SWELL - "Bastards & Rarities 1989-1994" CD from Chrome Peeler Records
NEW in distro: SWELL - "Bastards & Rarities 1989-1994" CD One of the most underrated bands of the 90s, San Francisco's SWELL took Velvet Underground-inspired hush and filtered it through the Jesus and Mary Chain’s stoned buzz. Even though the name implies that this is throwaway material, that couldn't be further from the truth. In fact, this collection of 10 wonderful lo-fi tunes is great pop music done on a shoestring budget and originally released on indie labels (Sub Pop, Beggars Banquet). If you like early 90's indie rock, then this should be an obvious purchase. RIYL: Pavement, Red House Painters
