Nanaki's ears twitched forward towards the young human. It was a sharpening of his own focus, coupled with something like a knowing grin. He could tell that he was nervous — this wasn't Cosmo Canyon, and these weren't people who were educated about the watchers who protected the world from the Gi Tribe.
"One of your languages." he confirmed. "They call it the common tongue now, or simply Gaian. Though I was taught there are many languages, the one we use is simply more enforced by them." Head turned, he lifted his nose in gesture to a wall with old Shinra propaganda. Most of it had been spray painted over, but the logo was still recognisable.
His tail curled a little closer to his own body as he sensed others walking close. It was unlikely he would singe anyone, but it wasn't an impossibility. "Heh! Nah, soda burns my nose. Do you have bottled water?"
Of course he didn't. Not the single-serve kind of bottle anyway. Not a problem. "One cup, please." How odd, that he felt a sliver of excitement, his body reacting with a small wiggle when he was presented with a cup. How long it had been!
Nanaki delicately grabbed the cup between his paws and lapped up the water happily. Of course he spilled it quite a bit, in fact more seemed to end up over the makeshift table and on the fur of his snout than actually in his mouth, but he didn't care one bit. By the time he finished, he had a foolish smile pulling at his lips.
Though in the next instant he looked guilty as he pawed away some of the water where it dripped from his chin. "Uh... speaking of my nose..." which had come up in conversation... "I don't have human money to exchange for your goods." Well, wasn't that obvious. "But I do have a pretty good nose." Or... he did... "Sooo if you need a hand sniffing out something, or someone!"
