eddie stands in the kitchen , resting his back against the counter with a steaming coffee cup in one hand. it's weird being back in LA in his home that isn't ( just ) his home anymore. after christopher moved back in with him in el paso , he'd received a call from buck -- it was bobby.

he knew right away that he needed to be there; for buck , for the 118 , for himself. and christopher instantly agreed. so here they were , all under one roof. nothing felt real , though. the house itself was familiar. buck's things inside his house were familiar. but the combination made him feel. . .weird.

hearing buck moving about the house , he momentarily set his cup down to pour the other man a cup of coffe -- holding it out to him when he finally entered the kitchen. " hey. . .thanks again for letting us stay here. i know it's a lot right now. "

I love that Eddie having Chris move back in with him was ultimately an act of protection. He was willing to let Chris live with his parents if that was what he wanted, because Chris’ happiness comes first before anything at all. But as soon as he got a whiff of Chris’ unhappiness, as soon as he could sense his parents doing to his son exactly what they did to him, he said “Nope, I’m getting you out of there.”

That’s what “dad up” was always going to be. It was never going to be Eddie making a selfish decision because he wants Chris back with him. It was always going to be Eddie realising “I am your father, and that means I will make this decision for you. I will do the uncomfortable thing, because you don’t want to upset them. I don’t mind upsetting them, because it is my job to protect you.”

eddie closes the truck's door behind him as he makes his way to the front door. it's one of his days off and it's been a while since he's seen tommy. between christopher moving away to texas and the breakup between him and buck , he has to admit he's been less than attentive to their friendship.

hooking his sunglasses onto his shirt , he hesitates in front of the door. it's suddenly dawning on him that this isn't buck and maybe he should have called -- or even texted -- first before just showing up. eddie takes a hesitant step back from the door , a hand tugging his phone out of his back pocket to -- what? call him now , while he's standing in front his door?

but before eddie can do anything , the front door begins to open and , thinking fast , does his best to act like he's just coming up to the door now -- what a coincidence! " hey. . . ! "

well , i was going to try to get more replies done tonight -- but then the pitt happened and now i feel like i need to sit in a quiet , dark room for at least an hour to recover.

it's the end of eddie's shift and he's putting ( more like shoving ) his uniform inside his gym bag , followed by his boots. he's already showered and dressed and is simply putting the rest of his things away before calling it a night when andie sticks her head inside the locker room. he glances up from his boots still in his hands ( he's frowning slightly ; they're a little scuffed ) to look at her face , trying to judge what , exactly , she heard him say. not that he's ever said anything bad about her to begin with. if he ever has a problem with someone , he makes sure they know. " yeah? and what'd you hear? " he asks , his face giving nothing away as he places his boots on top of his uniform and zips up his bag.

" are you eavesdropping on me now? " how is buck always there? every time he turns around , looks in any direction -- there's buck. not that he hates it ( in fact , it's almost a relief to have something -- or rather someone so familiar always by your side that you feel like you're missing a part of yourself when they're gone ) but it can also make surprises a little difficult. " ...what exactly did you hear? " he asks back , neither confirming nor denying anything until he knows what his friend has heard.

you can't go wrong with a good slice of a classic pepperoni pizza , where the pepperoni's are slightly crispy and the cheese is a nice golden brown. but what eddie really enjoys is a supreme pizza - pepperoni , sausage , onions and peppers. he doesn't like black olives or mushrooms on his , though.
