Man fighting gorilla British boys’ paper, Adventure No. 972, June 15, 1940, six Grim Tests for Strang the Terrible. The issue also featured the Human Torpedo; Black Star’s League of Gunmen, and The Night Hawk. Although he dressed in animal skins, Strang was not a Tarzan-like character, but a world-traveling adventurer. While appearing in Adventure, he also had a comic strip in the Beano, drawn by Dudley D. Watkins.

Some of these were made for zines. The bears and “Aged to a Tee” are from “The Seasons” zine with poems by Michael Robbins (Walkman, Alien vs. Predator). The guy with a book under his foot is the cover to “Windy but Nice” with poems by Tomaz Salamun (Woods and Chalices) co-published by Black Ocean.
