Someone had a bubble machine at my city's No Kings rally today. :)

The bubbles were just one part of my favorite aspect of No Kings: the energy. It's enthusiastic and optimistic. It's welcoming and reassuring. People feel safe enough to bring their kids and their dogs. They get super into the spirit with signs, flags, and costumes. It's truly wonderful.

Energy alone won't topple this joke of a regime, but it will draw crowds (we had about 15,000 in my mid-sized city alone) and encourage us to take action together. Stay strong, and keep fighting.

Apparently, I am the manager of my Union now; I was not the creator or original manager. I...don't know what to do. None of the other members seem to be active, but I also don't want to kick any of them unjustly/without making sure that they're not coming back. What is the proper etiquette for this situation?

I may or may not have gotten myself a copy of the Hazbin Hotel Bar Book because I am a sucker for fandom cookbooks...

...and being the old-fashioned non-drinker I am, the first recipe I decided to try was Rosie's Sweet Tea. I had a very busy day, and this is exactly the kind of pick-me-up that I needed. It's very heavy on the lemon. This is a good thing for me. I love lemon. The ginger, rosemary, and basil add just a touch of earthy, spicy goodness in the background. Very good. Perfect summertime tisane. Highly recommend.

Tom Trench's Tiki Tipple and the Virgin Sacrifice Piña Colada are next on my list. I'm excited to try them! I wanted to take a stab at Charlie's Cordial Cake or the Crispy Eyeballs, too, but my oven decided to die yesterday, so they'll have to wait. :')

When I was a child, I had the distinct feeling I wasn’t like other girls. Not in a misogynistic quirky way, I had a difficult time fitting in with my peers and it caused me a great deal of consternation. It as very difficult to articulate what was different and I would lay awake at night wondering why what the fuck was wrong with me. Then I realized I wasn’t like other girls because I wasn’t a girl.

Dude, when I was a kid, I drank the "not like other girls" Kool-aid like there was no tomorrow--with all the misogynistic crap. I was overcompensating so much for not fitting in (and probably picking up some of the nastier parts of 2010s internet/gaming culture). So cringe. I'm glad that I'm not that bad anymore.

I'm still a nerd, but at least I'm ~self actualized~ to some degree now...even if it took many years to reach this point. I can stop compensating for not being the "ideal" girl/woman because I've realized that (1) misogyny is trash, and (2) I'm not a girl/woman at all.

It wasn't an intentional shot, but I thought it was pretty neat.

I hope everyone in the US had a great 4th of July (also, happy belated Canada Day to our neighbors up north!). The economy is rough right now, and the political landscape is one of the worst we've ever had, but the idiots in DC don't get to take away our joy. Smiling and celebrating in the face of this chaos is a form of resistance in its own right.

This took me several hours. The boss immediately after, Good Fortune Walpurgisnacht, only took me one attempt. Eve can go crawl back into her cocoon. I hate her.

The mysterious forces of my brain compelled me to start playing Magia Exedra again, and...wow. I have missed a lot over the past year and a quarter.

Chaos mode? Nope. Not for me--not yet, anyway. Nightmare Eve (Good Fortune ver.) is my current brick wall. My little F2P account needs more time and ascensions to grow before I can even think about more difficult stuff.

Crystalis? Cool in concept, but the drop rates make me want to cry.

Raids? Nice. I like them better than PVP mode. The rankings are still there for competition, but the collaborative aspect makes it way more fun.

All the new Main Quest stories (I originally dipped after Rumor of the Anonymous AI)? Awesome. This was my first exposure to Scene 0, and I'm very glad that I got to finally learn about Mabayu.

Exedra Quest? We'll see how it develops. I'm relieved that the nameless MC is being given a role other than "blank slate that describes emotions."

Gacha luck? Will probably tank soon, but it's been startlingly generous with new Magical Girls. Over my past few days of grinding, the following decided to show up: Mitama, Summer Homura, Summer Madoka (A2), Summer Sayaka (A1), Holy Mami, Touka, and Summer Mami.

Kaede is still my go-to Healer for her MP regeneration, but it's nice to have element variety in Mitama and S!Madoka. Madoka especially has really been pulling her weight thanks to her extra ascensions.

S!Homura is just fun. I love her jet ski. I love her stupid Kyubey water bombs. She seems to be a decent Debuffer, too.

S!Sayaka was my original goal, so I'm happy that I got her! She is also proving to be pretty reliable.

Holy Mami is in a weird spot. She could certainly have utility, but in terms of Dark Attackers, I already have A4 A5(?!) Cool Homura (somehow). She'll be on the back burner for now.

Touka... She annoys me, but another Breaker is always welcome--and a second 5-star Flame girl. Up to that point, Tsuruno was my only one.

I started going for S!Mami as a silly "what if." "What if I really can get the entire summer Holy Quintet over here?" And then she actually showed up. I'm not counting on Kyoko happening before her banner ends, but dang it, it would be fun to have them all in a team together. Optimal? Maybe not. But fun.

Oh, dang. We're actually getting another collectors' Lagoona. I...wasn't expecting that. I just kind of assumed that Mattel hated Lagoona across all generations of Monster High.

I'm not really sure how to feel.

On one hand, I think she looks really cool.

They gave her matching, appealing object heels! Moreover, the anglerfish theme is awesome. Bright, sunny mermaid vibes are great and all, but Lagoona deserves to lean into her monstrous side from time to time--and drawing inspiration from deep sea fish is an excellent way to go about it! And look at her leg fins!

But...they made her eyes look way more blue than green. That tiny inaccuracy really bothers me. Maybe they look greener in person, though. I dunno.

I'm also scared that AI was used for the box art. They've done that for previous releases. I wouldn't put it past them. I can't tell for sure, though; I'll wait for reports from people with better trained eyes. The use of AI in this way would be a complete deal breaker. Lagoona is my ghoul, but standing up for artists' livelihoods is more important than another piece in my collection.

And there's the whole SDCC-exclusive thing. We'll see if she's put up for sale on Mattel Creations, but if not, then oh well. I'm not flying all the way to the other side of the US just for a doll.

You know, I've never played Friday Night Funkin'. My knowledge of the game is bare-bones. I know that it's a rhythm game that uses the arrow keys on a computer keyboard, and I know what Boyfriend and Girlfriend look like. I haven't been too interested in it up to this point, and I don't see myself going out of my way to play it in the future.

That being said, I am obsessed with the Mario's Madness V2 mod right now.

The mod has so much talent and effort behind it in every aspect. The references are clever, the visuals are stunning, the songs are catchy, and it looks reasonably challenging. It honestly encapsulates some of the best parts of the internet: the human collaboration, creativity, and passion.

In terms of actual music, Thalassophobia has stuck with me the most. The slower tempo allows it to stand out from the more frantic songs in the Woodland of Lies, and it just does an excellent job conveying the feeling of oblivion. All of the silly meme songs are great, too, but Nourishing Blood makes me the happiest out of the bunch. I have no idea why the mod developers chose that title, but it's amazing nonetheless. G R A N D D A D will never not be funny.

The horror/creepypasta "meat" of the mod is neat as well, even if I didn't understand most of the references at first. Coronation Peach and Turmoil are probably my favorites of the horror characters that I didn't already know about. Peach has such a cool design with the tree branches overtaking her body, and Turmoil basically being a Yoshi-fied Mario is pretty creative. The horror and gore elements do admittedly disturb me if I think about them too much, but that's just me being squeamish and sensitive.

All in all, the people behind this project made something truly amazing. I hope they feel accomplished and proud. :)

You know, I still get tilted sometimes thinking about a paper I wrote in high school. My teacher deducted points from it because I stated that slavery was the primary driver of the Civil War; she wrote in her editing notes that it was actually "states' rights."

My school wasn't even in the South. There wasn't any larger, post-Civil War cultural brainwashing at work. She was just wrong. It's been nearly a decade, and it still gets under my skin. >:(

I got totally suckered in by the semi-annual sale at Bath and Body Works (the "hyperfixation + lack of impulse control" wombo combo strikes again), but hey, now I have enough fun smelly stuff to last the rest of the decade.

And I mean it. I'm banning myself from the store until the hoard is all gone. This level of impulse shopping is a lot even for me. :|

Coastal Dreaming - A bit of a surprise for me. I don't normally go for super sweet scents, but this one just felt right. Maybe it's the salt. Its stark differences from the rest of the stash could open up some interesting layering results, too. I can already see it meshing really well with a coconut-scented lotion that I have.

Thoughts on everything I chose:

Energy - Unique for a citrus scent thanks to the ginger. It does perk me up a bit when I smell it, too.

Gingham Fresh - Accurately named. It's very refreshing. It kind of makes me think of cucumber water despite cucumber not being part of the fragrance makeup at all.

Eucalyptus - Simple and clean. Way less harsh on my senses than their Stress Relief eucalyptus + spearmint combination. It also foamed up pretty well for a bubble bath.

Rainkissed Leaves - Gosh, this one is nostalgic. My family used to take annual trips to Cedar Point, and this scent was the body wash and lotion they had stocked in the cabin bathrooms. I thought it was so fancy and high-end when I was a kid. Now? I still enjoy how light and breezy it feels despite knowing that this stuff isn't exactly posh.

Salted Shorelines - Didn't like this one on the test paper, but it's way better with my skin chemistry somehow. The sage becomes less overpowering after the initial spray, and it has decent longevity.

Saltwater Breeze - My beloved. It smells just like an idyllic oceanside. It warms my little mermaid-wannabe heart.

Shoreline Hydrangea (not pictured; candle I got for my mom) - A very clean, classic floral scent. I chose it mainly for the illustration on the packaging, though; my mom liked the art on the Fresh Amalfi Lemon candle, so I wanted to give her something with the same vibe.

So yeah. I wish I weren't so susceptible to the urge to burn money, but at least I can slow down now and appreciate what I have until I use it up.

Is 2010s internet culture having some kind of resurgence that I wasn't aware of? I stopped by my nearest Hot Topic yesterday just to check things out, and they had a decent amount of Domo merch. Nyan Cat, Black Butler, and MLP FIM (specifically Derpy Hooves and Vinyl Scratch) were also present in T-shirt form.
