🚗 A Witch's Car
Hang a safe travels, protection, or swift travels amulets in the car.
After every car wash and vacuum, sprinkle protection powder/black salt underneath the car mats.
When your car is dirty, draw sigils on it with your finger on the dirt and grime.
Draw sigils after every car with a cloth as you wipe the water off.
Feathers in the glove compartment or door pockets for swift travels.
Anoint seatbelts with travles, protection, and success oils.
I'd avoid oil on the steering wheels and pedals as you can slip.
For long travels, brush your car outside with mugwort, especially the wheels.
Hag stones in your left car door to receive protection and luck.
Bath in feverfew (or spray some on you) before a long journey. Keep feverfew in the car too. It prevents paranoia of accidents, at least it eases my mind.
General lucky amulets, like four leaf clover, should be kept in the car.
Deities of travels and swiftness could have a small dedicated altar in your glove compartment. It can be the whole compartment or just a pocket altar kept in there.
Have an Eight of Wands Tarot card on you as you travel for speed and progress.
Prevent accidents by having wormwood in the car.
Obtain a small car toy or carve one yourself. Obtain something of your real car, be it dirt that's been there for months, mat shavings, etc. Combine your real car piece with your toy car. Anything you anoint this toy car with, will happen to your car. Useful for when it's at the mechanic and you can dress the toy car in healing oils.
Music in the car to scare malevolant spirits away.
Sunglasses in the car is a good idea for those bright days, especially after it has rained. Enchant them with clearer sight.
Success oil on your driver's license.
Sigil or protection powder on your car keys.
Glamour spells on the sun visor mirror.

Introduction to Shielding
If you haven’t already, check out my lessons on visualisation for the basic knowledge you’ll need to begin practicing shielding.
So what is shielding?
Shielding is a manipulation of energy, used to create a barrier between yourself and unwanted, usually negative or malicious energies. It’s a basic aspect of spellwork that everyone, beginner or experienced, should use to keep themselves safe.
What can I use shielding for?
Some beginner-level uses for shielding are drawing a circle, or casting a spell. A more experienced individual might use shielding in astral travel or spirit work, where there are a lot more malicious energies involved. Personally, I use shielding as often as possible, for instance when I do tarot readings, spells, spirit work, shadow work, and especially cursing. It gives that extra guarantee that you won't flood your personal space with unwanted energies.
Other uses include shielding against real-life dangers, to a certain degree. I often shield when I am walking through town at night for extra protection. But please remember to take other measures too! Call someone, pretend to be on the phone, plan your route, and even carry pepper spray if it's legal where you are.
An easy shielding method:
The easiest way to explain this is to think of your energy as a physical manifestation. Think how power attacks are shown in anime or cartoons - a streak of colour or light, or an element. Make it personable to you: fire signs (Leo/Aries/Sagittarius) might visualise fire, or a red energy or light etc.
Firstly, some people prefer to cleanse before shielding. I don't think its all that necessary but the choice is yours.
Begin by easing yourself into meditation. Get comfortable, and use whichever technique works for you. I have various methods for this in my visualisation lessons if you are struggling.
Attempt to visualise the energies surrounding you in your mind. It might be a swirling colour of light, almost like a cloud of dust. It could be flames, it could be water. Maybe try to see it held within your hand.
Now, attempt to shape this energy around your entire body. You might want to start with a bubble or a cube surrounding you. Feel this shape surrounding and protecting you. Visualise negative and unwanted energies being held back by it.
You can also layer shields, so if you are working with a particularly malicious energy you might want to have multiple shapes surrounding you, all within each other. You can also work with deities or spirits to ask them to shield you too.
Shielding Incantation
When I am shielding, I recite a spell as well as using visualisation techniques.
The shield of protection, I carry it strong, No ill wishes or trouble shall come along, You cannot harm me, or weaken my soul, My light is my weapon, and peace is my goal.
Try it out for yourself and let me know in the comments how it went! Thank you as always for reading. Please message for requests.

In ancient Chinese culture, pearls were used in artwork, folktales, and charms to represent wishes, fortunes, gratitude, and even the moon:
Marquis of Sui’s Pearl, a gemstone in a folktale dating back to the Warring States period (475-221 BCE), is given to a leader, Sui, from an injured snake that he nurses back to health, as a symbol of gratitude.
In Hindu and Buddhist traditions, The Chintamani (equivalent to the importance of The Philosopher’s Stone in alchemy) is known as a wish-fulfilling jewel that is sometimes depicted as a pearl.
In Chinese artwork, dragons may be seen holding or playing with a “flaming pearl” – in this context, some believe the pearl may be representative of “an object of great value that enhances the benign dragon who treasures it”, however it is more commonly (especially in Westerners) believed to be a cosmological symbol of the moon – in fact, there is an ancient belief that full moons are solid pearls, while new moons are hollow pearls.
In holistic circles, pearl powder is also known to help you with longevity, beauty, bone-health, among many other (non-FDA approved) benefits – and in Ayurvedic medicine, pearl is said to be an antidote for poison, and it was also used in love potions.
Knowing the traditional symbolism of pearls in Chinese and Eastern cultures, as well as its (supposed) medical benefits and Ayurvedic uses, we can create our own Correspondences for Utilizing Pearls in Witchcraft:
The Moon
The inner/subconscious-self
Wishes
Gratitude
Abundance
Love
Beauty
Longevity, good health
Pisces, cancer
Hidden knowledge
Uses for pearls (or pearl powder) in modern witchcraft:
Use pearl powder as highlighter in makeup for an easy glamor-spell
Mix with salt and other herbs associated with abundance to make “money-salt” for money spells
Add whole pearls or sprinkle pearl powder in your money bowl
Blow pearl powder onto your front door at the beginning of each month to bring abundance to your home
Write down a secret or something you want to get off your chest, and bury it with a pearl to keep it ‘hidden away’ from others
Make a wish with a pearl by leaving it out in a rainstorm, or dropping it into a natural body of water (pond, lake, etc).
Offerings to sea-related or beauty-realted deities
Fun pearl facts:
Genuine pearls (and pearl powder) doesn’t burn! Pearls may discolor, but they shouldn’t go up in flames.
Pearls are made as oysters try to protect themselves from irritants or parasites – they add layers and layers of this ‘pearl’ coating to intruders, and viola!
Pearls are the only gemstone that come from a living creature
Pearls come in many colors
Pearls are obtained from oyster farming – which is actually beneficial to the environment! Additionally, pearls can be harvested without killing oysters.
Be careful when shopping for pearls – many places do not sell genuine pearls and they may be fake. Use caution when looking to purchase!

Mariners protection spell jar recipe 🫙🌊
A simple protection jar (or pouch) for beachcombers, sailors, or all other individuals who wish for some protection when in the domain of Poseidon and the ocean.
(*You do not need all of these to make the jar or pouch, any one or any combination of these should theoretically work as long as your intentions are faithful)
✨ = what I used in my jar
~ Saltwater: (jar only) ✨
~ Sand: (pouch or jar) ✨
~ Aquamarine crystal (any size or quality is equally effective, wether a chip or tumble) ✨
~ Beach glass
~ Dried sage
~ Greek protect kharakter ✨
~ Thurizaz rune
The jar can be any size, wether that’s a shelf sized mason jar, or a pocket sized herb jar, and you can bury it, place it at an altar, or wear it in your purse or pocket, and it will act as a ward against threats from the sea and it’s ferocity.

Water types and their magical properties
Black water: a modern invention that is sold in many stores. It is infused with trace “fulvic” minerals that turn it black and make it very alkaline. It can be used during the dark half of the year's Sabbats and for shadow meditations, shadow work, shadow magic, or anything else that is nocturnal. Some wells produce water that is black or turns items touched by it black, but this water is not safe to ingest, while black water purchased from a store is. St. Joseph's Well, located in the crypt of the Lady Chapel of Glastonbury Abbey, is widely considered to have black water.
Brackish water: occurs where fresh-water rivers meet salt water. This mix of fresh and salt water can be substituted for fresh or salt water, and carries its own calming but darker energy. The shorelines are liminal places full of healing and death, balance and bane, with yarrow growing among the poison hemlock. Use this water in magic to merge with or to enter the “betwixt and between.”
Dew: collected at dawn on May 1st (Beltane), it brings power to beauty rituals and spells.
Fog and mist: useful especially to access the Otherworld. Mist can be used as a portal, especially during the liminal hours of dusk and dawn. Meditating, walking, or sitting in a light trance state while a fog or mist rolls in creates an environment that calms the mind and allows you to connect with or even enter the Otherworld.
Hail or sleet: collected during or after a storm, it comes from the sky in a furious frozen state. Keep it frozen or melt it and store it in a bottle. It is generally used for cursing and can make a great base for War Water, an aggressive formula containing water and rust that is used for physical and psychic protection, spiritual cleansing, and to place or reverse a curse.
Marsh, bog, swamp, and canal water: dark dirty water that is imbued with decaying plant matter and has become stagnant. These waters can be used for darker magic, ancestral work, and to hide, cover, or mask. Swamp water is full of mystery and poison. Toads, snakes, and spiders lurk within the grooves of hollowed trees and mingle with the reeds peeking above the surface of these waters. Swamp waters can be found all over the world, and can be used for any type of magic.
Mud: water and earth mixed together. It is mysterious and messy. You can use it as an earth element and to bury old worn-out cycles, or for grounding.
Sea water: has unlimited uses. It can be used for work with spirits and water deities; with a prayer or blessing, it can be used as holy water, as it is already salty. It has many useful healing properties and can be used for healing, protection, charming, and cleansing. It is also useful in banishing rituals.
Fountains and pools: Water pumped through homes, heaters, and fountains is sometimes chlorinated. When I first started to encounter water spirits, I looked to the old and traditional ways. As my practice expanded, however, I found that these waters also had both personality and spirit and could be used in my personal work. If you live near or around these types of manmade waters, you can still develop a relationship with them and use them for specific and personal purposes.
Pond and lake water: typically calm and serene and often resembles a mirror. Use lake water to discover mysteries. Lakes are considered portals and many creatures dwell in and under them. These waters are good for relaxation or revitalizing spells. If you are in an argument with someone, use lake water to “calm” the situation. Because of its still surface, lake and pond water is also useful in scrying—divining or foretelling the future by gazing. Lakes are like mirrors, and so support self-reflection. They can also be used in watery mirror work and vision journeys as a portal to the watery realms.
Rain water: ideal medium for water magic. I work with three major types of rain: water from sun showers, “dreary water,” and water from thunderstorms. Sun-shower water can be used for healing, nourishment, and solar magic. It is a great base for Florida Water—a perfumed water made with various herbs and flowers. What I call “dreary water” occurs when a light rainfall continues for days, typically accompanied by gray skies and cool temperatures. Collected over several days, this water is great for shadow work, resting, rejuvenation, invisibility, and protection. Thunderstorm water is fierce. It can be used in aggressive magic, cursing, and in any spell that needs a really big power-packed punch! It's particularly effective if you can safely collect and work with water from a large storm like a hurricane, but always remember to make safety your priority.
River water: fast-moving water that can be used in conjunction with or in place of the Chariot card in the tarot to speed things up. If you need something to move along quickly, find a river and work with its water. It is also useful for aggressively cleansing your energetic body of impurities and negativities. Sit in a river with the directional flow hitting your back to enhance a purging or cleansing visualization. (I often use the phrase “Send it down the river!”) Launch little boats made of twigs and leaves and send them down the river with the intent of getting rid of something or someone. Rivers, canals, and streams can be used for spells involving moving forward, change, getting unstuck, and sending things away. The Celts believed that evil spirits could not cross running water, so rivers are also useful for escaping an astral enemy. Remember, however, that bodies of water that flow freely will have energy different from that of stagnant canal systems.
Snow or ice: can be kept frozen or placed in a jar or bottle and allowed to melt. It is great for winter water magic. Like all ice magic, it can “freeze” your enemies in place. Likewise, the act of defrosting will help you get “unstuck” and move to a more flexible place. It can also be used to defrost an enemy's icy heart. Draw sigils in snow for temporary binding or to help unbind.
Spring and well water: fresh waters that literally “spring” up from below the ground. These waters are usually crystal clear and are often associated with mystery, mythology, and folklore. They can be used in healing magic and to connect with water fae. They were also used to remove curses and enchantments, and to place curses—often for a fee.
Waterfalls: some of the most beautiful waters. Some flow all year, while others are seasonal. This water is useful in cleansing and purification, and in rites of birth and beauty.

Beginner's Sea/Water Witchcraft
Hey, beginners!
I've posted a few of these (one of which earlier today) and so far people have been really receptive, so I thought I'd keep going! It's really fun to connect with all of you & share more knowledge / experiences! This post's topic is about sea/water witchcraft! This post is quite extensive compared to my other ones that I've made like this, because it kind of branches into various topics, but all have to do with water/sea witchcraft!
As my usual disclaimer, this is simply my knowledge and my teachings that I've come across & developed through research, speaking with others, cultural teachings, etc. However, everyone has the right to believe what they like, I just hope this serves as beneficial to some of you somehow, whether it be providing information you resonate with or just teaching you something cool.
Lastly... BEFORE DOING ANYTHING: SET UP THOROUGH PROTECTIONS!

Beginner-Friendly Practices for Sea Witches (Give + Take: Mutuality)
Working with the ocean can be as simple as giving and being given to. It requires self-reflection, and it requires working in relationship with the ocean and the land.
Pick up trash: Cleaning up litter around the beach/water. It shows that you care and are considering the ocean and its inhabitants and relatives. This can be done as an offering, gift, favor, or just because!
Offerings: Giving food, aquatic items, etc (biodegradable or safe for the sea/land/creatures) to the waves/sand (also counts for returning items that belong to the ocean!)
Accept gifts, don't steal: Taking only what is being given to you by the ocean (for example, your intuition might tell you to turn around, and when you do, you spot a sand dollar -- that sand dollar is intended for you, a gift. If you bump a shell with your foot, it may have been meant for you. If you tripped on a shell, it’s probably not meant for you - it just tripped you! You can take that as an accident or a sign.)
Connection: Sitting by or in the waves; putting your hands and/or feet in the water (this may be calming or grounding). Quality time and good company is always a friendly gesture!
In my opinion: We can learn a lot from the ocean. We can receive many blessings from it. It’s only right that we do something in return. We are symbiotic with water. It’s important that we value it.
Water Types & Common Uses/Properties
Disclaimer: The following list is nuanced, as it can change depending on culture or practice. I tried to be inclusive, but this is a brief guide. Depending on your practice, make sure you are mindful with your intentions and energy work, be aware of what properties you'd like to utilize and which you wouldn't.
River water: Flow, movement, travel, banishing (cleanse yourself of ill health, negativity, etc, as you let abundance, good health, prosperity rain down on you), communication with the spirit world. Often associated with creation, fertility, and purification
Ocean water: Purification (cleanses & refreshes), healing (in many ways, one of which is deep shadow work), power, divination, opens energy centers
Lake water: Peace, stillness, divination, knowledge, strength
Storm water: High energy, force, personal power, big changers, chaos
Holy well water: Blessings, healing, purification, protection
Dew: Renewal, healing, beauty
Moon water: Lunar energy (depends on the moon phase), emotions, empathy, intuition, intentions
Sun water: Solar energy, illumination, power
Floral / herbal waters: Holds the energies of those plants
Snow / ice: Stagnation, stillness, getting unstuck (if melted), transformation

🗻🌊Skye’s Landlocked Sea Witch Tips🌊🗻
I’ve seen a lot of aspiring sea witches being discouraged due to not living anywhere near the ocean. And I’m here to tell you that you can still be a sea witch and be landlocked! Being landlocked will only hinder you if you let it.
So, let’s get going!
🌊Making Your Own Sea Water🌊
You will need:
🌊A jar/air tight bottle. I find a swing cap bottle works best
🌊Sea salt, eyeball amount depending on jar size
🌊Warm spring water
Ground and centre. Listen to ocean sounds and visualise and feel the power of the sea. Connect with the ocean by doing a Sinking/sea centering.
Pour the water into the jar. Add the sea salt. Mix until the salt has dissolved.
Hold the jar in both hands in front of your heart, saying:
“🐚 Mother ocean, from whom life flows, Bless this water with your love and nurturing power, your endless beauty and strength, For this I am grateful. So mote it be 🐚”
(Feel free to replace mother ocean with the name of your sea deity, if you have one)
Close your eyes. Continue to hold the jar at your heart and visualise the ocean. With your hands, feel the sea’s energy emanating from the jar. When the feeling is strong, open your eyes. Your sea water is ready to use.
🌊🔊Sea Sound Scapes🔊🌊
Your sea water can be placed in a bowl and you have the ocean right there. Combine that with the sound scape, listening to the waves coming in and going out. Synch that with any spell work you want to do regarding waves, tides, giving things to mother ocean etc. With me, I place things in the bowl and then pour the water and item (if it’s eco friendly) in the stream near my house.
I also use this technique to place myself at the beach through the senses. Hold a seashell or touch some sand, taste some salt, listen to ocean sounds, have an image or video of the sea, and if you can (I struggle with this) have a scent that’s ocean themed. I’ve struggled to find one as most scented candles labelled sea breeze smell like soap… And with this, you can perform rituals and workings centered around that water you made. Through your visualisation skills you can be by the sea, even when you physically aren’t. Cool, huh?!
💙You Are Ocean💙
The ocean is within you. It’s your blood, the sweat, your tears, your breath, your pulse. The ocean has a rhythm, so does the human body. We’re 65% water. And what’s even cooler is we also have a tide. The moon affects the body’s fluids, just like it affects the ocean. These ideas have really helped me with my craft because being landlocked, I’m sometimes like “how can I connect with the sea?” So knowing I have a tide and the rhythm of the sea, which is like the rhythm of pulse, just totally blows my mind and amazes me!
💧💦Inland Water💦💧
Now this is something that kinda quenches my sea thirst. If you can, travel to a nearby lake, river, stream etc. Sit near it. Connect with it. Follow your intuition and connect with its energy. Ask Mother Ocean/Your water deity to help you.
Honestly, I’ve been in meditation near freshwater and the smell, if I focus enough, reminds me of the sea air and it literally transports me in my mind and senses to the beach. And that’s one of my vital tools in my craft. (talk about water being adaptable and water witches doing the same, eh?!)
🛀🚿Bath & Shower Magic🚿🛀
🌊Bath bombs. Look up their ingredients to know the correspondences, or, just make up your own. Lush are honestly amazing and their products have been used a lot in my bath rituals
🌊Sallllttssss! You can make a saltwater bath, meditate and relax and really tap into that ocean energy
🌊Bath tub altar. Have a little altar going on when you take a bath. Shells, candles, incense, trinkets you’ve collected or purchased, statues. Anything you have that makes you feel connected with the sea
🌊 You can use crystals that correspond to water if you like. Aquamarine, moonstone, fluorite, amethyst, labradorite, selenite and rose quartz are just a few examples. If you’re putting crystals in your tub please research which ones are water safe!
🌊Herbs and oils. You can add these to your bathtub. Please research again. Some herbs are toxic and some you may be allergic to. The same with oils, as some people have allergic reactions to them! I don’t often use herbs and oils for this reason. I get irritated skin very easily. I use coconut oil in my bath for purification and I just looooove coconut oil and the scent. Also its amazing for your skin! I use lavender oil and that’s literally it. I use oils outside of the tub, though. For candle dressing and other spell work.
🌊And if you don’t have a bathtub, all of those above ingredients and can be made into shower scrubs! They’re super easy to make and there’s a tonne of amazing tutorials around online!
🌊Meditate or work in the shower. Feel that water flowing down and through you, allow it to cleanse and charge you. Go with your intuition and explore the possibilities
🌩🌪️☄️Weather☄️🌪️🌩️
Weather. It all begins at sea. Snow, rain, thunder storms, winds, hail. Its all from the sea. The water is ocean water that’s traveled to the land. Weather magic is just a more expanded form of sea magic. Go out and let the rain cleanse you, collect weather water of any kind and make your sea water with it! Feel the power of a storm and focus on how much energy the sea has during that time. Feel her with you when you are on land! Remember to stay safe when practising weather magic, too.
🐚✨Seashell Magic✨🐚
And if you have seashells, they have amazing uses and correspondences. Offering bowls, amulets, charms, talismans, runes, charging items and so on. I highly recommend the book Sea Magic by Sandra Kynes as a lot of the tips I’ve given you were inspired or taken from that book :)
A quick PSA regarding seashells:
If your shells are store bought, they may not be ethically sourced. Some craft stores sell them by the many so try to be wary of this. It’s down to your moral compass whether or not you decide to use them in your craft. And if you do choose to use them, I advise cleansing them before any magical use. Furthermore, do not purchase nautilus shells, starfish or seahorses. Nautilus shells are endangered. Star fish and sea horses are taken alive, then killed to be sold in stores.
I really hope this helped! Have a swishy day! 🌊💙And if you have any questions, feel free to ask :)
I’ve referenced this post before in my own practices, way back before I had a Tumblr account. Now that I’m here, let me reblog it so I don’t lose track of it!
gemstone tips, and gems for the sea!
Keep away from water 💦 — selenite, malachite, lapis, labradorite (do not use in rituals up on the beach!), hematite, pyrite, halite, turquoise, calcite, angelite … basically anything under 5 in the mohs scale, and anything too porous! 💎
Use water to recharge 💦 — Clear quartz, amethyst (only short periods), moonstone (moonwater preferred), rose quartz, aquamarine, smokey quartz, carnelian.
Important tip: Even if a crystal is water safe, long soaks aren’t usually recommended unless you’re 100% sure — a short dip or splash is safer.

As much as I adore my altar spaces, I had to dismantle the one previously posted. My kitten Orlok is a menace and would drag things down, and I also have periods of time where I am not as active in my craft. I just set up this mini altar in my bookshelf.
My collection of bones, cicadas and crab claws.
Cicadas found dead, crab claws found washed up on the beach, surf city nc.
All bones were found in one place over time. Lived with some not so nice people who had a bunch of huskies they let free roam, and they'd drag roadkill into the yard.
