to even question the obvious has the dark mage roll her eyes at the man who stood before her . should there ever be a reason for her to practice the dark arts ? a witch would never go up to a ninja and question why they practice the art of ninjutsu for the question would be redundant . nonetheless , the dark mage pulled back all the magical power she had placed within the area so it’s not as suspicious as it was and just let out a sigh . tharja did not appreciate being watched ( though she’s not one to speak about spying ) , but even a hypocrite can say such a thing .
❛ … i can only assume you are capable of answering your own questions … ❜
the optimism she once had dispersed as all she wanted to do was place a hex on the masked ninja that even dared to call her a ‘ witch ‘ . adrenaline certainly ran through her veins albeit it not being visible through facial expressions , but she truly wanted to toy around with him . using the names of the hoshidan royalties merely was a bait , and she couldn’t believe how it worked so easily . no harm would’ve came to them as a protection spell is all she had planned , but that information shall be hidden .
❛ for but a moment … it sounded as if you were to call me a name that defines others … but i have no intentions of wasting such powerful magic on the likes of you , ninja . ❜
“--And I can only assume. My orders are to obtain truth, not speculation.”
She was not as malevolent in tone as the Fifth would think her to be. Then again, all mages were sly to some degree. For now it did not seem immediate action would be needed. By no means did he feel comfortable in the woman’s presence, but she likely would have attacked by now if she intended to kill him.
“What, did I hurt your feelings?”
The blade drawn at his side slowly slid back into its sheath. Though, not once did his eye flicker from the sorceress. The elemental magic was certainly her doing, but why recall it? She had no real obligation to heed Saizo’s orders. He felt a sharp mind may be of more use than a sharp blade in this situation.
“I’ll be clear: as of now you are under heavy suspicion, not arrest-- yet. There have been reports of travelers going missing in this vicinity. Are you responsible for this?”
divincr:
“Criticize is a harsh word. I come to offer my aid and guidance.” Orochi sat down next to Saizo, not even bothering to ask him if he minded. She knew he did, and would protest in a moment. She didn’t care. “Am I not allowed to offer my friends some aid in things that they find difficult to do?” Despite it’s backhanded tone, Orochi was genuine in offering Saizo help.
“--Oh really? Hmn. I’m sure this is either some prank or move to obtain a favor in the future, but...”
Saizo allowed his voice to trail off into a sigh. He knew the Diviner had made up her mind. If there was one thing the two had in common it was their stubbornness. Closing his eye once more, the ninja’s lack of protest served as his wordless acceptance.
gentlexbloom:
𝓢𝓱𝓸𝓾𝓵𝓭𝓮𝓻𝓼 𝓳𝓮𝓻𝓴 𝓾𝓹𝔀𝓪𝓻𝓭 more as a result of the suddenness of Saizo’s voice than his voice itself. Despite years of this, Sakura was hardly ever prepared enough for it, for the ninja moves so covertly. Sighing through her nose, she reins her nerves to yield in their quivering before turning to face her brother’s trusted retainer.
The freshly picked flower between her fingers twirled as she nodded in his direction, acknowledging his both his presence and his message. ❝ I’m doing fine… ❞
Her brow creased and the flower spun in place once more, eyes flickering away to the bamboo near her as a blush dusted across her cheeks. ❝ I-If this is about my fall the other day, please let Ryoma know it wasn’t serious. I’m walking without any trouble ! ❞
To emphasize her point, she paced back and forth, showing that she could safely put weight onto her ankle.❝ I-Is that proof enough? ❞
“Hmm-- so it would seem.”
Saizo observed as the young princess demonstrated her newfound mastery of locomotion. Arms still folded, the ninja nodded, approving of her display. The royal family knew she was a capable girl, but being the youngest sibling brought a constantly slew of concern. Her personality and mannerisms certainly did not help either.
“It is proof enough to me. However, I doubt it will suffice for Lord Ryoma; do pay him a visit when your duties allow it.”
The Fifth sighed as he walked beside the priestess, gazing down at the flower she innocently twirled.
“... I also do not feel Ryoma will ask only of your tumble. Do you wish to converse for a moment? I must be prepared for the innumerable questions he will ask after I relay that you are, in fact, fine.”
sacredprncess:
SHE COULDN’T HELP but wonder just what he meant when he said it was familiar —- she’d ask for clarifications but, as curious as she was, such things were not any of her business. ( Besides, she had her OWN kingdom to worry about before she could worry about other kingdoms. )
‘ Yes, that is the reason. We fear that the DARK KING will be making his move soon and…… ’
‘ —- And we need as many assets as possible. ’
EYES SINK DOWN, having to get help from another kingdom was laughable. Just another reminder of her own FAILURES as a princess —- she still couldn’t access her powers, would she EVER be able to ? Maybe if she had…. she wouldn’t have to rely on a warrior from another kingdom.
‘ I WOULD assume that it is quite far —- in fact, I’ve never even HEARD of it before. ’
‘ Regardless, it is a pleasure to meet you, Saizo, I am Princess Zelda – of Hyrule. ’
“The name Hyrule is unfamiliar to myself likewise. Regardless, know that my people fight to end fighting. If your plight is truly as you say, then my blade is yours for the time being.”
Saizo offered a nod of genuine assurance, immediately taking a knee at the mention of ‘princess’. To be summoned by a divine weapon wielder was one thing, but to be brought into a kingdom via royalty? The situation must indeed be dire.
“There is no shame in asking for assistance, princess. A leader who relies solely on themselves is bound to fall alone. Connections and ties to subjects and possible allies are necessary if you wish for the kingdom of Hyrule to reach a Golden Age.”
Zelda did not need to speak for the Fifth to hear her thoughts. She appeared to be young, and young heirs always carried great weight on their shoulders. Though, how they responded to that weight varied. He felt she might be somewhat naive, but goodhearted and capable nonetheless.
butlerbourne:
Oh dear. Jakob watched as the Hoshidan made ideal usage of the since seized tea tray. Once utilized as an impromptu shield, now it served Saizo well as a projectile, launched forth by means of a well-placed kick. His gaze sharpened, Jakob only momentarily focuses upon the flight of the tea tray, twirling aside as to dodge it completely. This, however, does little in preventing the distance between him and Saizo from thinning out evermore.
Their cunning, reflexes, and speed all seemed more or less even. A fact of which ran sour to the likes of Jakob. A fact, and a realization , hat only makes it all the MORE important for Jakob to not yield, and thus deprive Saizo success. Fingers curled and grip tight, Jakob would keep his dagger close to his person. Their distance soon to be non-existent, but not before Jakob moved to counter his adversary.
By this point, there hasn’t been another word spoken by Jakob. Though Saizo had spoken last, it would be within silent acknowledgement that words had run their course. Actions would go on to speak volumes louder, with the LOUDEST prevailing by night’s end.
Another throwing dagger sliding into his grip, he flicks it forth. This time, Jakob does aim for Saizo’s legs—intent to divert his attention even for a split second. It is within the window that he throws this dagger, that Jakob also moves quicker than before. His speed revealed in full, Jakob intends to meet Saizo just short of his thrown dagger, completely contrasting the passive stance he’d taken moments ago. His personal dagger drawn, Jakob swings swift in the attempt to slash his opponent, at last beginning their dance of speed and steel.
The other did not need to reply for Saizo to know his thoughts. The expression Jakob wore said plenty. Chatting during battle was a fool’s tactic regardless. The Fifth saw it as nothing more than a distraction; a gimmick to bait the hot-headed and prideful into committing brash and thoughtless attacks. He would know.
It seemed the Nohrian knew a thing or two about staying on his feet. Damn shame, Saizo had hoped to be rid of him quickly. If this went on for too long the ninja may indeed have to retreat. He would have to test the other’s bladework before reaching that conclusion, however.
Discarding the tray, the Fifth eyed a single dagger thrown this time, its trajectory lower than before. Were Jakob an ally, the change in tactics would warrant a compliment. Pulling himself into a crane-like stance, steel just managed to nick flesh as his leg raised. The butler seemed keen on countering shurikens with blades, so the Fifth threw another before leading himself behind it.
Saizo merely wanted to reduce the distance between them to zero.
kageroichi:
hands come to rest over the arms ‘round her waist, head tilts so a kiss can be pressed to his jawline before returning to its original position. he is warm, comforting; kagero does not want to leave, despite knowing quite well the time comes sooner rather than later.
‘ good morning. ‘
“--Morning.”
The ninja grumbled at the sleepy affection given to his lower face, but failed to utter any words of protest. He wondered if being this comfortable was a bad thing. Perhaps, in the future, it should be taken in moderation. For now, however, he would allow some delay before rising.
kazealous
“--That was a good match, Kaze. I feel that is sufficient for the day, unless you wish to continue?”
It was the little things that brought he and his brother together. Training one-on-one served as both ample practice and peace of mind for Saizo. To know his kin could stand his ground was reassuring; the last thought he needed in the middle of a fight was worry about Kaze’s safety.
bonyarii
“I have a sneaking suspicion that Lady Hinoka did not order you to nap there, Setsuna...”
The Fifth’s voice was stern, but not reprimanding. Not yet. Arms folded as the ninja tapped his foot. He did expect an explanation of some sort, though it was more than likely to be an excuse if anything. At least she was not stuck in some trap again... or quicksand... or a tree.
heiwanoryu
“--Corrin, I’ve come to notify you that this week’s shipment of provisions has arrived. Shall I have them moved for storage?”
Logistics was not something unfamiliar to the ninja. When not actively protecting the royal family or gathering intelligence, Lord Ryoma put a large amount of faith in Saizo to deliver high priority messages in the form of sealed letters. Along side Kagero and his liege’s siblings, they had developed a commendably secure system of communication.
vallablooded
“--When you told the others you had business to attend, I did not think I would find you out here practicing. Your avid desire to improve is... reassuring."
Such devotion would be needed if she hoped to walk the path set before her. To turn one’s back on two kingdoms was dangerous. However, she was not without reason. Megan knew this war was more than just a feud, as cryptic as certain details were. Winning would mean peace for both Nohr and Hoshido. Of course it was worth fighting for.
grimstalker:
it was all according to plan on pulling the spy from their hideout . ‘though she speaks truth about cursing the princes - even the one she has temporarily replaced as robin - and how she’ll do as she pleases , no harm will truly come to them .. yet . the cauldron’s water spilled over the edges as the bubbles increased with every thunder that struck . the dark mage began to float above the ground as eyes suddenly became shrouded in black . it’s almost as if she can make it all seem so realistic , and yet … no one believes that she can truly be a great actress .
leaves rustled from behind the shrubbery as a man with crimson hair came forth and demanded that she put an end to her cursing . a grim smile came across the wicken’s face as she merely thought he was joking with her on such a thing . doesn’t anyone ever say ‘ excuse me ‘ when interrupting someone during something important ?
❛ … have you no manners , spy ? … ❜
pupils dilated back to how they were , and the storm she brought forth came to a halt ; feet once again touched the ground , and she’s nearly ready to place a hex on he who stands before her .. wielding such a blade , pathetic . tharja has plenty of time to deal with this man as she’s in no rush for anything .. in fact , it’s best to face her in the dark .. when she’s at her strongest .
What was he dealing with? Did the woman have control over nature? Or was it illusionary magic? The fact he could not tell if he was under attack was... disturbing for a ninja of his caliber. Magic wielders were occasional targets to deal with on the battlefield, but this woman seemed much more proficient than any parish cleric. Blade at his side, the Fifth approached slowly.
“--Have you no sense, mage? For what reason are you practicing such destructive magics?”
Saizo was not in the most optimal position to appear authoritative, but he was never one to feign meekness. Scowl hidden by his facial gear, the ninja’s brows nearly met as he glared at the woman. To put on such a display only for it to disperse... she was either showing off or practicing some heinous ritual he just so happened to interrupt.
Her smile was perhaps the most unsettling thing of all.
“Violence is not my intent, but I will not hesitate to defend myself, witch.”
axefairest
“So you’re the one cooking tonight-- do try not to poison any of the soldiers, woman.”
His typical stern voice laced with sarcasm, the ninja gently placed the box of herbs and vegetables on the tabletop. The aroma of churning soup wafted from the Nohrian’s culinary work-in-progress. Moving to her side, Saizo peeked into the vat. Delivery was his only duty; might as well see what was for dinner.
“Well... it looks half-edible, at least.”
sacredprncess
“--Is that why I have been summoned here? A dark king and his ruthless legions... hmn, familiar.”
Lord Ryoma had warned of the possibility-- being called upon by kingdoms other than Askr was an unavoidable duty, it seemed. The plight of this one in particular reminded the ninja of King Garon’s tyranny. He would be more than happy to lend a hand.
“I am Saizo, a warrior and protecter. My home is known as Hoshido, though I’m willing to assume it is quite far from this place.”
