What Studying Law Has Actually Taught Me
Oh yeah!
A poetry assignment. I put my voice over a collage of videos of my friends and youtube clips that Iâve grown fond of.
Something I need feedback on...
Cigarette Dilemma
Iâve been smoking American Spirits but they give me a headache and the entire reason why I smoked them was because they were natural and organic which I hoped would give me organic cancer which eventually I could sell to science or at least hope for a benign reading so I wonder if I should buy whatever is cheapest like some Camel Crushes because these native fuckers are expensive as hell weighing in at around $10 per pack where I could buy some others for probably half that price and just get regular cancer but maybe I should save my money now for the oxygen tanks I will need when I have emphysema or some other contracted lung disease and those hoses that wrap around your head and plug into your nose canât be cheap either but I love to smoke even when I didnât smoke I could appreciate the smell and taste of a good cigarette I donât love the way my clothes smell or the way that people on the bus smell like they live inside an ashtray but again this is how I justify my smoking by doing it outside like a good American huddled next to strangers that all share a kindredness about them like hey we all want to get the same disease isnât that cool and maybe it is but maybe we all got suckered by the same corporate conglomerates who view us as numbers and not people and by perpetuating this habit we are no longer victims but something else we could call willing participants in a study trying to find out why people do the things they do and none of us are getting paid like that one babysitting job where you cleaned the house and put the kids to bed early and then the people literally paid you $2 per kid with no tip like sure thatâs what we agreed on but everyone knows thatâs just a starting off point and once the parents got home drunk and horny they shouldâve shuffled you out of the house with everything left in their wallet but they didnât and it is then that you realize that even drunk people can do math which bothers you but also makes you hopeful as you need to pass that fucking geometry midterm and so far you are still trying to get the round block into that square hole and you keep slamming the pieces of wood together because one of the days that bitch will fit but they donât fit not ever and you still ask the drunk dude that paid you $18 for nine hours work a ride home because even drunk heâs still better at math and driving than you are and you fall asleep pissed off and needing a hug from just about everyone but itâs two am in the morning and the radio is your only friend in the world filled with those who advertise and those who get advertised to but the DJ tells you to take it easy and again you canât help but be lured in by his soft and silky voice

haunted by the number three
haunted by the number three
I am followed around, like a specter, by the number three: there are three kids in my family (I am number one), when I called in to win Lissie tickets on the Current, I was caller number three, and the number three followed me all over Sampson Starkweatherâs book of poetry, which was also coupled with my other ominous number: 33: âit gets good / at the 3:33 mark / where static meets the sky / clouds crumbleâ (p.112, The First Four Books of Sampson Starkweather); I feel like Jim Carrey in that movie he did with Virginia Madsen, where he keeps finding the number 23 everywhere, except I donât play saxophone, even in my nightmares; in those dreams I play the tuba, like that random dude from the Roots who the one time I actually wanted to see the Roots, they let/made him play a twenty minute tuba solo, to my chagrin, as I canât stand tuba solos, like, how much bass do we really need (it sounded like my Mexican neighborâs fiesta band playing a Skrillex cover); all of this revolves around my jesus year, which is next year: like the shoe dropping from the heavens, I feel compelled to get busy and get something done either before, or during this next year; they say Jesus did all of his ministry in his 33rd year on earth, and Chuck Palahniuk wrote Fight Club during his jesus year, and Sampson Starkweather published his book during his jesus year; could these highly influential men be my undoing, or will the year pass by without a notice or a care, and will I wonder` what I should have been doing, or will I be doing what I am supposed to be doing, and I wonât even know it?
I may be over-posting, but the Current neglected this classic when they paid homage to the steel drums, with literally all white performers (is the current racist?)
