I know you aren't a fan of the 5yl fan series,but can you share some of your specific criticisms? I'm sorry if this question bothers you.
After everything I've gone through with the author I wasn't going to answer but on second thought, never mind I'll talk.
I will admit I liked the first few chapters back when they were first starting and I still think they're better than whatevers going on now, but past that it really reads like a bad fanfic. I am no longer as invested in the current chapters, but idk how anyone keeps up with the plot. They want to push for this "Real Destined Future" despite literally explaining within the comic how the multiverse exists. Like which is it.
Regarding the way they're writing Ben, it's like they used all the writing skill they had in the first few chapters and then resorted to flanderizing, as the people like to say, him into making jokes and taking nothing seriously. People really do not know how to strike a balance between personality and maturity.
I've never liked his "kill Ben Tennyson" scheme. It's like, obviously the most controversial thing you could do with a character who's very difficult to actually kill off, but that being his genius writing move? Ugh. I can't wait to see how the tank glazers try to justify it :)
Eon, or "Divinity" I guess, is going to have Vlad force Ben into human form somehow and then kill him since he needs an excuse to have this Vlad guy be so important to the Killing Ben Tennyson scheme. This guy really told me himself that his ending is going to show how "important" Ben actually is to him. I would have expected something really good if this is supposed to be a tribute to the character. As opposed to like, doing The Most Shocking Thing, making his OC more powerful than the character who could allegedly "beat Superman and Goku" or whoever because he has the powers of a god, and then claim that this is an act of character appreciation as if you couldn't think of anything better.
What's next? He gets resurrected as Extremely Ripped Superhero Ben 10,000 to satisfy the fans? Just fucking watch.
Had I actually been treated like a serious collaborator, perhaps I would have helped achieve justice for this character at the very least. However, he has already discredited everything I've ever been consulted on so perhaps I'm ok with watching this production turn into flaming garbage.
Though sometimes I do wonder if he will keep the Future Ben design I was consulted on for months 🙄💅 oh wait you didn't read that I need to stay quiet and pretend I signed an imaginary NDA.
I can't really speak on the Danny Phantom part of it. I never watched it. But claiming Danny Phantom is the actual protagonist is also really funny when like 90% of their views and profit come from Ben 10 fans. But let me not start on their leeching off every possible topic they could milk for views.
If 5YL was really so good, you would probably think I'm crazy for criticizing it, but I think it's really just undeniably glorified and mediocre at best and a bootleg cash grab at worst.
