whenever i read the trivia section of alistair’s wiki page and see how his inspo is xander from btvs and scifi nathan drake i internally cringe bc that’s my instinctive fight or flight response to anything joss wh*don related ... but my sister and i started rewatching btvs and within the first five mins we’re like .............. yah i guess

              as if there weren’t plenty of other things going utterly poorly,  you’d at least hope the constant traveling , combat , negotiating with incompetent fools would be enough to knock you out the moment your head touched the bed roll.  the dreams—  nightmares  ,  were basically the cherry on top.  exhaustion quickly turned to frustration as you quite literally tumble out of the makeshift tent, your step only hesitating when you eyes fall on the other. a small smile,  albeit forced, graced your features as you settled by your fellow grey warden,  out on his watch.

              “  – go ahead and get some more sleep,  i’m going to be up anyways i’ve been tossing and turning all night.  ”   your voice is rough,  yet your eyes are steady enough to believe the claim to be true. tapping lightly on the scrap leather that bound you journal together, your quick to chase away any suspicions that something may be WRONG.  “  y’know i shared a bed with my cousin for… forever,  the ground really isn’t that much worse and yet here we are.  ” 

Anyone would have thought that, by now, he would have the good sense to exercise while on watch, anything to keep himself awake as he stared at the endless expanse of moonlit foliage. Periodically pinching his hand only granted him a few seconds of alertness, and he was starting to regret turning his nose up at the assassin’s offer of an unknown warm beverage; a dark and 'energising’ concoction that smelled earthy and rich, tempting but no doubt poisoned.            Alistair’s dozing, heavy eyelids thankfully open, however, at the sound of a familiar greeting -- hoarse with sleeplessness. “Don’t worry.” He waves her off, suppressing a yawn. “I’ve been counting sheep backwards... but I’m not sure it’s keeping me any more awake than counting them normally.” He smiles weakly. Turning from the forest to look at her, the question of whether she’s alright -- what the cause of her tossing and turning is -- silences in his throat, Evadne digressing slightly. He laughs a little, a subdued and warm sound. “I don’t know, I suppose there’s some rustic appeal in waking up to an earwig on your pillow in the morning,” he half-jokes from experience. “You could always name a bed bug after your cousin, they might be quite flattered.”

since it’s sunday ... first night with alistair isn’t honestly mind-blowing.. he gets flustered and needs a fair amount of assurance / communication / direction.. but beleaf me when i say: in the future there is a chromatica ii / 911 transition Moment

The treck from Redcliffe to Denerim had been their longest yet, Alistair frequently peering at the map to ensure they were touring the correct route, only passing the occasional inn or exchanging brief greetings with cart-dragging refugees fleeing the south. There was rare time for diversion and exploration, the party only able to rest their journey-sore feet  after setting up camp. The road ahead was long, but after all they’d endured; the scourge of undead pouring through Redcliffe and the chaos barely contained in the Circle, a hiking trip was a welcome respite -- stabilising, much like recovering from a state of unrest and inhaling a long, replenishing breath. And just knowing what they were doing, seeking this Brother Genitivi to save the arl, Alistair was generally perky with optimism, only complaining about the ache in his heels twice during the past few hours.           This didn’t hold true for everyone, however, and it is only when Alys calls for a break that he notices the slightly drawn look to her face. She had been quiet, moreso than usual. Now that he makes the effort to remember, any conversation the two had shared today was minimal and stagnant. 

          “Not much sleep, then?” he replies, his wordless assent being automatically gravitating to her side, staying here as she asked. Situated under the rustling canopy of a tree, he absent-mindedly cranes his head up to the sky -- glaring back at him in a typical shade of Fereldan white. Dreary and pale, but not quite ominously grey enough for rain yet. “I once knew a storyteller -- back in Redcliffe -- when I was... eight? Or maybe nine,” he muses, “Anyway, she told me that during the day, even when the sun’s out, the stars never actually stop shining... we just can’t see them.” His gaze falls back down to earth, his boot toeing a small rock. “Come to think of it, it was probably some heavy-handed metaphor. There’s always a constant somewhere, always a light in the dark, just a question of where and when to find it...” He shrugs. “Still, I find the thought reassuring... even if it is silly.”

i know what you’re all thinking and yes you’re all right .... i am thinking about the warden wielding alistair’s sword for the laughs then playfully / flirtaciously holding the point of the blade to his chest or neck .. only for him to call their bluff and just gently grasp the blade 😌

alistair is a simp yes but also a tease ... sometimes if his partner leans to kiss him and stops halfway he will reciprocate just enough so they are Barely Kissing and just smirk, watching them and waiting for them to close the miniscule gap .. an evil man!!!

“Who said that?” Alistair squints, his narrowed gaze accusatory as he makes a show of searching for the source of the remark; anywhere above Rose’s head that was. Ordinarily, he would yield to her grasp on his chainmail -- an innocent but no less insistent request, wasting no time in craning his neck down to trace his lips over hers. Now, however, when he finally looks down, his eyes gleam with impishness. “Oh, I didn’t see you all the way down there. Funny how that keeps happening.” He grins, a lop-sided smile that was equal parts mischievious and lovestruck. Although, the charade doesn’t last for long, the impossibly soft non-pressure of her lips still leaving a ticklish sensation on his cheek, compelling him to wrap one arm around her waist and the other around the backs of her thighs -- lifting her up so their roles in height were reversed.            “If I’m too tall then I guess it means I’ll have to carry you everywhere,” he concludes, as if nothing can be done about it, unable to even performatively roll his eyes. Instead, his gaze trails from hers suspended above him, roaming down over the freckled curve of her nose, the concaves of her cupid’s bow until finally settling on her lips; their colouring a dusky pink that had only been matched by the early morning horizon. “You know well by now that just one kiss is never enough, right?” True to his word, he stretches his neck up for once, firmly pressing his lips upon hers -- sated but somehow still hungry.           How many more kisses it would take to be enough was unknown to both he and Rose, but if the distance between the couple and their companions was any indication, he could kiss her at least a hundred times more before even thinking of setting her back down on her feet.

“What... you mean the rabbit casserole?” he guesses, also unsure of whether the dish he threw together a few nights ago did actually constitute as a casserole of any kind. As far as he was aware, the necessities of meat, potato and vegetables were vaguely fulfilled; any nuance of timing and seasoning lost to him. This, he knows -- not that he would admit to his culinary ineptitude quite yet. “As I said before, us Fereldans aren’t so frilly with our food. Are you sure your palette isn’t too refined -- that you Orlesians don’t just overdo everything? It’s not as if we can just stumble across bushels of garlic and singing silverware and... and...” He didn’t even know if garlic grew in bushels, nor could he list another ingredient to enrichen their party’s dining experience.            Alistair looks away from Leliana, staring at the pot of dull beige bubbling over the fire in front of them -- his lips thinning into a firm line. Sighing, his shoulders deflate. “Is it unsalvageable? Am I cursing our party with indigestion yet again? Or can this be saved?”

Adapting him for Skyrim would be painless because fantasy genre... of course, the lore is different and respecting those differences is where my knowledge fails me!!! I imagine he would be a companion who can carry all the dragonborn’s cabbages, the most likely faction he would be a part of would be the Companions themselves or Dawnguard. Buuuuuut I prefer the idea of adapting the Grey Wardens to the Elder Scrolls universe, even if the potential for werewolf Alistair is Rather Sexy.           As far as I’m aware there’s no monarchy ?? As much as there is an empire... so I don’t know whomst exactly in title he would be the prodigal prince son of...

As for World of Darkness... you know my default is Vampire the Masquerade, and I’m much more familiar with VTM than I am Beast the Dreaming, Hunter the Whatever or Werewolf the Apocalypse. Although I feel Beast would lend itself to some neat symmetry with how the Dragon Age universe handles the Fade, no matter how much more sense that might make, my mind automatically boomerangs back to mall goth leeches...which Thinking About It and considering the Joining...           My instinctive clan choice for him would be Brujah, especially since Ferelden is founded on rebellion and he himself dissents against being crowned, meaning adapting him to the Dark Ages in WOD terms. MAYBE instead of repeating the whole Arthurian ‘lost prince’ narrative, there’s more focus on how it’s unknown to himself and many others that he’s Brujah since he was made to believe he’s one of the Low Clans (Gangrel probs) until discovering the Truth. Final Nights wise, A Chad Goth undoubtedly ... maybe the Grey Wardens were a ‘mythical’ order who upheld the Masquerade protecting kine and kindred alike from the Sabbat, presumed to fall into obsolescence but still functioning in secrecy.

This is probably because I watched I Know What You Did Last Summer recently, but he would definitely be the Final Girl’s Boyfriend / Ex-Boyfriend / Crush who’s far more concerned about their relationship status than a killer sending them death threats / picking friendship circle off one by one... lending to a Final Duo like in the NOES remake. But I’d like to think Alistair would have the good sense NOT to kiss the Final Girl in Freddy’s mancave. He grabs an antique sword to defend himself and Freddy taunts about how he’s compensating and going to die a virgin :(

For those who don’t know, Sophia is my Surana..

Alistair: I heard you last night -- when you were on watch. Singing. Sophia: Oh? Are you sure you weren’t dreaming? Alistair: If I was dreaming you would be singing to me ... so no, I was definitely awake. Sophia: [Laughs] Very suave. You must remember how it goes, then. Alistair: Only the melody. Something like [low humming]. Is it a lullaby? Sophia: Actually, it’s a dirge! Alistair: The way you say that... it’s like when Leliana finds a pretty pair of shoes. You can be very... eerie sometimes. Sophia: So you won’t want me serenading you later, I take it. Alistair: Well, I didn’t say that exactly.

Alistair: Wynne tells me you were somewhat of a teacher’s pet. Sophia: Oh, please. You’re scarcely given a chance to deviate from what’s expected of you... if I didn’t invest all my effort into studying then I’d be crawling up the walls and shrieking in dead tongues. Alistair: And you never tried to run away? Sophia: No. [Whispering] But I did set a tapestry on fire once. Don’t tell Wynne.  Alistair: [Chuckles] Your secret’s safe with me.
