Summary: The Winchester Brothers believe that Castiel's vision of paradise on Earth meant that Jack was destined to become God. They believe that the vacuum of power left by Chuck and Amara requires his sacrifice. Castiel believes there had to be another way and resents that the brothers, who prized free will, are dictating to Jack what he is destined to do.
After an accident, Jack's powers become dormant, the brothers continue to disagree with Cas, and pressure on Jack to tap into his powers and fill the role of God grows. The responsibility on his shoulders eventually overwhelms the nephil, and he taps into his powers in a fit of pique, making sure that others see how he feels inside - helpless and in need of love and care... an infant.
Now that Jack is a baby, and the other three members of Team Free Will are left in shock, scrambling to care for him. The act of caring for a child brings Cas and Dean closer together at long last but begins to drive the Winchesters farther apart.
Dean is forced to grapple with the past traumas of his own upbringing in order to be better for Jack, and he finds himself opposing Sam's vision of how to cope with Jack's transformation. The brothers find themselves hundreds of miles apart, and as Cas and Dean spend more time with Jack, the more Dean longs for a life of domesticity and fatherhood. However, Dean's internal demons always prove to be more of a struggle than anything he'd encountered in Hell.
If they think their troubles would end there, Heaven and Hell are seeking to kidnap Jack and foil an ancient prophecy, which will leave Team Free Will needing to reconvene and figure out if they will defend Jack or force him into the God role he was so afraid of after all.
