So Iâm sure a few of you have noticed this blog go completely silent lately. I lacked the motivation to continue doing public RP for a while and keeping this blog updated as my roster continually changes is proving to be too much of a chore. Toyhou.se seems to be easier for me to manage, so Iâve been using that for character profiles. Even thatâs a little out of date, but here you go.
If I do go back to doing RP and aesthetic posts on this blog, it will be after another structural overhaul.
The Coral Sea is recruiting!
For the first time in years, «Coral» arenât only leaving our doors open for anyone who walks by, but are actively recruiting and we just might be looking for YOU!
Who are we?
Originally founded in January of 2014, weâre a roleplaying free company on Balmung who have spent the last few years cultivating a consistent culture among our membership of adults and a surrounding community of friends!
While FFXIV is of course our primary focus, we play a lot other games together, watch different things, and generally enjoy our various and often nerdy passions in a shared and safe space!
Our primary and scheduled activity focus mostly around North/South American time zones, but we have a few people in UK/EU time zones in our community along with a handful of members who work later in the evening. Basically, our active times a little all over the place and if youâre looking for people to do things with, youâll find them!
Weâre a diverse group who come from many nationalities, ethnicities, identities, and backgrounds. Our membership range in age from our early twenties to early thirties and weâre a laid-back, socially progressive crowd to boot!
What does «Coral» have to offer?

An environment where we welcome anyone of any rank to make events and get help from FC officers if they need it!
What kind of players are we looking for?
If you want a fuller idea of what kind of culture weâve created and whether or not youâd be a good fit, you should check out our about and rules pages, but the short and sweet of it is this:
Roleplayers
Ages 18+
Weâre not an ERP FC, but we are a group of adults looking for other adults to hang out and have fun with.
Friendly
Fairly strong adherence to the lore
Our collective view of canon is itâs a shared language that allows different groups of RPers to âtalkâ to each-other and while we donât demand a strict, legalistic adherence to the lore, we want our players to be able to tell stories together that can gel together!
Open to mature themes
Not strictly sexual, but also not the most grimdark of dark RP.
At least fairly active
Not all members of Coral need to be on all the time or even attend every event and be constantly talking in Discord. As long as youâre a good presence when you are present, thatâs basically all we ask!
What kind of characters are we looking for?
As Coral is intentionally designed to not have a strict âthemeâ, weâre inviting to a wide array of characters representing different attitudes and backgrounds!
In-character, The Coral Seaâs open structure means just about anyone can find a home in The Maidenâs Prow. Adventurers can treat it as a place to live, prepare for their adventures, and perhaps find new avenues of work. With its ample resources and security, Itâs also a good place for more âcivilianâ characters to simply have somewhere to live thatâs safe, well-maintained, and provides a vaguely familial environment.
For both types of member, the on-site presence of a staffed and funded infirmary complete with what some might call excessively comfortable amenities makes for an excellent place to rest and recuperate after any sort of misadventure.
There arenât a lot of hard notes for what, exactly, makes a character a good fit, but there are two major points to keep in mind!
Characters who are mostly or at least superficially law-abiding will do well in the FC as Coral is a largely law-abiding organisation. That doesnât mean it doesnât occasionally engage in some morally dubious actions, but anything overtly criminal or unethical definitely goes against the vibe of the FC.
As said in an IC meeting ages ago, âYou can be useless and nice or you can be useful and nice, we donât have room for jerks.â In-character, many things are valued in the companyâs membership, but chief above all else is the ability to make The Maidenâs Prow feel more like a home.
What should you do if you want to join?
If you like the sound of our rules and attitude, the easiest thing is to drop us an in-game application and an officer will get to you as soon as possible to chat you up OOC and set up an IC interview!
Alternatively, if you message our company Tumblr, someone will get back to you and we can set up something in-game through that!

RP groups that stalk your blog when you apply to join and then decide to decline your application solely because they found evidence that you ERP on the side (even though you said nothing about ERP in your application to the group because, shock, you werenât intending to search for ERP there) are creepy and gross.

I cannot fathom where these weirdo internet puritans come from. If their constitutions are so weak they canât handle the suspicion someone somewhere might be writing smut they donât know about, how do they handle the internet?
Are these the people who send incensed letters to the FCC when someone says ass on network television?
Shout outs to all those people who can balance alts and all their stories and all the leveling you do! It can't be easy, but your passion for telling stories is real.
Just an RP Pro Tip from someone who has either been an officer of or leading RP guilds/groups for the past 10+ years:o
âIC does not equal OOCâ does NOT translate to âOOC feelings donât matter.â
It also does not mean if someone is upset about something thatâs going on in an RP OOC that they âneed to grow a spine.â
OOC feelings absolutely do matter when you are playing with other people and not just writing your own stories. Other players are not your NPCs. They are people who are going to haveâI know this sounds weirdâactual feelings about the things that go on during RP.
OOC feelings about whatâs going on during a plot arc, RP session, etcâŠabsolutely do matter, and if youâre leading an event, are a guild officer, or a guild leader, itâs absolutely part of your responsibility to make sure everyone involved in the RP thatâs happening is having a good time OOC.
That doesnât mean nothing bad can happen to characters IC, it means part of the responsibility of leading events or plot arcs is to make sure your players are having fun OOC regardless of what is going on IC.
If your players end up in situations where they feel their character canât do anything right, canât âadvanceâ, canât ever succeed no matter what they do, or is always getting in trouble even when theyâre trying to avoid it (and that is not part of what they want to be happening), your players are not going to enjoy the RP.
YOU might be enjoying it, especially if your character is one in a position of power, but if all you ever focus on is whether the people in control of the situation are having fun youâre going to find that you run out of people to play with after awhile and will get a reputation you might not necessarily want. Yes, this applies even in settings where there are strict social rules/norms or strict hierarchies of power.
Yes, this means your military leader, high ranking Sith, pact commander, squad leader, or whatever a âhigh rankâ is in the game youâre playing canât just walk all over players who have characters of a lower rank unless thatâs the scenario thatâs been agreed upon and, even if that is the agreed upon scenario, you still do regular check-ins with those players to make sure theyâre still having a good time.
If theyâre not, thatâs when you pause the RP and figure out what can be tweaked so everyone involved is having a good time and enjoying the RP OOC. It is not appropriate for you to ever brush aside one of your players saying theyâre not enjoying the RP scenario with, âItâs lore/canon, keep IC and OOC separate.â
Doing that means youâre doing a very poor job at event/scenario leading.

It is never and has never meant âOOC feelings donât matter.â or âIf you get upset by something thatâs going on in an RP that involves your character, youâre mixing IC and OOC and need to stop.â
If you think it does mean that, youâre unconditionally wrong.
All of this. Running a very expansive RP group, this tends to be misconstrued or often disregarded wholesale. It is okay to be upset about something going on IC and to discuss things in an OOC manner to work them out.
It is NOT okay to tell someone that everything going on IC has no OOC bearing, because if it didnât no one would read books, watch movies, or yes, even write. Characters are an emotional investment, and a dialogue is necessary to maintain a good RP experience for everyone.
Period.
Shoutout to the everyday bar scene at the Quicksand. Not only is it an interesting and welcoming place to hang out- but due to its status as an rp hub I was there one late and lonely night in particular. That night? My character randomly found and made friends with another character. And then I became friends with that characterâs player. And things really clicked and he is now my first boyfriend and I love him so much. Thank you Quicksand! Stay weird!
I rarely respond to actual asks, but I feel so strongly about how good this one is!
There are some people who like to look down on the Quicksand and, yeah, thereâs definitely a certain kind of thing that likes to happen there, sure, but 99.9% of the time, when you go there, it doesnât impact your RP.
If you go there with an open mind and an actual willingness to engage with people youâve never met before, you will usually find RP there and often leave with a pretty good story that happened because you went in with a good attitude for improv and said yes to the moment!

IC inventors, scientists, researchers and others of like minded interest!! (Balmung server)
Iâm dabbling with the idea of starting a fair/convention for all of us nerds and techies to come together and mingle. The idea is to have those of interest take a few moments on a stage and show off your inventions, research. Weather it is aetherial, medical, engineer, alchemy and so on. This would be open to all fields of science, construct, research. The aim is for those who have products to be able to advertise. Maybe you need more nerds to work on a project? To join in your research? Or just to make connections with others in your genre of rp.
