in the prequel books, beverly clearly is mentioned multiple times

pink floyd’s the wall is mentioned by klaus

it’s confirmed to take place in “the year of the rat”

in the Ersatz Elevator (tv show not books) a woman is watching Bob Ross which ran from 1983-1994. She could be watching a rerun though.

also in the show, the baudelaires referenced James Brown’s “Super Bad” released in 1971

if the show and the books have the same timeline, it would have to take place in 1984, 1996, 2008, or 2020 (considering the “year of the rat” thing)

I personally believe that they take place in 1984

BUT the books might have a different timeline than the show
