kinda wild how when i made a post about nico and the holocaust, a plot point and fandom trope MUCH smaller than piper’s eyes and feathers or samirah’s arranged marriage or hazel’s forced maturity or any of the thousands of other instances of racism in rick’s writing and the pjo fandom, i got anons apologizing for writing fics with this trope years ago. i had people respectfully asking me for explanations. i didn’t get hate. i wasn’t forced to debate it with anyone. i didn’t have to justify it to anyone. no one accused me of being too angry. 

but when poc in the fandom address racist tropes and call out racism, they get anon hate. they’re forced to answer the same questions over and over again. people keep making racist fanart. people keep whitewashing. people accuse them of being mad over nothing.

why were you so quick to accept my condemnation of antisemitism but when racism gets called out you ignore it? you don’t get to be outraged about antisemitism but then turn around and excuse racism. it doesn’t work like that.

going off of this— why did you all agree with me that rick’s inaccurate representation of lavina’s bat mitzvah was disrespectful, but you refuse to face the fact that he used samirah’s hijab in the same (or arguably worse) way?

you didn’t tag my post as discourse. you tagged it as antisemitism. you should be doing the same for everyone else calling out the racism in rick’s writing and in the fandom.

Protests have continued nonstop in nyc and other cities in the US. Follow activists and black creators and you’ll see this is not a trend. BLM started in 2013 and has grown so much this year. Don’t dispair, keep educating yourselves and others and being active in other ways that you can.

i hope that you see the damage you are doing to bloggers of color. you are LUCKY people like us are giving open platforms to speak about this but you continue to abuse them. your fav blogger is racist? unfollow them - your love for their edits and headcanons are not worth more than these values. your fav blogger got called out? listen to what they have to say and ask yourself whether they are playing the victim or taking accountability. someone is speaking up? reblog that shit. amplify their voice especially if you have an extensive number of followers and they do not.
