night of celebration and indulgence. Halloween is rife with magical energy as it is, add a Blue Moon and most witches may feel unstoppable. As is custom, the young heads of Gwiin and Hanu’s event planning committee will come together to host a massive gathering of Korea’s young witches, encouraging among the young adults of the witch community, socialization, and the exchanging of the magic, knowledge, and power (is that what the kids are calling it these days?) that is so strong on Halloween. Drinks will be bottomless, competitions involving feats of strength and magical prowess will be rampant, seances and summonings will be a dime a dozen, and the hosts will see to it that no guest will want for any indulgence, no matter how taboo. It is common for even the strictest of elder witches and familiars to turn a blind eye to the inevitable debauchery of the evening, as their elders did for their own Halloween celebrations. The most advice they may give their offspring is to be careful: There is always one witch who seems to go mysteriously missing, or mad, or both, at the Gwiin-Hanu Halloween Haunt.
For HUNTERS, it is a tournament: The Hunter’s Moon, regardless of the day it falls on, marks the Annual Head Hunt, a bloody competition among all local hunting clans that rewards the hunter who brings back the most supernatural heads by sunrise with state-of-the-art weapons, bragging rights, and cold, hard cash. It just so happens that this year’s Hunter’s Moon happens to fall on Halloween, and a Blue Moon, raising the stakes (pun not intended, so they say) of the Head Hunt exponentially. Rumor has it there will be notorious and ancient bloodsuckers wandering the streets of Seoul trapped in the bodies of mortals for just a few hours. Not to mention the countless werewolves trapped in their wolf forms for the night. And, should a hunter dare to take on a witch made stronger by this Halloween’s Blue Moon, they may add an impressive head to their lot, assuming they survive to tell the tale.
On top of all of this, a Halloween rooted so close to the fae means a veil opened between the world of the living and the world of the dead. Mortals and supernaturals alike may find themselves glimpsing the very corporeal faces of loved ones long gone in the crowd, may suddenly see their late relatives sitting across the table for dinner, may feel the tangible embrace of a lost lover from behind. As if they have sapped the immortality out of the vampires rendered mortal by the night’s special moon, spirits of the dead walk the surface of this plane as humans, sentient and corporeal, albeit waxen and haunting. Their speech may be limited to the words they said in life, and they may only travel between familiar locations, and only those with at least one living person connecting them to this realm may appear, but they are very real and very eager for a night of reunion. However, not all spirits have rested in peace, and some may be out and about seeking vengeance, satiation, or the completion of unfinished tasks. Hunters and witches take note: Any spirit killed with silver on this night may never rest again.
Tread carefully, citizens, for no one, mortal or immortal, will make it far while trying to outrun the dead.
Happy Halloween.

INTRODUCING LIMITED CHARACTERS
During the Hunter’s Moon event, members (or anyone interested in joining the directory) are able to apply for a limited time special genera: Ghosts. The application for these temporary characters can be found here. Ghost characters are only tangible and able to interact with the living on Halloween, so these characters will only be allowed in the directory for the duration of the event; following the deadline for this event, ghost characters will be removed.
Because these are special limited time characters, normal activity check rules do not apply. While you do need to write weekly to keep them in the directory for the duration of the event, members do not necessarily need to pass second and third muse activity requirements. Ghosts are also temporarily available as a fourth muse without any additional requirements.

at 11:00pm, on the dot, the music dims to quiet and the crowd chatter seems to dominate the patio until minah’s voice sounds over the speakers.
“thank you all so much for your generous donations. i’ll be quick about letting you get back to the festivities, but first, it’s time to announce the winners of our incredible raffle prizes.”

august 21, 2020 marks the 999th anniversary of the formation of the vampire council in korea. for hundreds of years, the council has led the peninsula’s ever-growing vampire population, establishing the four rules, maintaining leadership and order, and assuring the safety and secrecy of korea’s vampire community. to celebrate, an annual charity gala is held, with silent auctions of everything from ancient vampire-owned artifacts to a meal with council members themselves. in addition to the silent auction, admittance ₩120,000 per head, but larger donations are both encouraged and expected. while thirty percent of the proceeds goes to the council itself, the remaining seventy goes to various local charities to support the community and its members in need.
this year’s annual council charity gala will be held at the chariot hotel in jung-gu, which is known for its lavish accommodations, prime river-front views, and elegant interior and architectural designs that combine the influence of both modern and traditional korean culture. jo hoon is known for pulling out all the stops for important events, and the gala is no exception. reserved facilities include the three-story rear lobby, where silent auction tables will be set up among impressive flower arrangements, art pieces, and traditional dancers; the scarlet room, a restaurant repurposed for the evening for vampires to dine privately on the volunteer human and werewolf donors available for sampling; three bar lounges providing a variety of blood types on tap alongside normal alcoholic beverages for human guests; and the patio, where comfortable seating, live music, and a dance floor will be set up for guests’ enjoyment. the dress code for this event is black tie attire.
the doors will open at 8:00pm sharp. dining and mingling is encouraged throughout the night, and many lucky attendees may encounter members of the council in the flesh. after his short welcome speech at 8:30, hoon can be spotted greeting and schmoozing with esteemed guests, while minah can most likely be found showing off the generous donations being auctioned for the evening and urging attendees to purchase raffle tickets for a chance at winning the evening’s grand prize. the elusive hayan will most likely spend the night tucked away in a reserved corner of the scarlet room with gyeowool and narabit, speaking in low voices and sampling the event’s volunteer meals.
the pies de resistance of the gala is the grand prize raffle, which awards a single winner a lot of three enchanted rings circa 201 AD, as well as photo opportunity with the entire council. the rings are old enough that they may have belonged to the fae themselves, and each ring is cast in solid gold and boasts its own unique enchantment: the first changes color in the presence of danger, the second in the presence of supernaturals, and the third in the presence of the wearer’s ailment or injury. other raffle prizes include a three night’s stay at the chariot hotel, a pair of round-trip business class plane tickets to vienna, austria, and a private meal with the council member of their choosing. tickets are ₩75,000 a piece, or ₩300,000 for five, and can be purchased at a bar, or from any hotel staff roaming the venue. the raffle will close at 10:45pm.
at 11:00pm, minah, accompanied by her fellow council members, will take the mic on the patio and make a speech thanking their honored guests and announcing the winner of the raffle. all silent auction winners can expect to receive their prizes hand-delivered within 24 hours.
guests are encouraged to reserve accommodations at the chariot, or at nearby venues, so that they may enjoy the night’s festivities, which are expected to go well into the wee hours of the morning, without risking any unfortunate run-ins with the sun.
all vampires currently living in or visiting the country are strongly encouraged to attend. though the event is not officially mandatory, the council will make note of attendance and, consequently, any absences. any vampires unable to afford the entry fee are welcome to petition the council in advance for a fee waiver, which will most likely be covered by another generous vampire guest.
for the safety of the community, the gala is an exclusive event, and security will be tight. any non-vampires must be accompanied by a vampire attendee. vampires bringing non-vampire guests will be held responsible for the actions and well-being of their guests, and any breach of the council rules will be handled accordingly. there are no weapons of any kind permitted in the gala, and any offending paraphernalia will be confiscated at the door.
witches are common guests at the gala, often as donors of auction lots, including magical artifacts, potions, spells, and readings. for the same reason, many witches attend with the intent of perusing the auctions, seeking out items, artifacts, and ingredients that may otherwise be impossible to find. ambitious witches may hope to receive an invitation from a vampire for the sole purpose of mingling at such a high profile event. rumor has it that ko eunah, the head of gwiin herself, will be in attendance.
for the purposes of inclusion of their witch peers, familiars are considered an extension of witches themselves, and may attend the gala with their bonded witch free of charge. unbonded familiars may receive entry into the gala with the invitation of a vampire, or, if they are unable to procure such, an attending witch.
human attendees are uncommon but not unheard of, but must be accompanied by a vampire to receive entry into the event. humans may also register in advance to act as blood donors. volunteers will be compensated with a two-night stay at the chariot, free meals for the duration of their stay, access to on-site medical staff, and a modest travel stipend of ₩ 200,000.
werewolf attendees are even rarer, and must also be accompanied by a vampire to attend. werewolf volunteer donors receive the same compensation and accommodations as their human counterparts. a handful of werewolves who have been thoroughly screened and vetted may work the event as security support, assisting vampire security in keeping an eye out for unruly attendees and screening entrants at the door.
a few bold hunters might attempt to infiltrate the gala, but may be hard-pressed to find a vampire willing to sponsor their entry. however, many local hunters often station themselves in the areas surrounding the venue, hoping to pick off a few unsuspecting supernaturals as they trickle in and out of the event.

summer is right around the corner in the northern hemisphere, and, to mark its astronomical beginning, get ready for 2020’s summer solstice!
set to happen on sunday, june 21th (at exactly 6:43 am kst), the day of the solstice is also the longest of the year with over fourteen hours of sunlight available. because of that, vampires, particularly fledglings, find themselves in an uncomfortable situation. going outside will be nearly impossible for most vampires until well past 8 pm, which makes them easy targets to entrap by hunters and werewolves alike.
the vampire council has prepared a safehouse for vampires seeking shelter from the extended period of sunlight in a location on the outskirts of seoul, strategically placed near natural occurrences that they may use in their favor. this is a rare opportunity for all vampires to take the time to mingle outside of the annual meetings mandated by the council.
on the opposite end of the city, hunters are making the most out of the daylight. the elders have decided to hold a training camp open to all seoul clans, so both young and experienced hunters can practice their skills with less risk of disrupting the fragile balance between all genera. obstacle courses and field tracks have been set in an open field for endurance training, and a small sparring championship is also being held, with most bets favoring, of course, members of the song clan. it’s a great opportunity for the elders to assess and measure the strength of the clans, and for young and less experienced hunters to show off their fighting skills.
finally, witches should also be busy during this day, as there are spells that can only be completed with ingredients collected at the exact time the sun is closest to the planet. the flowers available at the eunbong mountain by the han river are especially sought after, and it’s common to spot fellow witches performing rituals at the eight-sided pagoda at the top of the mountain.

every year, for ten years, on the first weekend of may, and on the coattails of the city’s famous cherry blossom festival, the paved walkways of yeouido park are lined with a row of colorful booths, and the everyday crowd becomes interspersed with excited tourist and curious local alike. this is the yeouido psychic fair, a charming and bustling market allowing local psychics and relevant vendors to emerge from their niches and sell their craft and their wares to a more mainstream consumer base. starting on friday, may 1st at 10am and ending sunday, may 3 at 11pm, anyone who visits the fair may join in on the festivities, from vendors selling crystals, incense, and candles to psychics offering discounts on palm and tarot readings and seances alike. there are food trucks and tents, booths offering chakra cleansings, massages, tattoos, and piercings, and shops selling books, shirts, jewelry, and other relevant and eye-catching miscellany.
though the fair primarily attracts the occult-curious human and the less-than-genuine psychic, local supernaturals have taken interest in the event in the last few years. if one looks closely enough, and knows what they are looking for, they may be able to decipher the occasional real fey-descended witch among the sea of non-magical frauds. these witches may, at the right price, sell spells, potions, and readings normally kept safely tucked away in their own family spellbooks. additionally, certain tattoo and piercing booths have long since upgraded, promising permanent results to those genera who normally heal through any body modification.
witches are the most common of the genera to attend the yeouido psychic fair, both as vendor and consumer. it is one of the rare occasions when witches eagerly exchange goods and services across house lines, picking up supplies or spells that another house’s witches may specialize in (though house wongyeong is notorious for keeping their specialties under lock and key and rarely attending the fair as vendors; you’ll be hard-pressed to find a wongyeong tea set or sleeping drought sold anywhere). it is also, of course, a good, albeit informal, occasion for witches to socialize with other witches outside of their house, and young unmarried witches are often encouraged to do so by their relatives, in hopes of meeting a potential match. likewise, familiars often attend the fair in significant numbers, to both familiarize themselves with unmatched witches and the evolution of witch house practices.
the biggest appeal to most attending vampires and werewolves is the availability of tattoos and piercings laced with precise amounts of diluted iron, silver, vervain, and/or wolfsbane that are virtually harmless, but likely permanent. however, there has been an increase of vampire attendance over the past couple of years, due to the growing presence of willing ‘blood donors’: humans who will bare their necks to thirsty vampires, for a price.
but all fae be wary, for the supernatural appeal of the event has not gone unnoticed by the city’s hunters, who are likely on the prowl for a misstep from any fae-related, vampire, werewolf, familiar, and witch alike.
