Have you heard of the mass resignation? There’s so many teachers quitting because they aren’t being respected at jobs. My sister is a teacher in training and her mentor was talking about it (she’s a special Ed/counselor teacher) and how her mentor is quitting soon. I’m still in school and I’ve already had a teacher quit on us (now barely anyone in my class actually tries since our new teacher(s) is horrible)
What can we do?
The "great resignation" is happening across all industries. The pandemic has forced people to rethink what they want out of their careers. They're demanding more from their employers and quitting when they don't budge.
Teachers are no exception, especially when you consider how underpaid and underappreciated they've been for years now. It was only a matter of time. It's sad because we need more, not less, teachers. That's only going to happen when we invest more in public education and pay teachers what they deserve.
That’s the thing. Imagine yourself, as you are right now, being responsible for the emotional development of over 30 children, how would you cope with that? Parenting or teaching is the most daunting thing in the world because we we damaged humans understand what trauma does to a person. This job, much as being a parent, a nurse, an anything has become less. Do you do feel this?
