Nigel finds the book on a low shelf next to Adamâs bed.
Itâs scuffed up and well read for a kidâs book, which confuses him but when he opens it and sees the name inside he frowns.
She wrote him a book?
Adam talk about Beth has always been brief and quite negative which makes him oddly happy. Now he turns the pages of the book and feels an odd knot in his belly of jealousy. Yeah itâs a fucking kidâs book and makes Adam out to be some kind of strange animal but still.
She wrote him a book.
He reads on and doesnât hear Adam come into the room.
âOh.â
Nigel looks up and Adamâs cheeks are a bit pink. âI found your dirty little secret.â
He walks over and takes the book from Nigelâs hands. âItâs not dirty.â
âI know that, Star. But you never once told me about this. I always pictured Beth as this annoying bitch who didnât understand you, which judging by the book still seems accurate, butââ
Adam angrily sets the book back on the shelf. âShe wasnât annoying,â he mumbles, âShe was nice and I wanted too much so she left. Sheâs written lots of books and this is just one of them.â
Nigel grabs his hand before Adam can run off and pulls him into a hug. Adam smells like soap and that new cologne Nigel likes. âWhat kind of an idiot wouldnât want too much from you, Gorgeous?â
He feels Adam shake in his arms and kisses his cheek.
âAll I want is too fucking much,â he whispers, licking his ear.
Adam settles against his neck and breathes him in.
âI donât like the book but my father always said you shouldnât throw gifts away. This one has my name in it, which makes it even more of an important gift.â
Nigel pulls back and smiles at Adam. âIâll toss it in the book drive box at Reggieâs, yeah?â
Adam nods. âOk.â
Nigel puts his hands on Adamâs cheek and kisses him softly.
âYou want to show me just how much you want?â
Adam smiles. âI want so much more with you than I ever did with her. I wantââ
Nigel cuts him off with a kiss and they tumble into bed.
Nothing else needs to be said.
The next morning as he gets Adamâs favorite tea from Reggieâs he throws the book in the box with a smile.
