eve had spotted her the moment she’d walked in the bar, as if some invisible force was begging her to take notice. once her eyes landed on the blonde woman a floodgate of emotions - guilt, regret, longing - opened up, the feelings strong as ever despite the years that had past. a fleeting thought ran through her mind - maybe the feelings never really went away. obviously, that was ridiculous. eve had left her behind long, long ago (despite how much it broke her heart to do so). she was doing her best to disregard the other woman but kept catching herself staring. it was her inability to look away that caused her to notice the rather persistent man standing next to her, refusing to back off after what seemed like several attempts on the blonde’s part. unable to sit back and watch it any longer, eve moved from her own spot at the bar, gliding over to join the group of two. she slid her arm around the other woman, eyeing the man as she did. “sorry it took me so long babe, the line for the bathroom was ridiculous. i think someone was throwing up in there,” she explained, hoping her ex-friend would play along. “who’s this?” eyes flickered back to the man questioningly, a brow raised at him, almost begging him to test her.
madeline was sat at a bar downtown, drink in front of her as she scrolled through her phone. she had finally gotten a night where she was able to blow off some steam and she was very thankful for it; work had been quite busy lately and she just wanted an uninterrupted quiet night with her thoughts. she frowned when she saw a man approach her, knowing exactly where this was going. she said no more than a handful of times, not wanting to give him her phone number, or even let him buy her a drink, she was in no mood to owe anyone anything, especially not a rather desperate and clingy man. her eyes widened as a familiar redhead sat next to her -- eve. eve and madeline knew each other for a while, they had met back in high school, in the same friend group, until eve had distanced herself from maddeline with no explanation. she sat up straight, knowing that playing along was the best option here, “it’s okay”, she smiled, “here, you can share some of my drink”, she slid it towards eve and sat close to her, “i have no idea who he is, but he won’t leave me alone”, she made a face, “maybe he will now, since i’m with my girlfriend”, she exaggerated the last word, hoping he would leave.
