Urban Nation in Berlin celebrated the 8th and, reportedly, final chapter of its “Project M” exhibition series this past weekend. Curated in collaboration with London’s StolenSpace Gallery, the exhibit revealed new murals, ten large scale panels at the nearby Urban Nation office, and a collection of new works at Urban Nation’s gallery space by 10 artists: Shepard Fairey, D*Face, Maya Hayuk, Cyrcle, Word To Mother, Miss Van, The London Police, Joram Roukes, Snik, and Evoca1. Most traveled to Berlin for the occasion, making this installment a representation of Urban Nation’s international reach through its collaborators.

Alicia Tapia is a school librarian and digital literacy instructor by day, and by night she brings the Bibliobicicleta to San Francisco’s Panhandle. More on this mobile library from Hoodline:

On Tuesdays from 6pm-8pm, a roving bicycle-powered community library called Bibliobicicleta visits the Panhandle. We caught up with founder Alicia Tapia, a school librarian and digital literacy instructor at De Marillac Academy in the Tenderloin, to find out more about the project.

2015 Kite and Bike Festival at Franklin Park

sparc!’s most recent event was the third Kite and Bike Festival in Franklin Park.  We joined our friend’s Discovery Roxbury, The Franklin Park Coalition. A great way to start the spring! We held a wand making activity with bamboo sticks adorned with colorful tape, streamers, feathers, ribbon and glitter. We also made small kites with colorful paper and ribbon; an easy and fun craft that was a big hit! It was a busy time for the entire event and we can’t wait to do it again next year!

“Podrán cortar todas las flores pero nunca detendrán la primavera.” (They can cut all the flowers, but never stop the spring.) – Pablo Neruda Olek sends this message of support to the gay community all over the world, especially in South America, with her latest piece. The Polish-born street artist (featured in HF Vol. 29) has just covered Santiago’s Obelisk Balmaceda monument with rainbow-colored crochet work. Built in 1949, the original monument is the work of artist Samuel Román Rojas in honor of Chilean President José Manuel Balmaceda Fernandez. Today, Olek renames it “Pablo Neruda”, after the Chilean poet-diplomat.

As we approach the end of the 2015 Call for Participation, we invite you to the first of our FIGMENT Boston Meet & Greets on Tuesday June 9th, 7pm–9pm! We will meet at 7pm on the Rose Kennedy Greenway beneath the awe inspiring Janet Echelman sculpture; As If It Were Already Here which will be on view until October 2015. We’re excited to have it fly above our event this summer and can’t wait for you all to see it (if you haven’t already)! After a short walk through the Greenway, we will regroup at The Times Irish Pub (112 Broad Street) Let’s share a pint, toss around some ideas or get advice on current projects.
